Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the development manager of CrossLife. It’s a software network with features and tools dedicated to CrossFit, including events and scoring. I handle the technical and software part while my brother handles the sports part. The app is complex, with many features and details. It is free, so my revenue comes from advertising.

What challenge were you trying to address with HyperSense Software?
Since we didn’t have any in-house developers, we needed someone to build an app for both iOS and Android. We wanted to provide a good product to the market, and I needed to get things done on time.

What was the scope of their involvement?
HyperSense did the design and development of the app from the beginning to the end. They are dedicated more to game applications, so their main challenge was to develop this kind of technical application. They also made a presentation website. We've worked with 4 guys from HyperSense, not including the boss.
How did you come to work with HyperSense Software?
I found HyperSense on Google. I was looking for a Romanian company and found Clutch in the process. I checked 3–4 companies and saw that HyperSense had a lot of positive reviews. I felt good when I spoke with HyperSense. They provided me with a lot of details when I reached out to them. I hadn’t seen any work that they had done similar to our app, but I hired them because they were very transparent with everything.
How much have you invested with HyperSense Software?
We've spent $30,000 on the project.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with them in November 2016, and the apps went live in June 2017. I’m still working with them because I have updates I want to make.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
The app has been live in both stores for 1 week. I was very picky with the job, and they made the app according to my wishes. We’ve had a few bugs, but the final product looks professional. I’ve had good reviews from users, who have said that the design is user-friendly. The project was a good deal based on the price I paid.
There are still things I want to improve. For example, I noticed we were having some disconnection problems from the server on Android when we launched the app. I contacted our project manager, and he didn’t hide from the issue. They faced up to their responsibilities and worked over the weekend to fix it. I told him it was important to me because I have partners and investors, and he understood that.
How did HyperSense Software perform from a project management standpoint?
They are very good. The project manager, Andre, is always on time. He provides me with a lot of information and advice on the advertising part. They’re a good team with really good workers.
Our communication with HyperSense has been perfect, and they have been really transparent. They’ve been good at meeting according to my timeframe. They’ve understood the time delay.
What did you find most impressive about HyperSense Software?
My family went to visit them for 3 days. They received us very well. The whole team was very happy to see me, and they’ve been very kind to us. Andre helped me during my visit. We even spoke about some personal topics. It was good for me to see them since it made the engagement more personal.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
DealMatrix is a recently born startup that is about a year old. It’s focused on the software as a service industry. We’re building SaaS platforms for investment management for both investors and corporate ventures.
I’m one of the co-founders and the COO of the company. Being a young startup, you can imagine that it includes a lot of areas. I was the one in charge of handling the relationship with HyperSense.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with HyperSense Software?
We are based in Vienna, Austria. We had an issue with the hourly cost of developers because in Austria the average is €90 an hour for development. I’m originally born in Romania, so we were trying to figure out the best country to find developers, and we picked Romania for that. After going through a couple of companies, HyperSense Software fit the best when it came to their background, their dynamic, and their way of working.
As opposed to other companies, HyperSense Software was very open from the beginning. They stated what they could and could not do as opposed to other past experiences. I liked their honesty very much. We were very interested in their experience on the app development side, which was the main project that we did with them.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
It was great from the beginning. HyperSense Software offered a lot of consulting on the product that we wanted to build, both on the app and on the web development side. We built a version of our app from scratch which is used for pitch events for investors or members. They're very fast, they can deliver rapid development which is very stressful, and they manage that very well for a software company. They helped us build from the beginning. They also helped us come up with some input based on their experience in the app and in this market.
From an IT point of view, they also have optimized and figured out what technologies are best suited for those specific features that we needed. Two or three months ago we also worked with them a lot on the UX [user experience] and UI [user interface]. They did a lot on the graphic side that made the UI more focused. The current app, everything from a design point of view, and so on, comes from them. We’re very happy.
We’ve received very good market feedback. It’s native Android and native iOS which also is supplemented in a web portal so we can install it from a distance.
How did you come to work with HyperSense Software?
It was a bit tedious. I went online and started searching for development companies in Romania. I scheduled a bunch of calls with all of these people. I talked to Andrei [COO, HyperSense Software] in the call and explained what we want to do. That seemed fine. The first time I was back home I had a meeting that was supposed to be a 1–2-hour meeting. The meeting went so well from the beginning, and their input was so good that the meeting turned into a project description. We started to work on the second day or third day afterward.
How much have you invested with HyperSense Software?
It was $55 an hour. I don’t have the entire value. It’s still ongoing. It’ll be done at the end of the year.
What is the status of this engagement?
The relationship is ongoing. In the future, the app is going to stay in maintenance with HyperSense Software, as far as I can see. I don’t know what’s going to happen far along because we’re a startup, so we’re expanding staff right now. It depends on how big we get, how much resources they can provide, and If they can grow at the same time when it comes to HR resources. But as I see it for the next 18 months, they’ll be with us on that.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
Thea app is not a general market app. It’s only downloaded for the event. The event organizers are pushing the app to be downloaded by the attendees, and then they wipe it out and reinstall it when there’s a new event. From that point of view, it’s a bit unusual behavior for an app in the store. We wanted to have it in the store for ease of access and downloads as opposed to enterprise deployment.
HyperSense Software's response time is in a matter of hours when it comes to bug fixing. If it’s during an event even if it’s very late hours and they’re off work, HyperSense Software is always there. At least one person is answering the phone and emails. Maximum one hour after an urgent situation happened, we get a response, a solution, and we reload the monitor. From the response point of view, they’re amazing. I wasn’t expecting that to be honest. They went the extra mile at least when it comes to us. I’m very happy with them. I have nothing negative to say.
How did HyperSense Software perform from a project management standpoint?
Everything went well. Andrei was the one in charge of their internal project management. When it comes to the IT part of project management, we used our tool for that which is JIRA. I think that’s a standard for this kind of thing. Everything went perfectly because he had access to that environment. Everything got put in place, and they were responding to issues automatically. We didn’t have to take any more calls to do the description and explanation.
If we have an issue or a feature request we put them in JIRA, they pick it up from there, and we go forward from that. Everything is fine from all I can figure. Everything got delivered on deadline and sometimes even faster. The only thing that I would have to say with them, and it’s not their fault, is that like any new startup in a new niche we had a bit of lack of communication in the beginning. This miscommunication went on until they understood what exactly the format was going to be. It was also our fault because we’re also in the initial stage as any startup. We sold a lot and didn’t have anything to show for the sales, so we had to rush things a bit at one point. That created a bit of stress for them, but they handled it very well.
What did you find most impressive about HyperSense Software?
HyperSense Software makes sure that the project is implemented even after they deliver. I always got calls two or three weeks after a project was done to make sure everything was fine. They are always willing to go the extra mile and do more work to make sure the quality is there. The one thing we liked is they never tried to increase hours. Every time I asked them how much it would take and I gave them my estimation or my CTO’s estimation on that; they always tried to say they could do it faster and not increasing rate.
Are there any areas HyperSense Software could improve?
Maybe a bit more communication would be nice when it comes to the actual code that we’re developing, but then again, I understand the situation. The management style is different. I’m a hands-on guy. I like to talk with everybody on the team continuously. But with HyperSense Software I wasn’t involved that much with the developers. It’s a difference in attitude. It’s a difference in what I was expecting. It was a decision from Andrei that it would be best if I allowed him to do the internal project management for his people and only interact with them if something is urgent or needed from my side. That would’ve been my preference, but I don’t think it would’ve impacted the result in any way in the end.

Please describe your organization.
MyBlender is a mobile application designed for consumer brand engagement. The application uses photos and videos stored on the device and a set of creative themes, and it produces a 6 or 15-second professional looking video on the phone within seconds. Simple sharing tools allow users to share those, what we call “blends”, with their social network.
It's really designed with a publishing platform in mind, for major consumer brands to engage their users at events of special promos, where the creative theme might include elements from the brand or other associated content that would be interesting for their fans or advocate consumers to share. That's what MyBlender does.
What is your position?
I'm the Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What business challenge were you trying to address with HyperSense Software?
Well, we're an early stage start-up, so we decided from the get-go that we were not going to go out and try to recruit engineering resources ourselves for this. We would look for a company who had a wide range of experience in developing mobile applications of this type. We did a fairly significant amount of due diligence.
What platforms is the app on?
It is available today in the app store. Our intent is not to make this a consumer app, although we have it published as a way to do a live beta of our application. You can download the application for free on the iOS app store as MyBlender. It's currently in development on Android and will be introduced on Android in March. One of our key criteria for the selection was that the company had to have experience on both iOS and Android, so that we weren't managing two different organizations.
SOLUTION
How did you come to work with HyperSense Software?
We hired HyperSense through what is now oDesk, but it was Elance at the time. We interviewed probably eight or nine different development companies, and we had a set of criteria that we were looking for in specific skillsets. HyperSense met those skillsets.
After that, we rated the companies and then did an interview process. We awarded HyperSense the contract to build the MyBlender app.
Could you provide a sense of the size of this initiative in financial terms?
I suspect this will be certainly a $200,000-plus investment for us.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our intent is to continue with HyperSense as our engineering resource, and as we get additional funding, that will go to allowing them to bring on additional staff that will be dedicated to us. They have a great methodology and quality control. Take away anything that they're actually building, you have to have essentially good foundations in development in order to develop an application correctly, timely and of good quality. They have that and it would take a substantial amount more to reproduce that ourselves with in-house employees. We will continue to invest in them while they continue to develop and deliver for us at the level that they are.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?
Like all start-ups, it's an interesting journey. We had a vision for what we wanted to have, and had some early successes with some major global brands. We look to further success in bringing our first application to market with one of our clients in the June timeframe.
What distinguishes HyperSense Software from other providers?
I'm not being facetious when I say that they speak English really well. I've been doing this for a long time and I've hired a lot of freelance talent over the years. One of the most important things in hiring resources, especially resources located offshore, is that they can communicate well with you as an organization. They have to be an extension of your organization.
As point number one, I can tell you that HyperSense stands out for me with their ability to communicate. They have a great command of the English language, which is a second language for these guys. They really put a strong emphasis on understanding English, both written and oral, and this not only includes the guys leading the project, but their full team as well. That’s a massive deal.
Point number two is their knowledge of iOS and Android operating systems, best practices, tricks and tips. The fact that they've been there and done that in other projects is a huge help. I have a project management background, so I built a comprehensive product marketing plan and product development plan, which we worked with them on in terms of pricing this out and delivering. Sometimes you have a vision for how something might work, and some other developers might simply go forward and develop what you said.
I think one of the key values that HyperSense brings to the table is that they, I wouldn't call it push back, more so I think the correct term would be that they're consultative. They say, "Look this is a way to do it. Here's another way to do that that might get better results, and here's the things that we think you could get from that." Having a development partner who's thinking about this from a business perspective and the technology perspective is a huge help. It's like have additional employees in that sense.
At a technical level, I think they have an innate knowledge of the libraries and technologies that are on these platforms. When one of the key criteria of our application was that it had to have really good performance and had to leverage the Open GL graphics library of the platform to get that graphics acceleration, not simply by using brute force on the CPU, which is another way to do it. They were able to get us somebody on the project who was really comfortable in Open GL and could translate the video transitions effects and filter looks that we were providing as video producers, into something that could be reproduced on the phone quickly, in a matter of seconds. I think that's another really key piece to this.
Uniformly, when we show people the application, they go, "Wow that is quick!" I think that's exactly what we wanted to do here. We know that consumers don't want to wait for anything anymore, so having a very responsive app was a key criterion.
Is there anything HyperSense Software could have improved or done differently?
Not really. I really try to be objective in these kinds of interviews, and whenever there is an opportunity for improvement, I'm usually the first one to say it. I have to tell you that my experience, and as I said, I've been doing this longer than I care to remember in terms of hiring both teams that reported to me at very big organizations like Microsoft and Sun Micro Systems on the engineering side, and then separately having both start-up engineering organizations that reported to me and contract folks reporting to me. I don't think, in all of my career, I've had as good an experience of dealing with product management and engineering resource folks as I have with HyperSense.
My only reservation, if anything, is that I don't want people to seek HyperSense because they may get too busy and can't focus on my project. That's always the downside of this. It's like telling your friends about a great radio station, sooner or later everybody's listening to it, and then the ads make it impossible to listen to anymore. I think we're absolutely committed to a future with HyperSense, and unequivocally recommend them for anybody who's thinking about an application that's pretty advanced, which ours definite is; it's not a run of the mill app.

We got a lot of responses and narrowed it down based on cost estimate, delivery capacity, skill set, and portfolio. We contacted around 10 firms. We had one-on-one Skype meetings with the final three or four. Based on those interviews, we chose HyperSense Software.
When was the work completed?
The project started a year and a half ago, and it’s still ongoing.

Is there anything unique or special about HyperSense Software that really makes them stand out compared to other business partners?
What was unique initially was their availability for communication. It’s hard to find an offshore team that shares a common language, and have them always be available for meetings on a different time zone. They were super open and would work with us. The level of ownership they took on with the project was incredible. I never felt like they viewed the project as just a paycheck. I felt they cared about the quality and decisions made.
Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?
Overall, we were pleased by everything especially in comparison to many other development companies we worked with. HyperSense Software did an above-average job. I would say one suggestion is to integrate a higher-level quality control internally. They never had an integrated QA [quality assurance] team as part of their staff. That was something that was a challenge for us because we didn’t have staff to help maintain code quality.

Andre [Stanciu, developer at HyperSense Software,] spent extra time with other people in the team teaching them and making sure that everything was done right without not adding to the cost of the project. The HyperSense team is really open to learn new things and do research at no extra cost. Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?

Please describe your organization. What is your role and responsibilities?
I’m a software developer at SRVR, the leader in international telecommunications. We provide software for other telecommunications companies. Because our software is used by many companies, we sell under many brands.

What was your goal for working with HyperSense Software?
We needed help with a mobile application for iPhone and Android operating systems. The concept of the app is that our customers should be able to download our app and login using their account with us. Once they are logged in, our app allows them to use our services on the Internet or the phone.

Please describe the scope of their work.
After we originally approached them, we started slowly. We wanted to make sure that this partnership, and this project was right for our company. It was, so after two months of working together, we decided to launch the full project.
What was your process for selecting HyperSense Software with which to work?
We tried to keep the project within our internal team because we are developers, but we didn’t have a developer that could do this kind of mobile app project. I wasn’t in charge of this project from the beginning, so I don’t know how my predecessor selected them.
Can you give a sense of the size of the initiative in dollar terms or a personnel work-hour figure?
The size of both project combines was in the $30,000 to $50,000 range.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Is there anything unique or special about HyperSense Software that really makes them stand out compared to other business partners?
HyperSense accomplished more than we had expected them to. HyperSense provided my team with specific knowledge about smartphone application and guidance throughout the whole process. Partnering with HyperSense was a learning experience for us. Now, we have a lot of knowledge and expertise about the mobile app industry and technology that we wouldn’t have had we partner with other developers. It is a very beneficial partnership for us.
Looking back on the work so far, is there any area that you think they could improve upon or that you might do differently?
We were working from different time zones, which occasionally led to some delays in communication. However, the work itself was great.

The platform will serve as a central repository for hotel-specific information, such as room counts, occupancy rates, pricing, and revenue. It aims to enable users, particularly hotel managers and market strategists, to gain insights into market trends and performance metrics.

The project delivered a clear path of tasks and actioned to be taken in order to have a fully working MVP, ready to be delivered to the market.

I would mention that their team always ensured everything was delivered in agreed time and they always checked with me if there are any questions from my side.

Culture. The second very important aspect for me is that people follow with action on what they are advertising and this is the case with HyperSense and this is the reason for me writing this down.

I do not work in the software building industry and I am not able to fully evaluate their technical skills but from an business point of view and culture and genuine desire to find solutions to the client problems I believe they are doing a wonderful job.

We partnered with HyperSense to create ChatQBO, an innovative software solution that seamlessly integrates with QuickBooks Online and leverages the capabilities of OpenAI's Chat GPT technology. The primary deliverable is the ChatQBO platform itself.
To bring this vision to life, HyperSense Software thoughtfully assembled a diverse development team consisting of 7 specialists, each highly proficient in their respective fields, encompassing UX design, backend, frontend, mobile development, and quality assurance (QA).
To ensure the platform's reliability, security, and high-performance capabilities, we established a robust and scalable AWS infrastructure. Additionally, we have an upcoming mobile app in the works, developed using Flutter, which is poised to enhance accessibility and usability for mobile users.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
While it's still early in our project's lifecycle, especially given its niche nature, we are very pleased with the ongoing work and progress. At this stage, it's challenging to provide validated metrics for performance. In terms of ongoing work, our collaboration with HyperSense Software has been highly productive, and we are confident that as the project matures, we will be able to provide more concrete metrics to demonstrate progress and success.

HyperSense employs an Agile project management approach that promotes flexibility and encourages regular meetings, ensuring ongoing collaboration and information sharing. They have consistently met project deadlines and, on occasion, delivered ahead of schedule, demonstrating their dedication to project success. Laur, our Project Owner, has been a valuable asset to our team. Laur's responsiveness and deep understanding of our project details have greatly contributed to our project's progress.

This team has an unwavering commitment to not just meeting but exceeding client expectations. While many software development teams deliver on their promises, this team consistently goes the extra mile to truly understand the client's unique needs and objectives. Are there any areas for improvement or something HyperSense Software Inc could have done differently?
I would appreciate having more in-person meetings; however, due to our hybrid work model, it's challenging to have all project members present at their Chicago office simultaneously. Apart from this consideration, I currently do not have any other improvement suggestions.
