Macarena went above and beyond to help with pre-production and ensuring that everything ran as smoothly as possible on the day.

Communication was excellent both ahead of the shoot and on the day with the camera team Delfi and Edgar, and the team liased well and kept us informed of the client's needs and how filming was going. Rushes were delivered quickly and efficiently.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The team was so professional and friendly and therefore were very easy to work with for both our production company and our client. Macarena was so efficient and helpful with making sure everything was sorted for the day, and the team dealt excellently with last-minute changes and obstacles.

The camera team, Delfi and Edgar, were great and kept excellent communication despite our company being in the UK and the filming being in Buenos Aires, and they delivered really high-quality interviews and b-roll. Would highly recommend this team- overall they went above and beyond to deliver really high quality content and great service.

I’m the co-owner of ICU Documentaries, a documentary production company based in the Netherlands. We mainly produce documentary series for Dutch public TV, but we also sometimes produce ones for the international markets.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

Fixer Argentina has helped us produce a part of a documentary series we’re currently working on for public TV. It’s scheduled to air in January 2022. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we couldn’t travel to Argentina to conduct interviews and shoot scenes for our documentary. Fixer Argentina helped us by going to the interviewees by themselves and conducting the interviews. They kept us in the loop during preproduction so we could prepare the interviews together. Prior to the actual shoot, the team helped us research storylines and several angles. Their resources came up with potential interview candidates and searched for people online. After we vetted these candidates, Fixer Argentina talked to them. The team then presented their stories to us, which allowed us to decide when to shoot with the interviewees. 

After that, the team made all the necessary production measures, such as checking if the camera crew was booked. Their director of photography and sound recordist also made sure they rented all of the equipment we needed. Moreover, we wanted the videos they shot in Argentina and the ones we produced in the Netherlands to look exactly the same. Given that, we sent their director a showreel, which they used to ensure our footage pieces matched. After shooting the scenes, they uploaded the videos and showed them to us.

At present, we’re finished with the shoot, but our relationship continues. When I have a story that has to be shot in Argentina or in Latin America, I first have to come up with a new series that I can sell in the Netherlands. If I need to travel to any place in Latin America, I’ll be working with Fixer Argentina again. 

What is the team composition?

We’ve worked with 5–6 people, including the director of photography, sound recordist, project manager, and line producer. At times, we also work with a Steadicam operator.

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

Fixer Argentina was referred to us by a mutual contact. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in June 2013, and the partnership is technically ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The quality of Fixer Argentina’s work is excellent. That goes for the content and the way they’ve conducted the interviews. The stories that they’ve gotten out of people are also excellent. This is a critical success metric for us, especially since we’re producing a documentary. On top of that, the quality of the images and sounds they’ve captured are equally impressive. I’m a critical person, and my standards are high, but I’m quite happy with their work. Overall, I couldn’t be more satisfied with the results of their job. 

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

Fixer Argentina does well in both scheduling and budgeting. For us, deadlines are a sanctuary; we never miss a deadline in this type of job. Given that, their team delivers on time. In fact, they’ve uploaded all the materials we need earlier than expected. They also stay within budget; they keep us informed of any extra days that we have to pay. The team always confirms such things, so there are no surprises by the end. 

To communicate, we primarily use emails. Emails are great because of the time difference between the Netherlands and Argentina; there’s a six-hour gap. We also use Skype calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their commitment stands out in their work. Fixer Argentina goes the extra mile to a level that I’ve never seen before in other vendors worldwide. Simply put, they deliver. Apart from that, they recuperate from setbacks extremely well. For instance, when people aren’t willing to talk and some of them opt out, the team comes up with better alternatives; they don’t stop working just because of setbacks. Even when the project is finished, they keep us in the loop about any real-world situations that might be of interest to our documentary. 

For comparison, we feel that other vendors treat our projects as merely a job. By contrast, that’s not the case for Fixer Argentina. They provide a lot of extra services by making sure I’m appraised of what’s happening in the story even after I’ve paid the invoice. This is truly special for us. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Do it — don’t hesitate; hire them. Apart from that, it’s crucial to stay in touch with Fixer Argentina on a regular basis. They’re willing to do that, so make sure you’re available to them. If they come up with questions, make sure to answer such questions. Simply put, the better you inform them about your expectations, the better the results you’ll get.

I’m the owner of ICU Documentaries, a documentary production company. We produce documentary series for Dutch public television.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

One of our challenges was getting the right interviews for the Che Guevara documentary series we were producing at the time. Another challenge was pre-producing our trip, which involved preparing everything for the crew that would be flying in from different countries.

We worked with them on two major projects. One was a four-episode documentary series on the life of Che Guevara. Fixer Argentina obtained the interviewees who were close to Che Guevara, such as his family and friends. 

The team got in touch with the individuals and asked them if they’d be comfortable being on camera. The team also managed the pre-production, logistic, transportation, hotel accommodation, and customs clearance.

We would set the goal and they would also provide us with input about the challenges we might face in different countries. It was a collaborative process.

We primarily had two points of contact. 

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

My fellow director had worked with one of the owners a couple of years before and was satisfied with the on-ground cooperation and production. When we knew we would be doing this Che Guevara documentary, it was a no-brainer that we would work with Fixer Argentina.

What is the status of this engagement?

We met with them to talk about the project in July 2016, but the production began in August 2016. We finished working with them in March 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They had a tremendous impact on the project. Fixer Argentina was committed and instrumental in getting people who were close to Che Guevara to cooperate on the story. Something they were good at was establishing a relationship with the interviewees and building trust before we started. 

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

We communicated mostly via email and WhatsApp. We also used Skype occasionally. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

What stood out was their ability to get the interviewees to work with us on the documentary. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We would have appreciated it if they had communicated explicitly about what they were working on for the episodes.

If you’re a less experienced crew, Fixer Argentina communicates very well. However, if you’re a more experienced crew, they sometimes tell you things you already know.

I’m an assistant producer at Like A Shot Entertainment. We’re based in London, and we mainly produce science and historical programs.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

Before, we traveled to do our own shoots. However, due to COVID-19, we weren’t able to travel so we could only hire local crews. As a result, we hired Fixer Argentina to function as fixer of our production. That way, they could organize everything and help us film on different locations.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Fixer Argentina worked on three different shoots for us. We worked on a series called Mysteries of the Abandoned. We had to find the locations first for each of our shoots. Then, we spent one day filming on each location and worked on telling the story of our series. 

During the course of our engagement, they also suggested some locations that might be interesting to us in Argentina. We had very specific briefs, so we did all the editorial work. Meanwhile, their work involved organizing the filming and travel, putting together the crew, and contributing to the interview. They also did some research. Overall, Fixer Argentina was in charge of our logistics and production needs.

What is the team composition?

We mainly worked with Gert (Producer) and Macarena (Senior Producer). Gert was in charge of the office production. Meanwhile, Macarena served as our field producer and director. They also had a production assistant who supported them.

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

Someone from our team recommended Fixer Argentina. However, we didn’t go for them straight away. We approached different companies as well. In the end, Fixer Argentina's budget was the best. On top of that, they did an episode for us a long time ago and it had good quality. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them from February 2021–March 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They completely finished and wrapped our production efforts. Though our project ended, we could still contact them and ask them additional questions. Fixer Argentina provided a very professional service to us. Even though we were quite tight on schedule due to another impending lockdown on Argentina, the team was able to shift our schedules around, which was really helpful. Moreover, they tried to make their outputs as best as possible — they didn’t just go with whatever we suggested. That showed that they had good editorial inputs. Overall, they did everything they could do to fulfill our plans which could’ve been canceled due to restrictions. 

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very good at answering our questions and double-checking details. They also quickly got back to us whenever we needed. On top of that, they completed all of their deliverables in a timely manner.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They had helpful ideas throughout the partnership. However, I couldn’t comment about all their overall work since I didn’t look at all the footage yet. There may be some potential bad surprises, but they were efficient and reliable. They had qualities that any client would want from a local production company.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There was nothing negative in our partnership. Everything went quite smoothly, and they did exactly what we were hoping they’d provide.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Overall, Fixer Argentina was a pleasure to work with and very efficient. I would recommend them to anyone and hope to work with them again.

I work as a producer at SkyhighTV, a Netherlands-based production company. We make TV programs for commercial and public broadcasters.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

We needed their team to help us with the video production of our documentary series about Queen Maxima, the Queen of Netherlands. Part of our series featured the life of the queen in Buenos Aires, Fixer Argentina’s location.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Fixer Argentina was mainly involved in video production. We provided a written script and explained everything to them once we were at the set location. Their team conducted guest interviews and scheduled all our set visits.

We went there with our own cameramen and took home all the video materials with us to the Netherlands.

We mainly communicated with Macarena (Owner & Senior Producer) and her partner Gert (Co-Producer). We also worked with their assistant.

I sent them a message through their Facebook page and they replied. I then spoke with them and thought they were trustful. They seemed to be the best fit among the teams I contacted.

Fixer Argentina really followed all our rules. Although that was good, I thought they could loosen up on that.

Some people might find it difficult to communicate with them in the beginning because they could be very strict and direct. Still, you could trust their fair team to do the work for you.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

We needed help with video production.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The projects vary from news features, radio, television, and occasional documentaries. I’ve worked with them dozens of times.

The biggest project we did with Fixer Argentina was a documentary about the murder-suicide of an Argentine prosecutor. We did a documentary for BBC that needed really good access to high levels of the Argentine judiciary, the government, and some really serious players.

The most recent work we’ve done was about the death of an Argentine footballer; this was for BBC news. It involved traveling to the north of Argentina and getting really good access to people inside his family.

I mainly work with two people.

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

They’re a highly recommended video production company.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in January 2014, and the engagment is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We wouldn’t have stayed with them if we weren’t happy with the quality of the personnel and locations they get for us. I’ve always been impressed with their tenacity. For the assassination documentary, we managed to interview the man’s widow. She hadn’t spoken to the media before. They get us exactly what we want, and I’ve not been let down by them. Their ability to open doors is amazing.

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

Project management is very good. I remember flying into Argentina once and there’d been a helicopter crash. I had to get there as quickly as I could. It wasn’t production help I needed but facilitating things on the ground. Fixer Argentina was able to organize that for me.

Usually, the work we do with them isn’t time-sensitive. Once I went there to do the 2014 World Cup Final that was happening in Brazil. There were really big crowds in Buenos Aires that we needed to cover. Fixer Argentina found a really good vantage point overlooking the center of the square on short notice. In that case, it was time-sensitive, and they came up with what we needed.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re thoroughly professional.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They’re a small team, and I can’t remember any occasions when they weren’t available to us. Their nicheness and small size is a good thing but if they had a slightly bigger team, they could spread themselves more.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They take journalism very seriously. They’re not looking to do silly, stereotypical filming. Their team has been increasingly working with a lot of sports productions from North America. They’ve done that very well. Fixer Argentina isn’t cheap but nothing in Argentina is cheap. They’re worth paying the extra dollar.

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

We were making a documentary about Eva Perón, a sort of combined history and art project. We got in touch with Fixer Argentina to help us with filming on the ground in Argentina.

What was the scope of their involvement?

With Fixer Argentina, we filmed in Buenos Aires, as well as two other locations Eva Perón had lived in. We utilized them for several areas of expertise, including Spanish language, interview set up, driving, and just general Argentine cultural knowledge. 

We wanted to talk to politicians, political commentators, and other similar people, so we used Fixer Argentina to identify who we could speak to. 

What is the team composition?

Macarena (Senior Producer) was our main point of contact. We also worked with a driver and a drone operator. 

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

We came across Fixer Argentina as well as a couple others, but we knew that Macarena had experience working with our broadcasting company. We knew she would understand the kind of project we wanted to create.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from September 2017–February 2018. We finished the filming period in November, but we continued to have a working relationship for several months as we finished picking up bits and pieces and putting everything together.

Fixer Argentina was fantastic. They were very good both in the preproduction process as well as when we were on the ground, offering excellent advice and options. They provided valuable context and information about the people we were speaking to, which was very helpful. 

We had quite a good experience working with them. Fixer Argentina delivered above and beyond what we originally set out to achieve.

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

We kept in touch over Skype calls and email before we got to Argentina, and once we were there we started using WhatsApp when we weren’t together in person. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Macarena is a very talented, serious producer. She was an excellent resource, understanding what we wanted as directors and producers, and she has a really great editorial mindset. 

She also knows Argentina, and Buenos Aires in particular, like the back of her hand, which helped us a lot logistically. She was able to get us into places and in touch with people we never would’ve been able to without her. She really excels.

There’s nothing I can think off the top of my head. Everything went really well.

Be very clear in terms of what you’re looking for, but also give Macarena the opportunity to offer her own perspective. Trust in her expertise.

What challenges were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

We were filming a series in Buenos Aires and needed support on the ground to guide us.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The series explored different parts of Buenos Aires from the point of view of several British celebrities. Fixer Argentina helped us get access to various locations and provided knowledge of the area. They helped us set an itinerary for the series including where to go, who to talk to, and more. 

What is the team composition?

We had one main point of contact. 

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

It wasn’t my job to find them, but they were on a shortlist of several companies that we spoke to. After several phone interviews, we found they were the best option. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together around July 2018. We were in Buenos Aires for six days of filming, but we worked with them prior to that for about 2–3 months.

They did a good job. It was hard and we asked a lot of them, but they delivered on what we needed. 

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint? 

I wasn’t the primary person dealing with them on a daily basis. We mostly communicated over email prior to our trip to Argentina for filming. Communication was good, we never struggled to get a hold of them. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They were able to get permission for us to film at the opera house, which doesn’t often allow filming. That became a great part of the show. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

At this time, I would say no.

An open, honest relationship is what’s best, as is the case for most people. They respond to feedback well.

I work for a large media organization. We have television, digital on-demand, radio, and podcast offerings. I’m a feature producer doing long-form, investigative, documentary-style features.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Fixer Argentina?

There were multiple changes we needed help with. We were doing a pretty sensitive investigation inside Argentina, and I live and work in New York City and am not fluent in Spanish. That was the first challenge. The second was that the story was very sensitive. It had to do with sexual assault and politics, so it required a certain type of temperament and a certain knowledge of sourcing and the country to get the interviews I needed to make the story functional. Fixer Argentina had to help us on the production level and the newsgathering level to make the documentary functional.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’ve used them for a wide scope of expenses. They’ve done pre-production, fact-finding, and on-the-ground reporting and follow-up for us. They also helped with in-country shooting of footage. Finally, they did post-production, hired crew, and got insurance for equipment.

We were able to leverage their translation services and network of news resources on the ground too, which prevented us from having to hire multiple companies.

We work with both Macarena (Founder) and Gert.

How did you come to work with Fixer Argentina?

I work with a reporting partner, and she and I sat down and brainstormed and requested recommendations for fixers in Argentina. We came up with a list and Fixer Argentina had come up for us because one of their founders was previously a BBC bureau reporter. We felt that her background was very appropriate for us in what we were trying to accomplish with the story. Additionally, we had mutual friends that had recommended Fixer Argentina in the past.

We called a couple of people to speak about the project, and when we spoke to Fixer Argentina we learned they had experience doing documentaries with other major production companies that also dealt with South American football. That comparable experience made us feel more comfortable using them.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been talking together since August 2018, and the first shoot was in December 2018. We did three more shoots throughout 2019 as well. The documentary hasn’t been published yet as we’re continuing to work with them on follow-up reporting on the ground since travel has been heavily restricted.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We would not have been nearly as successful as we were if we hadn’t had their services. Providing crew and transportation and camera equipment was great, but any smart and organized person could do that. What Fixer Argentina did for us in establishing and maintaining relationships with key characters on the ground was amazing. When we got to Argentina, we were able to jump right in and get to work. They built the trust necessary with sources during the pre-planning. It was a very sensitive story and would have been very difficult to walk in the door with cameramen and press record. Instead, we were rolling within a day or two.

How did Fixer Argentina perform from a project management standpoint?

Our communication is a combination of emailing, texting, and regular conference calls. They’re also very good about putting everything on paper, as well as the associated costs, so you know what you’re getting into.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re incredibly valuable for the variety of services they offer. In a sense, they’re a one-stop-shop for your production needs. Their personability and professionalism, as well as their intelligence, are great. They understand stories and what needs to happen to get stories produced. Their attention to detail also stands out.

This project is very unique, and it’s taken over a very long period of time, much longer than most projects. Despite this, Fixer Argentina has been as invested in this project as we’ve been. Even though they’re fixers and act as project consultants, they still email us with updates. I’ve paid the last invoice but they’re still following the story and making sure everything is accurate. I almost consider them co-producers now since they’re dedication exceeds that of traditional fixers I’ve used in the past.

Are there any areas they could improve?

My only criticism is that their communications could be a bit more specific. It’s a picky request, but when you’re dealing with specifics you want to make sure you understand everything clearly.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Working with Argentinian banks it was hard to get them paid through traditional wiring services. I never want a fixer to have to lay a lot of company money on the line up-front, but it was very hard to get large amounts of local currency. The money factor is the biggest challenge for any international company working there, not only with Fixer Argentina.
