They accomplished the main task of the project. I’m not a very technical person, but they made sure I understood everything they were doing. There were no set KPIs, but everything I wanted was delivered and more.

We mostly communicated through Skype and Slack. We had a weekly call with the team to discuss the project. In addition, they kept track of all of the tasks on Jira.

They’re very good at communicating, and they’re detail-oriented. There were times where I wasn’t sure what I needed or didn’t know how to solve a problem, but they were always able to help me work through it. Their guidance made a big difference.

We’ve done multiple projects with F(x) Data Labs. One of the projects involved scraping data to do with statistics on solar installations off an Australian government website, making sense of that data, and putting the data onto a Google dashboard.

Another project that they're working on is to do with DevOps. They’re working on the set up of our servers and the architecture of our systems. Then lastly, they're going to work on a machine learning project.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It only takes 1–2 conversations with F(x) Data Labs to get the job done. We know that we’ll get what we need with less effort. There’s always a lot of back and forth with other development companies where it takes 5–6 conversations. 

How did F(x) Data Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t give them hard deadlines, but their communication is really good. We’re always in contact with Jeni, and she updates us on a regular basis. I never have to worry about going back to the team about not receiving anything because I can count on Jeni to get back to me. 

We originally communicated through email, but now we’re just using Slack. Every time we need to discuss something, we jump onto a Zoom call. They are very reliable, and we don’t have to micromanage them.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication is great. Everyone on their team speaks English amazingly, which is a big plus, and everyone has expertise in the product. We have confidence in their abilities and skills. Additionally, they almost always deliver everything on time. If there are delays, Jeni is always on top of letting us know.

I really liked that integrity. They turned our ideas into reality. What’s more, our clients were very happy with the work.

Our new platform is called Action Toy Share, it’s an online rental marketplace for jet skis, boats, motorcycles, and so on. Anyone can rent out equipment through our platform. F(x) Data Labs built the frontend using React. The platform isn’t currently live but will be soon.

Facial recognition technology was used to temporarily analyze age, gender and level of appreciation . This information is then collated on our generic activity sheet generated on our front end application with both my company and client’s contact information. Our company logo and colours was also requested to be used on the activity sheet

The completion of our software means we are now the first Caribbean outdoor advertising business to offer data analytics results for campaigns. It also puts us in a position to sell this valuable service to all industry players in Jamaica and the wider Caribbean market.

Hemen went above and beyond expectations to see this project through. He was very patient to took the time to truly understand what it was that we needed to ensure he captured all relevant information. He was very communicative throughout the projects entirety and managed his time efficiently to produce results on schedule.

Managing clients across the continent can never be easy and they were able to produce results efficiently and effectively. I was even more impressed with Hemen’s willingness and commitment to learn no coding applications to facilitate the success of this project and did so without questioning abilities.

We’ve been live for 3–4 months. We’re satisfied with the first two phases and the outcome. With the machine learning algorithm that they implemented, our sales team’s production has increased because now they’re focusing more on customers or potential customers. That’s been a big plus.

Also, under our previous ERP system, the management information systems were cumbersome. Now, we have more flexibility. My finance and accounts people enjoy the flexibility in the kind of reporting that they can generate using the new ERP. We notice an increase in activity and conversions. A more detailed analytics layer in the dashboard would have helped during the evaluation phase, but this is more of a future enhancement than a gap. Overall, the collaboration was smooth.
