I'm the Manager of Employer Engagement at World Skills Employment Centre, we support immigrants to Ottawa with Employment related services

She provided Coaching sessions for our job seekers and had considered them for opportunities that she was working on

How did you select this firm and what were the deciding factors?

The aligns well with our values and vision of providing a bias free approach to the hiring process and they are strong advocates of Diversity and Inclusion.

Describe the project in detail and walk through their service package.

They hosted a Coaching session for our job seekers regarding job searching from using the most effective resume, sample interview questions and networking tips online & in person. We have also referred them candidates for the roles they were working on.

How many resources from the vendor's team worked with you, and what were their positions?

I only worked with the Founder Jordana Matsos directly

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the engagement that demonstrate progress or success?

We had a lot of amazing feedback from our job seekers regarding the valuable insights and the wealth of experience that the Hirequity team & Jordana bring to the table. They wanted her back for another session as we ran out of time, we will definitely coordinate to bring back the Hirequity team and Jordana!

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It was a pleasant experience, great communication and quick response rate whenever I had additional questions.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The most unique and impressive thing about hirequity was that they don't compromise their integrity for new clients, they will only work with employers that share the same values of eliminating biases in the hiring process.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

No complaints, great experience overall, looking forward to working with them again!

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the CEO of a lead aggregation company called CreditGurus. We are a small tech startup.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with hirequity?

Given that we’re a startup, finding young talent that was within our budget was extremely challenging. Two individuals within our firm attempted to find people, and the candidates that we found were sub-standard.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I've known Jordana (Founder) since we started the project’s design phase all the way through to where we are today. She brought forward candidates for our position, and currently, we are three weeks away from going live with our project.

She’s helping us build out our entire HR department, which is currently just 3–4 people.

What is the team composition?

So far, we've hired one digital marketer. When we go live, Jordana will fill our customer service positions.

How did you come to work with hirequity?

I met Jordana outside my capacity as CEO of CreditGurus, before we created the company. I met Jordana when she was in the recruiting business prior to starting her firm. She was actually a candidate, and I was quite impressed with how she conducted herself during the interview process. The relationship led from there.

When I started up my own company, I learned that Jordana had gone out on her own, and I was very interested in engaging with somebody of her caliber. Their ability to provide candidates who aligned with the requirements exceeded my expectations. 

There's a lot of recruiting companies out there, many of which promise fantastic results. I decided that Jordana was our person because of the attitude, energy, and confidence that she brought. I would’ve hired all three of the candidates she brought forward for our position; they were all outstanding. I don’t say that too often.

How much have you invested with them?

We have invested less than $5,000. We are on a monthly contract with Jordana. Under normal circumstances, she gets paid per hire, but we brought her in on a monthly retainer. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January or February 2021, and the partnership is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Any time I've given Jordana a task, she's accomplished it in less time than I've allotted, and she's always come to the table with outstanding results. Jordana understood our project from day one and knew exactly what we wanted to accomplish. She demonstrated that by bringing the correct people to the table.

How did hirequity perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicate by email, text, and phone calls. Jordana has a direct line to me, and I like to keep it that way with key personnel in the company. She's continuously kept in touch with me throughout the process. She doesn't over-or under-communicate — it's just right, and I'm somebody that really values that type of communication, even if it's just a quick text or a quick email to update me on their progress. 

This was especially important when we were starting up and juggling 10–20 tasks each day. Jordana was one of those tasks that was really far down on the list when it came to urgency. However, she was always somebody that continuously reported in and told us what was going on. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Because of Jordana’s sales background, I’ve noticed that she's really keen on finding the key elements of what you're looking for when hiring. She can discern the applicants by their personality traits, experience on previous productions, and their previous metrics. She's really good at drilling down into the psychology of the person that we're looking to hire. 

I've observed that she can grasp a project without having to ask numerous repetitive questions. I understand that many people do that to make it seem like they're engaged and understand what's going on in the conversation. I found that very frustrating when dealing with other recruitment firms because they would keep parroting my words back to me.

However, when Jordana asks a question, it is because it was a good question. Jordana didn’t parrot my words back to me; she came up with her take on what I want to do going forward. When she was able to put it into her words, I had confidence that she would deliver some decent results. I don't think any other recruiter would be able to produce the results she actually delivered.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There isn't anything to improve. Jordana is a professional. She's somebody that I can give a task to, and I know that it's going to be accomplished the way I would like or better — it’s not too often that I can hand something off to somebody like that.

Micromanaging is something that I really dislike doing, especially when we have so many tasks going on. Jordana is someone I don’t have to micromanage. We had a good and solid conversation, and she understood exactly what we were looking for. She executed on her own and delivered back to the table phenomenal results for us.

Any advice for potential customers?

Communicate what you want clearly, and Jordana will deliver it. Let her go, let her do what she does; she knows herself.
