My company provides a digital banking app to enable customers in East Africa to open a USD bank account to send and receive money.

What challenge were you trying to address with Flambee?

We needed UX/UI design support.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Flambee has helped design our entire app from A to Z. They’ve produced high-fidelity wireframes and screens. We’ve given them a list of customer journeys to implement, like customer registration, and they’ve conducted research to identify industry best practices. Their recommendations have been based on industry standards, science, and our requirements; they’ve advised us on the color scheme, font size, and position of elements on the screen to ensure that users find and interact with these elements as easily as possible.  

They’ve created videos and graphics using various Adobe products, including Illustrator. They’ve even helped with typography; they’ve created font files we could import into the app.

They also deliver graphics, images, and icons for our social media accounts. When we want a particular post, they design options for us to choose from. Then, they customize the selected design to fit the different post dimensions of LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram.

How did you come to work with Flambee?

We needed UX/UI support, and they came very highly rated.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent $50,000–$60,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing partnership started in September 2021. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We had nothing before we started working with Flambee, and now the app has been downloaded 30,000 times in its first year. There is a waitlist of 60,000–70,000 potential users. 

We plan to begin managing the project internally in February. Flambee has been great to work with, but the project has grown; at this point, we want an in-house designer dedicated to the project.

How did Flambee perform from a project management standpoint?

Flambee has been very efficient and has met all our deadlines, even ones we may have imposed unnecessarily. We’ve asked them to turn around some social media designs in a few hours, which they’ve been able to do. Their designs are presented in Figma for our team to review.

They’re very responsive; we communicate via email, conference calls, and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their quality of work is impressive; the designers are experienced and educated in design theory and best practices. Their level of professionalism also stands out; they’re great to work with.

Are there any areas they could improve?

It’s not ideal that their team is based in a different time zone; there’s a five- or six-hour time difference. They’re a relatively small- to medium-sized company, so if they had a global presence, they might be able to serve customers faster. Overall though, the time difference is a minor inconvenience.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

To get the most out of your engagement with Flambee, share examples of what you’re looking for or have a call to start the project. If you align on what you want, they’ll do a fantastic job.

We are a technology company that builds products for patients and doctors to help them manage chronic diseases. We typically work with life sciences companies to accelerate their needs. I'm the CEO.

What challenge were you trying to address with Flambee?

We wanted a team that was experienced in UI/UX. Many of the applications we build involve complex interactions, and we wanted an organization that could help us as we developed these applications.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Right now, they manage all our UI/UX. They develop our graphic assets and our interaction design in both web and mobile applications. Most of their work is largely from the ground up. Before we brought them on, we considered requirements and various use cases. We gave them some direction in terms of features and functionality, and they then built all the assets from the ground up.

Typically, we have a session in the beginning to provide some knowledge transfer or our goals and objectives for the project. They will iterate and start with some sample designs. Once we settle on the look and feel, we work on interaction designs and screen flow. When they've finished a significant part of the project, we review the prototypes and give them feedback. We have fairly good interaction along the way.

How did you come to work with Flambee?

We found them online and had an initial call with them. We enjoyed meeting their head and decided to give them a shot. The first project was successful, and we've been with them ever since.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together around the beginning of 2018, and our collaboration is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Design is difficult to measure objectively. We do work well together, and our internal team well receives their deliverables.

How did Flambee perform from a project management standpoint?

Their project management is good.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I'm impressed by their hard work and dedication. They work around the clock to meet our deadlines, and they're very invested in the work they do for us and our success. Their dedication and care for our business are everything we could hope for in this kind of partnership.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can't think of anything they should do differently.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

As with any agency, make sure you set out clear objectives and communicate your goals. Once they have a good handle on the project, they'll execute everything for you.

Please describe your company and your position there.

I'm the owner and founder of Afton Shows and MyAfton. MyAfton is a platform for musicians, bands, and rappers. Afton produces over 1,000 live music events each year in 60 U.S cities and 8 Canadian cities. We currently have 150,000 users and are growing rapidly.

For what projects/services did your company hire Flambee?

Our MyAfton platform did not have great UX/UI and was confusing to users. We have many features that relate to booking and other products that musicians need. We had been adding features over the years and it got to a point that we needed to completely revamp everything and make our platform more optimized for mobile phones.

What were your goals for this project?

To create a better UX and categorize and place all of the features, services, and buttons in a way that users were not confused. We also wanted a better design and look for the platform.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

The owner of Flambee Designs, Guillermo, contacted me directly before our scheduled interview and sent over mockup ideas. He spent time researching our company and created an account to see what our platform looked like before the interview. He was better prepared than all other candidates and I could tell he cared about the project and was willing to go above and beyond. Plus, the mockups he sent over interview illustrated his expertise in UX/UI. I highly reccomend this company.

Describe the project in detail.

We started off with in-depth Skype calls so Guillermo could come up with a better UX/UI flow. He provided wireframes that we all agreed on before moving onto the next stage. As the project went on, we decided to add more to the initial scope of the project. He did such a great job that we increased our overall budget so every part of MyAfton could be redesigned by Guillermo's team. We have a massive platform with many screens and features, so it was a big project.

What was the team composition?

Guillermo took lead on the project and one of his top designers, Brian, came in when we got to the wireframe stage. They've always been great to work with and have delivered on everything we asked.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

After launch, our existing users reported higher satisfaction in our platform. We saw an increase in sign-ups by 300%, and we were able to better communicate with our artists through the platform, which cut down about 25% of the questions we used to receive.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Guillermo was easy to work with and always delivered tasks on time. They went above and beyond in every possible way.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The project turned out great and exceeded our expectations. I was so happy to finally find a design team that would create designs without needing my constant direction and input. In the past, designers kept asking me what I wanted, which got annoying. I'm not a UX/UI designer, and in the past, with many other design firms, I felt like I had to be in charge of all of the creative decisions. With Flambee, they would delivery two or three mockup ideas, and we always liked what they did. They took it on themselves to come up with something that looked good instead of relying on me to mockup what I wanted. Now, I can trust when I need something designed by Flambee that they'll deliver top quality without me feeling like I'm doing all of the work. We use them for all of our UX/UI projects and are currently in development with them on two larger projects.

Are there any areas for improvement?

None that come to mind. I have had zero problems working with Flambee.
