The scope of this endeavor was quite extensive, encompassing not only the technical migration but also its publication on respective app stores. In summary, the initial mobile application built on Xamarin.Forms was a mid-size app that presented a few challenges, such as integrations with device camera, NFC reader, and geolocation features. Additionally, one of the most critical aspects of this project was the complete redesign of UI/UX for five specific user flows within the application.
Key deliverables:

• Comprehensive technical documentation outlining the migration process and the architecture of the new solution, providing us with valuable insights into the changes made.
• Complete source code of the new .NET MAUI solution, which allowed us to maintain full control and flexibility over our application's future development.
• Low and high-fidelity prototypes for the redesigned views. These prototypes served as a visual roadmap, helping us to better understand and visualize the improved UI/UX before implementation.

A standout achievement of this partnership was Horus' timely delivery. Despite the migration's challenges, they executed with precision, enabling us to fulfill the tight client-set deadlines and release to the stores on time. Their expertise and proactive approach not only ensured a seamless migration but also enhanced the application's robustness and user-friendliness.

We jointly opted for a sprint-based approach, working in two-week cycles. Each sprint began with detailed planning sessions to outline the features and views to migrate. At the end of each sprint, we scheduled brief progress demos and made the app available for testing on TestFlight and Google Play Closed Testing.
Throughout our collaboration, Horus showed a keen understanding of both our needs and those of our client. While the project scope remained fairly consistent, they remained open to considering any potential adjustments that came up.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

My collaboration with Horus for our mobile app migration from legacy to a modern stack, was excellent in both technical and non-technical aspects. However, two distinct factors set them apart: First, Horus consistently maintained excellent communication throughout the project.
From our initial meeting to every subsequent interaction, our exchanges were marked by clarity and efficiency, demonstrating their commitment. Additionally, they used an 'out of the box' template that allowed them to migrate several views to .NET MAUI on the first sprint, delivering tangible progress from the project's outset.

At the beginning of the project, we encountered some minor difficulties in configuring users due to the need to use a client repository. Although these minor setbacks did not have a significant impact on the project's execution or the planned schedule, we could have avoided these obstacles with a more streamlined and efficient initial setup.

We were able to successfully launch the new native IOS and Android apps within 3 months.

We were able to move quickly with weekly check-ins supplemented with slack conversations for immediate feedback as needed. It was very fluid and adapted well to our learning and changing priorities.

I appreciated working with a small team that was clearly invested in their work and our product. Everyone was professional and seemed to enjoy their work. It was a great experience.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I was happy with this experience and would use them again to get a new app off the ground. Some more complicated issues required a bit more back and forth that could probably be resolved faster with improved communication.

My name is Analia Escalada, I’m the founder of Lookea, a startup launched in March, 2019. The company’s main goal is to connect brands, influencers and customers in order to improve the online shopping experience. We do so by providing our users with a platform where they can share their outlooks and tag brands, creating a buzz that boosts the aforementioned brands’ online traffic.

Lookae is a fashion startup and since its foundation over a year ago, we've been working on the implementation of an effective business model. We’ve also been focusing on the platform’s design. I contacted Hours for the app’s front and back end development. Our team was just getting started with the software design and development when we decided to welcome Horus to the team.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to build an intuitive platform that was easy to use and provided an optimal online shopping experience. It was essential for us to first create an MVP in order to validate if there were users interested in sharing their looks, brands motivated to get onboard and clients willing to get inspired and shop using the platform.

Also, we wanted to validate our business model, especially regarding the revenue strategy--our goal was to understand how much fashion brands would be willing to invest to take part in our solution.

With our first investment round we assembled a team to develop the app. However, due to the pandemic we faced some delays on the development, which led me to look for new developers. That’s how I reached out to Horus, that soon brought together a dedicated team that not only moved forward with the app’s development, but also provided us with technical and moral support.

Once we selected them as our development partner, we had a series of discovery meetings to discuss our goals and expectations. We dedicated the project’s first weeks to study the business model and define our revenue strategy. Little by little we evolved the initial idea and finally set a revenue model that suited the brands we envisioned working with.

At the same time, we worked on the mobile app design, validating each idea on the go. Nowadays we’re in the MVP definition phase and soon we expect to validate it in the market.

Initially, we were assigned a project manager to support us and serve as the main point of contact throughout the project. Soon, when we decided to get the design started in order to validate it with our clients as soon as possible, a UI/UX designer joined the team. We’ve been working with this designer since then, in sync with the rest of our team and always prioritizing our clients requirements.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The prototype was built from scratch in one month. As soon as we presented it to the brands, all of them showed interest and asked us when it would be launched and how much they could invest in it. It was a very positive feedback and these brands are now waiting for more information. Our goal now is to develop the MVP in order to get more insights from the market.

Since our first touchpoint I felt I was relying on a team that was willing to find the best solutions to all of the limitations we’ve faced. Some of our meetings were scheduled beforehand, as frequent checkpoints, but we also got together anytime we felt the need to discuss something.

On the other hand, the design process was iterative and followed our clients’ requirements in order to find the best version of our product.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I was blown away by this partner's knowledge of mobile app development, user experience, and optimization. We learned much more than we thought possible, and we appreciated their patience and thoughtfulness while we came up to speed. The team met every single expectation I had. For this project we had to deliver two different applications on very specific and strict deadline. They had to be up and running on every marketplaces.

Two applications. The first one was an android application that integrated the RFID technology. And for the second one we had to create a social feed for Android and iOS.

Describe the project in detail.

This project was for a traveling agency that specializes in student traveling groups. We created an application that helped them monitor and organize all the students traveling within their groups. This application was created to cover two very important needs.

One was to keep track of the students and the activities they attend to and the other one was to have fast access to the student medical history. The bracelets are assigned to each student, with the information previously loaded in their profile. This way the can keep track of all the activities and the student attender and the ones they did not. Moreover, if the student is feeling under the weather or has been involved in any kind of accident, by reading their bracelet the doctor gets immediate access to the student’s medical information.

How does it work? The application keeps a list of students, their information and the groups they belong to. They can have the passengers information with only a bracelet scan! At the end of the day the leaders will know who went to the activities and who skipped them. Gathering all this information they will able to validate the performance of each day, and the trip.

On the other side, the parents fill in a form with sensitive medical and personal information that is saved in to the system. ( this information can only be seen by doctors if need be).

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

This Year the company manage four travels already. Each one with 650 passengers with their medical history and activities. The social feed application gave their parents the ability to see how their children’s trip was going on, and the outcome of the activities that they were involved in.

The RFID application successfully gave the group leaders the availability to keep track of the students and the activities they attend to. It also gave to the doctors the availability to see a student medical history in case when it was necessary, by only reading the RFID.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We work as one team using scrum methodologies. We had daily meeting to see the progress every day, and stay on the same page. Once a week we had meetings with the client to discuss the progress and to make sure we were meeting every deadline and expectations. They help us to prioritize tasks to be sure that we were on time, including any changes or new needs.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are passionate about their work and knowledgeable about mobile development. We didn't need to get involve in any aspect of mobile development because they did everything, and they did it extremely well. This gave as more time to work on other things.

What we think could be interesting, is for them to share some of their mobile knowledge . so if need be we could give them a hand.

We need an android app that hosts our own web app, in this case a mobile pont of sale of bus tickets. This Android App must access the geolocation, the integrated printer and the NFC reader, and interact with the web app.

Previously, we have worked on other projects, with some of the members of Horus, and we know very well their quality of development and commitment to the projects.

We had some meetings, in which we discussed the solution approach. Two weeks later, Horus developed and delivered an Android application with test cases to integrate and evaluate the solution. The App developed, use the SDK of the Android device to interact with their integrated devices. We validate them and continued with our own develpment, meantime Horus integrated the remainings devices.

The mobile application of our company was created more than 5 years ago and since then it had pending adjustments to make. This generated some difficulty in the use and user experience. For this very reason, we decided to invest in improvements to the app. We don't have in-house engineers, so we needed to outsource all of the redesign and rebuild.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

My team searched online for app developers in our area and compiled a top 5 list based on the case studies on their websites. We contacted each company and narrowed it down to 2 after receiving their initial submissions. It was a tough decision, but we selected this vendor based on the quality of their final proposal, their willingness to train our team on how to interact with the app after launch, and their price, which we feel is very fair.

Once this provider was selected, I had a series of meetings to discuss adjustments and goals. In the following first weeks I received some mock-ups of the design with the requested adjustments. After approval, the changes were made and we were given the option to test the app to validate the changes generated. Once the changes have been validated, they are put into production in the store so that the app will be available for download.

Initially, we were assigned a project manager to support us and serve as the main point of contact throughout the project. I only spoke to our project manager, but learned that there were 2 frontend developers and 2 backend developers, as well as a QA resource working behind the scenes.

After generating the requested changes and putting them into production, we received great customer satisfaction regarding the modified app.

The project manager assigned to us was easy to communicate with and provided us with frequent updates. We connect by phone at least once a week and use Slack for all other communication. Overall, I was impressed with the availability and speed.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I was amazed at the knowledge this provider had about mobile app development, UX, and optimization. The team far exceeded my expectations, they are a team of professionals who are highly committed to the project and contribute substantial improvements to its development. I will definitely hire this company again for any mobile application needs we have in the future.

We first met with a technological incubator that suggested us 3 programming companies, to have 3 budgets and we finally chose Horus. 

From the first instance, they showed interest in understanding the business, achieving a good understanding of the problems to be solved in the business. We understood that in several aspects of the proposal, they managed to add value to the project and the business model from the technical solution presented.

Once we decided for Horus and with the approved budget, we began to have meetings where we set a work plan with different objectives along a timeline to be met.

The first stage was the low-fidelity design stage, after that, the high-fidelity design stage of the app continues. Both stages were iterative. After the design stages were completed, the development of the MVP began, which contains the functionalities of being able to upload and view stories, create and receive coupons, view the bars on a map, among others.

This first stage of MVP finished successfully, and thanks to this we raise investment and we are ready to face the next stage.

Our team was made up of 3 co-founding partners that divided the tasks based on our abilities, and then we decided to add a minority partner of the atmosphere of the night who has knowledge of this sector.

The Horus team was initially composed of a project manager and the UI/UX designer, throughout the initial stage of the project, in the following stages a mobile developer was added to the team.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

During the launch stage of de app we had over 1000 downloads and more than 4 stars in both app stores (Android and ios). After the MVP we continue receiving good comments about usability, the flow and the aspect of the app from users, clients and investors. One of the best highlights we received was that the app was very intuitive.

The workflow between both teams was really excellent. We communicated by zoom and telephone daily. Punctuality of horus was really great. All development delivery deadlines were met perfectly.

What impressed us most about this company was the knowledge about app´s development, users experience and the optimization of resources. The Horus team was really very patient and attentive with us in the daily work. Our experience with this agency was really collaborative and positive. We obviously are going to continue working with them on the next stages of our app.

You can always improve but we are very satisfied with the work of Horus, their speed and quality have no complaints. We are sure that we have got a good product that at the end of the day was not so “MVP”.
