I’m the co-owner of Falcon Car Rental, a luxury and exotic car rental company in Beverly Hills.

What challenge were you trying to address with IndiaNIC?
We needed a redesign for our website, which we wanted to migrate it to a WordPress site, as well as help in developing a mobile app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
In addition to completely handling the migration to a WordPress site, IndiaNIC has made several modifications to our existing site. For example, a third party no longer manages the site and we no longer have a subdomain.
Our overall goal is to have a more modern looking and user-friendly site that integrates easily with a mobile app. Additionally, they are developing said mobile app—available on iOS and Android devices—which we are hoping to launch within the next 60 days.

I’ve worked with many different team members, including members of their sales team. The owner and I have met personally several times in their new LA office. From what I can tell, they are a rather large company with all of the resources we need.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Since the mobile app and new website haven’t gone live yet, we don’t have any solid metrics. However, some of the different functionalities we have modified on the current website have made it more user-friendly, such as the option for online reservations and payments.
How did IndiaNIC perform from a project management standpoint?
Recently, they’ve opened an office in LA, which has enabled us to have frequent in-person meetings about our goals. Prior to that, all of our communication was done through email, conference call, or Basecamp.
They made sure to collect a lot of information at the beginning of the project so that they could have a complete understanding of what we wanted. After deciding on the different functionality and design options they provided, we had back-and-forth communication with them on a daily basis. It helped us ensure there was minimal project creep.

It also helped that their curriculum vitae and video presentation were very much up to par.

IndiaNIC is building the app for Android and iOS devices, including unique camera features and functionalities. Users periodically take pictures of their body and then choose between the various comparison modes. The app has a tool to assure the subject maintains the same position within the frame and can interactively compile up to 20 pictures at the same time. Other features include sharing options, a social feed, a body mass index calculator, and a weight graph.
What was the team composition?
A team of about 4–5 people are working on my app, while an account manager and a project manager maintain constant communication. I’ve met all of them.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The app is in the final stages of development.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
It has been excellent. They are always available, whether on Skype, WhatsApp, Basecamp, or email. They are willing to help and clarify any doubts quickly. The dynamic is to my liking, especially since I really like to follow the development closely.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I’m impressed with their honesty and willingness to help me as a client. I never once felt they were giving less than their absolute best. We're not 100% finished, but I’m certain they're going to deliver a final product that meets my expectations. I don't know if they do this with every client, but I appreciate how they always keep me updated and give constant feedback to improve the app.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Some things were left unclear in the final proposal, but I have to be honest and say that might have been on my end. I realize that I might not have explained things very clearly, so some details were not considered when they made the proposal. AlmaMapper was an alumni database map system for students and colleges across the globe. I was the co-founder of the company. We got acquired this year and merged into another company which led me to leave my role as a CEO.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with IndiaNIC?
We created mobile apps in order for universities to connect with their prospective, current, and past students. The app and the web platform had modules, including campus, library, and events catering to different segments of university activities. We needed web and app design support.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We started with a UX/UI [user experience/user interface] imagination for the web platform. It took about four weeks and they did a great job, which led us to seek their help for a two-month Android app development project. They did the entire app and we did the APIs. All the business analysis and visualization was done by them. They also gave us free web designers who developed our mobile screens.
What is the team dynamic?
We had a team of three designers who worked with us, as well as two developers and one project manager.
How did you come to work with IndiaNIC?
We searched for quite a while until we found them. They were willing to go out of the way to meet deadlines and we were working on a very tight schedule. We wanted the app to be developed in two months, even though there were 72 screens that needed to be developed. They said they would do it and they did.

We did three projects with them. One was web design, the second was mobile app design and development for Android, and the third one, which was much later, was for iOS. How did IndiaNIC perform from a project management standpoint?
My team really enjoyed working with them and they became an extended part of our team. We used Pivotal Tracker for the project management. They gave us a daily update on what developments had happened that day, and we had a weekly call for a larger update. Every week we would have a new build to test.
They were really proactive and really understood us as a customer. I never heard them complain about putting in the extra hours or working on weekends which was what the project demanded. The way they coordinated with our team was immaculate. Costs can escalate with shortened timelines, but it didn’t happen with them. They were pretty much spot on.
What did you find most impressive about them?
We had worked with three vendors before. Since the platform is really vast, none of them could really get it spot on and we wasted a lot of money. When IndiaNIC came onboard we were apprehensive initially, but every week they delivered quality which surprised us. They are an exceptional team; I would say among the top in India.
They did a really excellent job with our product, and we are really happy with the work that they put in. They have a great sense of design due to their work with gaming and virtual reality. Understanding your thought process with regard to design is very intangible, but they came up with something really cool. We weren’t expecting that.
Are there any areas they could improve?
When my team was working with them, we started documenting a bit late. Their code was really cool and readable but their documentation could have been improved.
Do you have any advice for potential clients?
They are not going to charge you upfront. You can always talk to them, and if you don’t think it’s going the right way then you can look elsewhere. For me, my first interaction was the game changer. They immediately picked up on what we wanted to do and how quickly we wanted to do it.

I’m the president of SmithCOR, which started as a holding company in 2003 for various business opportunities. Shortly thereafter, the organization began providing services for companies that needed process improvements. We’ve engaged over 700 companies, allowing them to refine their businesses operations. BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the CEO of Karvsoft. We have a product called eatoutwith.me, which is a mobile app ordering and promotional platform for restaurants, bars, and hospitality and other places like bowling alleys, movie theatres, and stadiums.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with IndiaNIC Infotech Limited?
We needed help with programming and developing our mobile app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Our app just went live for Android and iOS. It’s a three-sided platform for a large industry. The user side is phone-based, and the receiving side happens on a tablet in the restaurant or bar.
We built some new things because we needed some real-time communications but had no examples. They still provide updates and bug fixes. Working with them has been great, so we decided to offer a white-label solution. We can take our engine and rescan items using our platform. Anybody can sign up for the service. If they want to include their branding, they send a request so that we can rescan the white-label product and use our components. We just started offering that service. We are looking for our first customers, but we’ve decided that it’s a pretty powerful tool. I’m in discussions with national chains and have sent some paperwork to others. We’re hoping to get our first big client.
We’re not completely done tweaking the platform. Every once in a while, we decide to change some part of the look. When we get specifications, depending on the size of the company that we’re trying to work with, we’ll add new items according to their needs.
Our product now has a real-time communication feature. You must have delivery in this industry, but nobody orders delivery from a bowling alley. By incorporating location services and real-time pickup, we wanted the ability to sell to a bowling alley, food truck, bar, nightclub, or hotel. We built a lot of things to create a large app. It’s the same engine that we used for white-labeling. That said, there really isn’t anything in the industry that we can’t do. We’re trying to keep moving forward.
Next, we’re looking at gifting features. My parents live in Alaska. When they visit their favorite restaurant every year, I want to be able to send them a bottle of wine from their favorite restaurant on that day. That type communication hasn’t been built yet.
What is the team dynamic?
Our team is located in the U.S., and IndiaNIC’s handles data integration. We did of our own design work here while IndiaNIC took care of all the programming. They also contributed development suggestions and ideas. They have a few graphic designers, which was helpful. In the beginning, we heeded their suggestions because they had a lot of experience. I got to see their facilities overseas. They have a really neat department and have developed a lot of games and virtual reality [VR] products. They’re wonderful to work with and had good suggestions.
They’re a large company, and we always had a team of at least 10 people at any phase. If I had a question, there was always somebody with a relevant background to offer suggestions. They were fantastic.
How did you come to work with IndiaNIC Infotech Limited?
I’ve worked with different developers before on 2 other apps. One of the partners in our company is of Indian descent. He was visiting his family and followed-up on a referral from someone that he knew. He met with several companies, but IndiaNIC stood out to us. Our partner met with them and toured their facility. Once he came back and talked with me about their setup, we did a conference call and really clicked. We liked their answers to our questions. We could tell the communication was going to work, so we selected them as our partner.
How much have you invested with them?
We’re up to about 65,000 hours.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in December 2012, and our partnership is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
As far as user feedback, both sides appreciate the product’s ease of use and speed. We use Amazon hosting services, which I’m sure helps, but design plays a big part as well. The product isn’t buggy. Both teams spent a lot of effort making sure that everything was streamlined and there wouldn’t be any crashes or bugs.
How did IndiaNIC Infotech Limited perform from a project management standpoint?
IndiaNIC’s availability was wonderful. We would get the new builds in the morning, review them, make our changes, and send our feedback. By the next morning, my requests would be implemented. We communicated regularly. They consistently delivered in a realistic, timely manner, which we hadn’t experienced before. With past developers, we never knew when items would arrive. If IndiaNIC told us something would arrive in two weeks, it’d appear in two weeks unless I specifically changed something. We talked on the phone, emailed extensively, and used Skype all the time. One of my partners is Indian, and we had quite a few Indian team members, but they all spoke English.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I appreciated being able to look at their headquarters. They had really good support with social marketing. I could reach out to them with an idea, and they could walk me through everything we needed from start to finish. Their gaming department was so interesting. I have no gaming background at all, so that was all bells and whistles to me. They’re also doing a lot of VR work. They showed us how they’re offering home remodeling or motor home building through their graphic gaming department. That was really different.
I was impressed by the comprehensiveness of their services. One of their departments, called “9AM,” focuses on handling client’s social media and advertising after a product launch. They have a little bit of everything.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I don’t remember anything that was troublesome. There’s always room for improvement, but from my personal experience, nothing stood out as frustrating to me. Sometimes, it took a few moments to grasp what was being said, but we had really good communication. Once, they told us they couldn’t recommend a certain choice. We stuck to our opinion but realized we didn’t like it either once it arrived the next day. At a few points, they directed us away from what we were thinking.
Do you have any tips for anyone who is considering using IndiaNIC Infotech Limited?
Be available to check in every day. Be specific in your communication, especially if you’re working internationally. If you need to outsource part of what you’re building, make sure your people are explaining each step.
