Generally speaking, the team did excellent, particularly as we are very finnicky clients. They quickly jumped on calls with us to work out problems and did not complain with frequent adjustments based on our decisions.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We've had positive reviews from the special project we've had HPPY work on. The team has built a special website around our annual conference, and we've received positive feedback on the new website's look and feel.

How did HPPY perform from a project management standpoint?

HPPY stays on budget and meets deadlines. They're speedy; Lucas usually responds to emails within 10 minutes. The team handles our edits promptly and does our development projects quickly.

HPPY has introduced us to a ticket submission system where we can submit edits to the website, telling them which pages need copy edits. We primarily communicate via email, but occasionally use Google Meet.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We're impressed with HPPY's speed and agility. They're very agile and have recently completed a straightforward project.

We've also hired them to embed videos on our website. Although this project was supposed to take a week, it took much longer because we had so many edits back and forth. There have been some delays in the project, but that's primarily due to bottlenecks on the client side and our side, which are not related to HPPY.

Are there any areas they could improve?

HPPY could benefit from packaging web development and maintenance in a more comprehensive package. The maintenance component we pay for is mostly for edits, but it often becomes an additional cost if we want additional development. We could use more transparency around what comes with the maintenance package.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Having a comprehensive kickoff is helpful. HPPY is very responsive, and their ticketing system is highly beneficial; however, holding a proper kickoff meeting with the team to ensure they understand the project's scope, like we did initially, is the best practice.

Anyone looking to work with them should know HPPY is agile and fast and will get you precisely what you need, but you have to strategically guide the relationship to maximize what they can provide.

What challenge were you trying to address with HppyHour Digital?

We’re well known in Canada, but we’re trying to expand our presence in the US. We felt that our current website wasn’t properly conveying what we did and wasn’t properly set up from a technical standpoint. Thus, we decided it was time for a fresh overhaul of our website.

Our existing website was a fully customized HTML and CSS website, but we wanted it to be based on a CMS system, so we hired HppyHour to build a brand new website for us from the ground up.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

HppyHour has been helping us create a completely new website on Webflow. They’ve been in charge of the whole process, including its design, development, and content creation. As for the content, they write all of it, and we’re in charge of editing it. Additionally, they’ve created animations for the website.

What is the team composition?

We’ve mainly worked with Brice (Lead Web Designer) and Kitty (Head of Design) joined our initial conversations to go through the UX.

How did you come to work with HppyHour Digital?

I went online to research companies, looking at their reviews and some of their past work. Then, I shortlisted and reached out to 5–6 different companies, including HppyHour. Most of them came back with a proposal and a quote, and our team went through those proposals. HppyHour’s proposal and portfolio stood out from the rest.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent between $20,000–$25,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in December 2021, and our engagement is ongoing. Our project should be fully wrapped up before June 2022.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Given that we haven’t launched the website yet, I don’t have any metrics to share. However, we’ve been seeing the project updates every week, and HppyHour’s designs look great. They’re doing a great job with the site’s visual esthetics, as well as with the written content.

How did HppyHour Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

HppyHour’s performance has been good. They’ve stayed on track with the pace they said they would follow, and we haven’t had any issues so far.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of HppyHour’s work distinguishes them from other providers. From an aesthetic standpoint, their designs and previous projects look a lot more solid than others; they have strong graphic design skills. Additionally, they have a lot of skill sets built into their company, which makes them capable of doing designs, animations, and copywriting work. This aspect makes them a one-stop-shop.

Are there any areas they could improve?

At the beginning of the project, HppyHour did a great job outlining the different milestones on a visual timeline where we could see everything needed to complete the project. It would be great if they used that visual element throughout the project, showing us where we are in that timeline during every meeting. Still, they’re great at verbally conveying every week’s goals, but using visual elements would be helpful.

In addition to that, as I mentioned, Kitty was involved in the initial meetings. However, she suddenly dropped off the project, which wasn’t a problem because she wasn’t as involved as Brice at that point. Still, it would be great if they offered better communication regarding their onboarding process, explaining everyone’s role and letting us know when team members may drop off. 

Finally, it would be great if the content creation process were more collaborative. We usually discuss the content, but they then come back with a document presenting what they’ve written. More detailed discussions before we receive the draft would be helpful.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I recommend working with them; they’re very tolerant and talented. Having a keen eye for design to look into your website is helpful. I have an in-house design team, and I have a background in design myself, and we’ve been able to pick up on things that developers haven’t.

As a new company, we were looking for a partner to help us create our website (design, development, support and maintenance). When searching for a vendor, we looked for creative minds who wanted to partner with us, not just in the present, but also as we grow in the coming years – a true partner.

We started the web development project with a discovery session of our goals, from our brand to the user experience we want. Hppy Hour Digital’s workshop was extremely useful in creating a visual perspective of our needs.

From proposed concepts, wireframes to design mockups, the process was iterative, with open feedback and enthusiastic collaboration from both sides. Given the project’s short runway, we divided and conquered – they designed and suggested imagery while we provided the copy. HPPY Hour Digital “hero heading” suggestions helped lift our pages.

The initial engagement was 8 weeks. However, we continue to work with HPPY Hour Digital as we grow our website and other digital needs.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

In the first month, we had just over 1000 hits on the English website and the average engagement time was about one and a half minutes — the engagement itself was more than 11,000, so there were a lot of clicks throughout the site.

How did Hppy Hour Digital perform from a project management standpoint?

We met for an hour each week at the beginning of our partnership, which evolved into weekly half-hour meetings with the developer and myself to show the progress. Executives were involved in all workshops, reviews and sign off.

It was really easy to work with them because of our mutual knowledge and experience, and they were very responsive throughout the duration of the partnership.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They exceeded expectations while never over-promising and were very knowledgeable. The entire team was always enthusiastic and ready for challenges.

The developer in particular was incredibly creative in applying solutions to our business case.

Are there any areas they could improve?

An outline of the pros and cons (e.g. a PDF doc) of the various hosting services would be useful for those new to building websites and unfamiliar with SEO.

Know what your end goal is and be realistic about your budget. The clearer you are about your goals and end product, the easier the process.

Hppy Hour Digital connected with us weekly. We had the ability to connect through Slack with them. For every piece of feedback we gave, they either had an answer or tried to find it. It was much more of a partner approach, which I enjoyed.

I thought it was great. For our own clients, we have project managers. When I’m hiring them, I focus on what Hppy Hour Digital does as well.

They have strong communication, flexibility, and project planning. If there’s ever an issue, they come back pretty quickly. The project manager understood how everything related back to our vision. That was a breath of fresh air.

We never had to go back and tell them our vision and story. Hppy Hour Digital was an extension of us. It’s always nice when someone understands your business.

You have to embrace the fact that communication is important. Some clients want a hand-offs approach, but I think communication is very important. If you miss out on something, it could delay a project pretty significantly. Make sure you are understanding what the communication looks like and be willing to adhere to it.
