What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We needed a website revamp, something fresh and modern that could grab the audience’s attention while making an inquiry or submitting a form easier. Additionally, we wanted to move from the infrastructure ("Joomla") for a number of reasons. We were under tight deadlines and needed additional outside resources to get the tasks accomplished on time. The outcome was the launch of a newly built website.

The Solvd team changed the website’s previous CMS, Joomla, to WordPress. They proposed a new visually appealing design based on 25 unique templates, and also helped deploy a Chinese version of the site that’s hosted on a Chinese server. 

Their test automation and QA engineers conducted automated testing using Zebrunner and DIF manual QA testing, including performance, smoke, regression, and maintenance testing, and helped to connect online forms to a database. Deliverables were provided in an orderly fashion and according to schedule. Throughout our work with Solvd, they have been highly responsive to any of our related needs.

I’m the director of connected services at TuSimple, a company that makes autonomous trucking work in the US.

What challenge were you trying to address with Solvd, Inc.?

We needed a company that could help us put together a remote operating center quickly. The remote operating center is designed to help monitor our autonomous trucks when they're on the road and allow a team of people to look at the activities when there is no driver in the vehicle. We can also use it for R&D and other purposes, but the main goal was to provide a solution to monitor trucks remotely when they driving on the roads by themselves.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We hired Solvd, Inc. to help us build a frontend where the remote user can easily monitor a fleet of trucks and dive into individual trucks to look at issues when they come up. It serves as a central operating center for us to track and measure the program's success and to have eyes on the trucks when people are not locally in the vehicle.

We started the engagement by establishing the scope of work, after which we created a statement of work. Solvd, Inc. then assigned resources that encompass the UI/UX and frontend development teams. The utility of the solution was our primary success metric. Solvd, Inc.’s UI/UX work provided us with valuable features that we needed to monitor our trucks and maintain the availability and uptime of our backend.

I did a lot of research and talked to a lot of users to see what the most optimal design elements were, so we already had an excellent structure to begin with. With that being said, Solvd, Inc. was instrumental in getting that Figma UI/UX design flow out so that we were able to do a quicker turnaround for our users to actually get feedback and walk through the usability and the workflows.

Solvd, Inc. performed well in terms of project management despite the fact that their time zone is different than ours. Their program manager was great at aligning with the work objectivity. Their team was also diligent in resolving issues that arose.

The pricing is fair and the work was done very organized. I'm most impressed by how well the team was able to take my ideas and go through the processes to implement them. Of course also the code was written very cleanly so it is now easy to work with it.

Initially when going through my ideas and writing it down we talked every day. Once all of it was documented and in Jira, I would answer questions every 2/3 days. Towards the end we would speak once every week or two just to check things are on track.

I enjoyed working with everyone. They were very nice and talented people who genuinely cared about what they built. The communication was very strong if anything happened in the project they would alert me and ask for guidance.

I think one aspect that could be improved is the speed of development but I understand that this was done to completely test all angles and make sure there are no bugs down the road. So nothing too big.
