The scope of work covered end-to-end mobile software development to enable robust, bidirectional Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE 5.2) communication between consumer mobile devices (Android and iOS tablets and smartphones) and a custom-developed health biotracker used in ARPA-H NIGHT Study. 
Etere Studio was responsible for maintaining and evolving an existing Android prototype, resolving bugs, and extending functionality to support multiple hardware revisions during the initial milestone. Subsequent milestones included porting the application to a cross-platform Flutter framework to enable iOS compatibility, implementing new features aligned with ongoing hardware development, and ensuring configurability to accommodate evolving device specifications. 
In the final phase, the scope expanded to include development of a simplified, home-monitoring version of the app featuring an intuitive user interface and automated measurement workflows suitable for non-expert users. 
Key deliverables included fully functional Android (.apk) and iOS (.ipa) application packages for each milestone, BLE communication and data management layers validated against successive hardware prototypes, iterative feature enhancements delivered on schedule, and post-development debugging and maintenance support to address bugs and evolving project requirements.

Every item was delivered by the project deadline, and Etere Studio always responded in a timely manner to bug fixes and change-of-scope requests

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

What impressed us most about Etere Studio was their high degree of autonomy combined with consistent reliability in execution. Once the device operation and data semantics were clearly defined, they were able to independently drive the software development with minimal supervision, while remaining highly responsive to frequent hardware-driven changes. 
Their flexibility in accommodating scope adjustments, ability to collaborate effectively across a six-hour time zone difference, and disciplined adherence to timelines were particularly notable. 
Despite constraints related to prototype availability and proprietary IP restrictions, they consistently delivered stable, production-ready software and provided ongoing support for bug fixes and feature updates, making them a highly dependable partner for complex hardware–software co-development projects.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Etere Studio could have done differently?

If anything, one area for potential improvement would be more formal documentation of architectural decisions during the transition to the cross-platform framework, which could have further facilitated long-term maintainability and knowledge transfer. 
That said, given the hardware-driven nature of the project, evolving requirements, and the contractual choice not to include source code delivery for later milestones, these trade-offs were well understood and reasonable within the project context.
