Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

We were looking for an electronics expert who could reverse engineer a meter for electromagnetic field measurements as a basis for a custom sensor for avian use. The available meters did not fulfill our requirements, but could be used as basis for further development. 

Also, we wanted to develop an electro-tactile actuator as an alterantive to a buzzer.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The reverse engineering was successfully done very quickly. We had tried this with a several other companies and freelancers before, but without success. They typcially tried to re-invent the wheel, and typically searched for existing digital HW components to solve the problem. In reality, our issue was one that needed analogue fundamentals at least at the decisive stage: capturing electromegnetic fields, which are analogue, is an analogue problem. HK Electrical Engineering Service was the only vendor immediately grasping this fundamental concept, and did not hesitate to learn from the analogue stage of a digital device, to derive an analogue solution for us. This was aided by strong fundamental electrical engineering capabilities. Too many others had forgotten about those basics, and were exclusively specializing in "higher level" digital applications. 

A sensor prototype was developed which replicated reliably the performance of the commercial handheld meters, and a great deal was learnt that way, which included field testing on both ends.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

The vendor showed great commitment to the task. The reverse engineering was achieved very quickly. We then faced a number of unexpected field trial results which did not seem to match. That is natural and part of such a project, and it took some time and patience to work them out. The vendor was always willing to go the extra mile to iron out the issues.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They were open to true co-development. Many other vendors would try to sell a "black box", and often could not prove that they would really understand what it takes to make it work. Htronik was very open to discussing ideas and explaining their thought process, and thus client and vendor could benefit mutually from work done on both ends. It gave me as client a much better understanding of my own product, and the the confidence to know where the product road map should lead next. 

Are there any areas for improvement or something Htronik could have done differently?

For the second module, the electro-tactile actuator, we had to contact outside vendors for certain hard-to-find or custom components. It turned out to be better for us as clients to deal with suppliers e.g. from Taiwan.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We were talking about design work from the ground up, so they did foundational work. The main measurable outcome was the successful completion of foundational designs ready for manufacturing or further development.

How did Htronik perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated via virtual meetings. They delivered on time.

What did you find most impressive or unique about them?

Htronik always took the time to properly scope projects with us and stayed engaged through each design iteration. They knew when to go deep, providing detailed visibility on the issues that mattered most to our team, while taking ownership of the less critical technical design decisions so we didn't have to. When needed, they could move fast.

Htronik balanced thoroughness with efficiency. They gave us detail where it counted, handled the rest independently, and could pick up the pace when the situation called for it.

We needed help designing and implementing a processing module that worked alongside other designed components.

Htronik has worked alongside our development team to design and implement a processing module. The team has designed the physical design and architecture of the processing unit and its data communications with our data ecosystem.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in April 2024, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Htronik has maintained constant communication with our internal team, where they meet and share deliverables. The team has also tracked milestones with great communication about any blockers or concerns as the project progresses. Htronik has done a great job keeping the rest of the team in the loop.

How did Htronik perform from a project management standpoint?

Htronik has worked very diligently with multiple teams across our company infrastructure and has been able and willing to jump into any meeting at any time to assist with any blockers the team has run into. The team has proven to be excellent project managers within their scope and contributions to the team. We primarily communicate through virtual meetings, emails, and messaging apps.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're impressed with Htronik's continued loyalty and vision for the product, its stability, and its infrastructure prove that they will remain a valued member of the team and contribute to many more projects to come. We highly recommend them.
