I’m the head of the division that handles databases and unique servers at a telecommunications company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Goldenore?

We hired Goldenore to provide IT support and consultative services.  

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Goldenore’s team maintains our AIX and HP-UX operating systems, monitoring and maintaining the systems 24/7, according to our service level agreement. They also provide certified Oracle experts to support our servers and non-certified teammates to support our HP-UX servers. Goldenore also supports our HVR technology so we can synchronize our databases. While they do provide remote support, they also come on-site to replace server parts. 

What is the team composition?

I’ve worked with several support teammates and a team of seven experts and a project manager.

How did you come to work with Goldenore?

My procurement team and I did research and found Goldenore — we also heard about their services from another company.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership with Goldenore began in January 2021, and it’s ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Since September 2021, none of our operating systems administrations have exceeded our agreed SLAs. ​​Goldenore’s service has been excellent. Their team has met expectations for some aspects of our project and exceeded expectations for Oracle and database administration. 

How did Goldenore perform from a project management standpoint?

Since Goldenore primarily serves a support role, their teams have no specific deadlines to meet. However, their maintenance schedule is great — I’m satisfied with the reports they provide. Typically, we communicate through emails, phone calls, Jira, and occasionally in-person meetings. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Goldenore has excellent customer account management services. Also, their team is very competent and very skilled. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I have nothing for Goldenore to improve. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I’d advise customers to organize a good contract outlining the deliverables, products, and activities they want Goldenore to follow during the procurement process. Not doing that can affect Goldenore’s deliverables.

I’m an Oracle DBA and infrastructure lead for CCC Group. We sell many things online.

What challenge were you trying to address with Goldenore?

We did two projects. One was the implementation of GoldenGate two years ago. Then, a few months ago, we moved on with all the Oracle databases and products to migrate them from our current environment.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Goldenore helped us prepare the configuration for the data and all the things we needed for a good solution. In the beginning, we had a problem with licensing, but they analyzed it and solved the issue.

The core of the product was an Oracle retail system. It was a specific application, and we migrated from the platform to get the data. Also, they set up disaster discovery scenarios for the application.

What is the team composition?

We worked with a lead project manager and an Oracle engineer.

How did you come to work with Goldenore?

It was a recommendation from Oracle. Goldenore was a good business with extensive experience in implementation and migration. Also, the team had excellent engineers, and we had experience and good feedback from two years ago.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $7 million.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started the project in August 2021 and finished it in December 2021; it took half a year. We have two databases to migrate, and Goldenore gives us their support.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We had many performance issues on the databases of the previous environment. After the migration, there was a significant change in all the metrics. The performance on the IO improved a lot, and various business processes became faster. We’re happy with the results.

How did Goldenore perform from a project management standpoint?

If we had a question or wanted to change anything, we could just contact our project manager. They were open; they gave us excellent feedback. In general, the communication was great. We had meetings for every step of the project, and they shared a lot of information and space to talk about what was happening.

We used emails and Teams to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were knowledgeable and experienced. The team was great at what they did. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think so. Everything went well.

We currently cooperate with GoldenOre in two areas:

1. Migration project of a billing platform serving several million of our clients - GoldenOre is responsible for the migration of Oracle databases from the IBM Power platform to a platform based on Intel technology; it is connected with the preparation of the migration process, ensuring a startless data migration and ensuring the expected performance of databases based on Oracle technology; Oracle - GoldenGate technology is also used for migration
2. Support for the current billing platform from the side of HW and OS administration and taking care of its efficiency and business continuity

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Selection based on RFQ sent to several potential vendors. Then PoC tests with two selected suppliers. Final selection based on the conditions contained in the offer and the result of PoC tests.

4. Data mapping and transformation between platforms: Power IBM -> Intel
5. Initial data migration
6. Checking the correctness of migration (data, schemas, dependencies)
7. Performance tests of processes based on the new platform
8. Clearing data from the new platform
9. Summary of replication and synchronization between the current and the new platform
10. Proper migration Steps 4-8 repeated many times in order to achieve the expected results and to be ready for the final migration.

From 2-4 engineers, depending on the task performed and PM from the supplier

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are approaching the final migration this weekend. All previous steps were successful

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

The supplier meets our expectations; at critical moments, Goldenore dedicates additional resources to meet the project plan.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

They always try to fulfill the entrusted tasks and are open to possible changes in priorities during the project

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

From my perspective, they could improve the way their PMs work. In this area, the client should make sure that everything goes according to plan

The tool operates in production, according to production expectations and assumptions

Meetings were held remotely. GoldenOre were very flexible with their availability. Implementations took place outside of business hours or at night.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their knowledge, communication, and pro-client approach are impressive in the workflow. Exemplary cooperation.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

I wish there were more projects with this kind of collaboration with the Vendor.
