I'm the founder and CEO of an investment firm for family wealth. Basically, we're a family business focused on doing investments in the capital markets, private equity, and real estate.

What challenge were you trying to address with Generator Design Agency?

 We needed Generator Design for their rebranding services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Generator Design Agency rebranded our company and our subsidiaries. Still, we worked with them on several projects, not only on our family wealth investment firm. Their team also worked with us on rebranding my sister's brand, and they're now working with my father's endowments and subsidiaries.

For the investment company, Generator Design Agency's work included redesigning my subsidiaries' logos. My holding company had a logo, and the subsidiaries' logos were the same as the holding company's logo but with different colors. When I asked Generator Design Agency about it, they told me that we could keep the main logo and add to it a new subsidiary logo. Additionally, they developed a new website for my company.

As for the endowment and the subsidiaries, Generator Design Agency has been in charge of rebranding some of the names and all the logos from A to Z. One of the companies of the endowment started in 1965, so the logos we had were very old. They've also designed a new website and created identity guidelines.

What is the team composition?

I've mainly worked with Mohamed (Founder & Creative Director) and Reem (Senior Account Manager). They're the main teammates from Generator Design Agency with whom I've worked, but I've also had meetings with other team members.

How did you come to work with Generator Design Agency?

I found them through a mix of online research and a referral. I found a very big company in Saudi Arabia that had gone through a total rebranding. I saw their website and noticed that they had very good logos, and every logo was connected, so it was clear that the holding company owned the subsidiaries. I didn't know someone from this company, but I really liked the idea for their rebranding, so I called them and asked who had done their logos, and they directed me to Generator Design Agency.

How much have you invested with them?

I spent about $13,000–$14,000 on my company's project, which included web development. As for the endowment project, we've spent around $14,000–$15,000, but this project doesn't include website development, only design.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in February 2023, and the project ended in December 2023. Although it took a long time to complete the project, it wasn't Generator Design Agency's fault, it was me. I was looking at all the details, and I took a long time to confirm. Still, I wasn't looking to complete the project quickly; I was taking my time.

As for the endowment rebranding, the project started in February 2024, and we're almost done; I just need the final approval from the board.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Generator Design Agency did a very good and creative job for my company; I really liked it. However, we don't have metrics as such, because this is a family company, which is more private, so we've only shown the new branding to the fund managers. As for the endowment rebranding, although we haven't finished the project yet, I'm sure that it'll have a very big impact. It is a very big endowment, so it'll make a difference.

Overall, the quality of Generator Design Agency's designs is very good — their work is top-notch. Their work seems global. When they create a new brand, it looks like a global and high-end brand.

How did Generator Design Agency perform from a project management standpoint?

Generator Design Agency is great at managing timelines and finishing the work quickly, but meeting deadlines depends more on me. For my company, they were very fast, but I was slow. Now, they're still working very fast, and I'm also fast as well, so we're meeting deadlines in a good way. We communicate via email, phone calls, and WhatsApp.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Mohamed is a really good person. He's very creative and flexible with his work. Something that I really like about him is that he's very serious and passionate about his job. Whenever I tell him to do something for one of our brands, he does it and tells me if he liked the job he did or not.

I've worked with other people before on branding projects, and they usually just want to deliver the work I ask for and finish it as soon as possible. However, if Mohamed isn't entirely satisfied and sees something that could improve, he always asks if he can make his own choices to improve the end result.

What did you find most impressive about them?

What has impressed me the most about Generator Design Agency is the work they've done with the endowment. For example, they've taken the legacy identity of the company founded in 1965 that I mentioned and made a new logo. They first delivered three options for the logo, two of which were very good.

I also like that Generator Design Agency delivers what the client wants. When I provide them with an idea and talk about every little detail, they execute every little detail and deliver good results. As mentioned, when they deliver results, they also give their honest opinion.

For example, we were working on a brand whose main colors were baby blue and pink. I initially requested to keep those colors on the new branding, and they delivered the work respecting my request. Still, they told me that we could do other colors, keeping the baby blue and changing the pink a little bit. I went forward with that idea because I wanted to see what they could do.

Generator Design Agency came back with a new branding using baby blue and dark orange as the new colors, and the board actually liked the new version more. Overall, I really like that Generator Design Agency really fights to improve our brands, even though they don't own them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Although Generator Design Agency is very good at branding and web design, they're not the best at web development. Additionally, they could improve their content writing. Whenever I've provided information about a company and told them to write a company profile, they haven't been very good at it.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

Have a well-structured idea, give them every little piece of information and detail about your company, and tell them about your audience very clearly.

I’m the founder and CEO of Souq Althahab, a marketplace for jewelry.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Generator Design Agency?

We were in a unique position in our market, and we wanted to develop our first marketplace system with Shariah compliance, which entailed some technicality. Additionally, we wanted this marketplace to provide an amazing UI/UX experience that highlighted why we were Shariah-compliant.

Bahrain is well known for its high quality in jewelry manufacturing, especially gold jewelry. However, buying jewelry online is almost impossible because it’s usually not Shariah-compliant. Thus, this project represented a big challenge for us: we didn’t know how we would fuze luxury high quality while simultaneously conveying our Shariah compliance. We hired Generator to help us out.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Generator divided the project into three steps. First, we had a briefing session to introduce our business and the project. During this phase, we provided them with our brand guidelines and user personas. However, they did their own research, during which they looked at the UX our competitors were providing and identified user personas different from the ones we were targeting.

After their research process, Generator came back with suggestions on how we could shape the user personas and create the UI/UX they expected. Our brand guidelines included specific colors and fonts. However, Generator’s suggestions also included changing one of the colors and replacing the font with one that looked more feminine and blended nicely with our brand.

Then, Generator created the first demo for our platform’s design on Figma. This demo platform was animated, which helped us get the experience our users would get. It also contained 3D elements in line with the UI/UX we were trying to convey. Finally, Generator came back with the final UI/UX designs.

These designs included a very detailed UI/UX for our landing page. This landing page serves as a showroom, which is where Generator incorporated the 3D elements. When a user clicks on an element of our virtual showroom, our site takes them to a different section pertaining to a different department.

How did you come to work with Generator Design Agency?

We did a quick research on UI/UX designers in our region, looking for the company with the best designs and portfolio. Generator was one of the few companies that caught our eyes with their design aesthetics and portfolio; we saw that they worked with high-end and luxury brands. When we approached them, they showed us additional work, and we immediately knew we had found the right agency for us. We stopped searching for other agencies and hired Generator.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September–November 2022. However, Generator still follows up with us to see how the implementation is going. They’ll continue following up with us until the website goes live as a courtesy service.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The UI/UX designs created by Generator were great, and they delivered a better experience than expected, so we were very happy with the deliverables. Moreover, the changes in our branding were the right decision, and the 3D elements exceeded our expectations. Those graphic elements were so good that we now want to adapt them to our physical packaging.

One of our main requirements was to have a very specific and modern landing page. We thought that creating it would be a challenge, but Generator nailed it. They created the virtual showroom as our landing page with beautiful elements, specifically created bespoke for us.

When Generator provided us with the final prototype, we showed it to customers and provided them with a questionnaire to gather their feedback. We received very positive feedback from our customers, and almost everyone rated our UI/UX with perfect scores.

How did Generator Design Agency perform from a project management standpoint?

I was very happy and pleased by how smooth the process was. Usually, other design projects tend to exceed their timelines, and they’ve required us to get into the essential details of the process. However, our engagement with Generator was a quick process. From the start, they promised to deliver within two months, and they did it. They may have exceeded the deadline by a couple of weeks at most, which wasn’t an issue.

As for project management specifically, we simply let Generator do what they do best, and they came back to us with great designs. Still, they were very supportive and open to our ideas throughout the process, and they went above and beyond in delivering their service.

Moreover, Generator was very available. They provided us with updates and follow-ups whenever we needed them, and they were very flexible in rescheduling meetings. Additionally, they stuck to the schedule and the process they had outlined initially — they were very professional in that regard. We loved working with them.

We communicated with Generator via email, phone calls, and WhatsApp. Whenever I had inquiries or needed to follow up on something, I sent them a voice note over WhatsApp, and they replied within minutes. Additionally, we had meetings over Zoom if we needed to discuss something.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Generator facilitated a very smooth process overall. I’ve worked on over 200 projects, and Generator has been the most communicative and professional company I’ve worked with. Our communication was very positive. Even when they had negative news, such as a meeting delay, they communicated it in a very professional manner, providing their available slots to reschedule the meeting. Overall, their team was amazing and very accommodating.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything Generator could have done better.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If Generator truly believes in our project, just let them do their job, and you’ll be pleased. Moreover, If your needs are within their field of expertise, don’t bother with a tender. Just sign with them directly; it’s a no-brainer. We’ll definitely work with them in the future for all of our UI/UX design needs.

We weren’t in the public scene, so we didn’t have a website or general presence in the market. We also wanted to give a professional feel to our potential customers when they looked for our name online.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Generator Design Agency developed a website for us and did rebranding tasks. They built a dynamic, professional, and high-tech site in English and Arabic that has a tool that enables us to update and make changes ourselves, which is very helpful. In terms of the rebranding, they redesigned our company logo to make it fit the current business environment, redesigned our letterhead, and created a short video explaining the vision and mission of our company.

To jumpstart the project, we provided the content for the website, and after reviewing it and marking some changes, they applied it to the platform. We also went through a feedback phase for the branding where we approved all the colors, font’s and other esthetic aspects of the content — they were very patient to accomplish what we wanted.

Regarding the logo, they developed a design that suited our company and represented our heritage and the combination of the Arabic and English languages. Also, the website they created for us puts us in a more confident position when we introduce our business to potential partners — it shows our professionalism.

Project management was great; they were on top of everything and met the established deadlines. In terms of communication,  they were very responsive, friendly, and took care of all the changes we asked for without complaining. Overall, they focused on delivering something we really wanted and not just something generic to finish the project.

Their creativity and design skills were outstanding. Also, the personality of the team and the passion they have for storytelling were impressive.

The team could design and build regular websites but couldn't deliver our e-commerce. That was the only improvement area I found.
