I’m the founder and CEO of Dwellspring, an audio wellness platform with a Flutter Mobile App. We offer sonic self-care, providing expert-crafted sounds, customizable mixes, and a supportive community to help users improve rest and relaxation.

What challenge were you trying to address with Flow Labs?

We needed to take over the full development of our mobile app from our previous offshore development agency.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Flow Labs to take over full development of the Dwellspring mobile app (Flutter, iOS & Android) from our previous offshore dev agency. The engagement had several key objectives: 1. Codebase takeover & stabilization: Inherit a legacy Flutter codebase with significant technical debt, outdated dependencies, and broken build pipelines. Flow Labs needed to get the app compilable, stabilize deployments, and establish reliable CI/CD. 2. RevenueCat integration: Migrate our subscription and in-app purchase infrastructure to RevenueCat to replace a fragile legacy payment system, including full support for native Apple and Google promo codes. 3. Complete onboarding redesign: Build an entirely new multi-screen onboarding flow with personalized content, User preference collection, and a redesigned paywall: a critical initiative for improving conversion. 4. Customer.io integration: Integrate Customer.io for email marketing, push notifications, and in-app messaging to enable lifecycle campaigns we had never been able to run. 5. Analytics instrumentation: Implement a comprehensive analytics event taxonomy across Mixpanel, AppsFlyer, and Customer.io to give our marketing and conversion optimization partners the data they needed. 6. Alexa Integration: Build a native Alexa Skill integration so Users could play Dwellspring content on smart speakers, including a full in-app setup flow. 7. Ongoing feature development & bug resolution: Run in structured Agile sprints to deliver continuous feature work, QA, and resolve persistent production issues including audio playback stoppages and subscription syncing bugs.

Worked with a primary point of contact who was also our PM and one of the dev leads. Also had a QA lead and one other senior developer in the code day-to-day.

We found Flow Labs through a referral. We chose them over other options because they had high ratings, were a great culture fit, and did a great job with our proof of concept. Their technical expertise was impressive from the outset.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Flow Labs shipped approximately 35 production releases (from v1.1.0 through v2.0.39) across both iOS and Android over the course of our engagement. The team introduced structured diagnostic tooling and stood up a dedicated QA process.  Key measurable outcomes include: 1. Codebase stabilization: Successfully inherited and modernized a legacy Flutter codebase with outdated dependencies, broken build pipelines, and significant technical debt left by the previous agency. Within the first few sprints, they had both platforms compiling and deploying reliably. 2. v2.0 major release: Delivered a landmark release that included a completely redesigned multi-screen onboarding flow, a new paywall, and RevenueCat-powered subscription management, replacing the previous fragile payment infrastructure. 3. Marketing and growth infrastructure: Integrated Customer.io (email, push notifications, in-app messaging), a comprehensive analytics event taxonomy across Mixpanel and AppsFlyer, and Statsig for A/B testing and feature flagging. These integrations unblocked our marketing and conversion optimization partners who had been waiting months for the data and tooling they needed. 4. Native promo code support: Built and launched native Apple and Google promo code functionality, which enabled our first large-scale promotional campaign tied to a 300M podcast download milestone. 5. Alexa Skill: Built and launched a native Alexa Skill from scratch, including a full in-app setup and account-linking flow, and got it published in the Alexa Skills Store. 6. Structured Agile delivery: Ran 20+ structured sprints with planning meetings, QA cycles, and sprint demos, bringing a level of process and accountability that didn't exist before.

How did Flow Labs perform from a project management standpoint?

The team did an exceptionally good job as PMs and always delivered sprints on-time and within the estimated scope.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Two things stood out to me more than anything else. First, their genuine care for the product. This wasn't just a contract to them. Rafa would proactively suggest improvements he noticed while working in the code: he once quickly added a fade-in to the sound player because certain sounds would startle him, just because he cared about the User experience. Santi set up a Statsig dynamic config on his own initiative to demonstrate what was possible with feature flagging. Their QA team caught edge cases that I never would have thought to test for. They weren't just completing tickets: they were paying attention to details and caring about the little things all the way up to the big stuff. Second, their honesty and transparency. I came from a very difficult experience with a previous development agency that had left me with significant trust issues around outsourced development. Flow Labs was the complete opposite. When they inherited the codebase and found serious problems, they told me immediately and explained it in terms I could follow even though the issues were deeply technical. They never sugarcoated anything or tried to spin bad news. When something was going to take longer than expected, they told me. When something broke, they owned it and fixed it fast. That transparency made it easy for me to trust them, and trust is not something I give easily after what I went through before. The combination of technical skill, attention to detail, and honest communication is rare. I felt like my product was in good hands, and for someone whose livelihood depends on this app, that peace of mind was incredibly valuable.

Rafa and the team were really nothing short of phenomal, always positive, yet realistic and worked with us to as some scope shifted as did timelines.

Oh man, these guys built an awesome app and worked with local head of prodcut & designer  seamlessly.  They migrated a code base from a major US university and rebuilt and improved some key features., finding creative solutions to the technical demands of the application.  Their communcation , ( especially for non-native speakers) was top notch , and could be reached very seamlessly. Am SO thankful to Rafa, Joaquin, los Santi(s) and the rest of the team for shepherding this product into life! i would be happy to directly refer ore chat with anybody who are looking for fantastic, sharp, agile and communicative developers!

Generally FlowLabs we a pleasure to work with and was organized & timely. As our project neared its end & other commitments came into scope things moved with less urgency. This was also due to our lack of product clarity as we moved beyond the pre-defined Sprints

We were most impressed with the team's passion and desire to bring their DNA into the project. This led to a high level of execution across most elements of the project beyond the pre-defined scope.

As we began learning about the functional realities of our product and found opportunities to plan & develop new features, FlowLabs lack of dedicated product-design / UX resources became a challenge, though this is an area we understand is being bolstered within their organization.

We had serious data entry problems because we documented all the data information in different excel sheets. Our company grew a lot and it was no longer feasible to keep all the information in excel. We needed a place / platform to centralize all the information and processes. A place where everyone could access and obtain all the necessary information.

I know them because they had developed a website with a complex back office in my previous job. They have an considered them along with 3 other vendors. But the organization, the work plan and the cost proposed by them made us decide to hire them.

The initial goal of the project was to group all the information of the company in a single site, clients, suppliers, raw market, etc. In a second stage we began to integrate the entire management of the company. we made weekly meeting were we resolved what to improve and how to move forward. The technolgies used were Laravel, Backpack, Mysql, Vue

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Within the first stage we were able to group and categorize all the information of the company in one place. This allowed for an incredible improvement in working times, from searching in many different excel spread sheets to putting a name and all the information to appear. In the following stages, the company's operations were integrated into the software, Operations, Quotes, Procurement and Billing.

The project management was very good, well organized. They regularly meet deadlines. We communicate vía Hangouts and also face-to-face meetings since our headquarters is in the same country.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We had direct contact with their CEO and CTO, I believe this was a great advantage. Their are easy going people, so the communication was (still is) very easy. They understand the issues quickly. Even those of our company, which, because they are a very specific, are sometimes complex.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

We are very happy with the development of the project. Perhaps an improvement would be to put together manuals simultaneously with development and modify them every time a change is requested

I'm the CEO of Foxsys, a security and virtual doorman company located in Uruguay.

For what projects/services did your company hire Flow Labs, and what were your goals?

Our company provides several services to family buildings, these includes monitoring 8 to 10 cameras per building. We have nowadays over 2.500 cameras that we keep in control every second. To continue growing we need a more efficient way to know what is happening in every camera without hiring more and more people.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We were looking for a small company with a diverse talented team willing to spend some time knowing the details of what we do and how. We also wanted a team with a consistent track of delivering projects that must run as a critical aplication, as Flow Labs did in the past.

The main goal was to build an Computer Vision engine that could classify people and vehicules and provide a second layer of analysis such as pose detection, in a scalable way with a service oriented architechture. As a secondary goal, we wanted to evaluate a combined server side / edge oriented architechture to decide whether it was more convinient to have customized hardware running in every building or we should go only server side.

The Flow Labs team evaluated several combinantions of Jetson Nano and other related firmware and then focused their time in the design of the services that would run in the main server. The also try diferent GPU hardware solutions until they found a and scalable solution to both train and detect in a efficient way.

They were 4 people working in the team and we also hire through them an outside team to work on specific parts of the code and algorithms. Thier positions were PM and code architect, two senior developer and one junior.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

We discovered that 50% of the events that were received in our control room were not related to human activity. On top of that, if we classify the 50% remaining we could gain between 80-90% optimization classifing relevant and irrelevant events.

The work was divided in several milestones with 2-3 weeks sprints, weekly meetings and Jira to follow each task.

They are absolutely commited to produce the solution that is needed in order to make our business more scalable. The team is young, enthusiastic, smart, creative and they fitted great into our culture.

I don't see any relevant improvement, we will continue working with Flow Labs in several projects ahead.

The technologies that we are using are mostly Laravel, Ngix, Mongo and Maria / Mysql

In one of the projects, the time needed to carry out a commercial operation was reduced by 50%, managing to move valuable resources to another area of ​​the company. Another project drastically reduced the use of paper, digitizing 100% of the process. Additionally, the information contained in these papers is directly entered into a database for further processing, which had a great impact on the quality of the resulting product.

What most stands out about Flow is the quality of the deliverables. Flow Labs has a good disposition and collaboration, and they're always in an excellent mood.

Because of the little free time, we generally don't celebrate our accomplishments. And you should improve a little the way we request and receive the documentation of the different projects.

We were having a hard time storing and managing our leads, clients campaigns and info, so we reached out to FlowLabs to see if they could help us, and we started working together. First they did a research of our company to then plan the best way to go. Then they developed a CRM in a really impressive time, outreaching our goals while being really useful for us. We worked a couple more months perfectioning it, and now that it is finished, we don’t even know how we lived without it!
