The second phase of the project (not yet started) will be the admin side of the portal so that our clients can login and control their own testing and access test scores in real time.

I find it impressive and effective that they have a team lead for each department, which is normal, but the team leads are on the stand up calls, know what is happening with every task, and keep up with the projects at a level that I have rarely seen from a TL.

Not in my opinion. They have worked out so well in my first engagement with them that I have used them on another and plan to continue to use them and shift some of my in house development staff to contract work under Enosis as soon as possible.

Enosis was initially engaged to take over sustaining engineering of a Windows desktop application (C#, .NET, Winforms). They completed a number of new features and bug fixes for that application. The scope of work expanded to include updating and modernizing that codebase. They also maintained and expanded unit test coverage for the codebase. Over the years, the scope continued to expand, and Enosis took over sustaining engineering of the entire software portfolio, which also included Xamarin cross-platform applications for iOS and MacOS. Enosis handled the software development, bench testing and release staging for 5 different software applications, based on 3 codebases, comprised of 16 software component packages. During the engagement, Enosis also made significant contributions to CI/CD/Devops process improvements and automations.

Enosis does a great job with both logistical and technical project management. They do an excellent job of scoping, and delivering on estimates. In one instance, we had a tradeshow that forced a deadline for a deliverable, and they were able to hit the date, even though it had not been based on their estimation.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I think the thing that I appreciated the most about the engagement with Enosis was that their developers were able to offer recommendations when requirements were lacking detail, or when the documented requirements were not technically feasible.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Enosis Solutions could have done differently?

No, not really. The biggest challenge is with domain expertise. We make Wi-Fi troubleshooting tools, so a fairly deep understanding of Wi-Fi protocols and RF engineering are required to fully understand what the software is doing. In addition, we design and manufacture hardware products, and understanding the inner workings of those products is valuable for properly integrating them into the software. Meeting those requirements does not align well with contract software development. The Enosis team rose to the challenge, though.

I have known Enosis for sometime as they are also heavily utilized by another company in which I am an investor.  They have worked with that company for over 10 years.  We went to Enosis as the original code that was developed for the Electronic Guardian was quite flawed.  They were able to redevelop the software, including the development of our unique private key level security with resting key level accessibility (patent pending).

Enosis is a great development partner.  Having worked with various off-shore development firms, no one comes close to their work product, seriously.  The code is strong, they actively engage in the project and really understand what they are doing so the outcomes are very solid. I have worked with groups in India, Mexico and Eastern Europe and Enosis is the best - they listen, they understand and then they produce good results.  I would highly recommend them.

This is an ongoing project, as we continue to add new features into the product.  Time lines are usually met - my personal philosophy with software development is one should be late about 15% of the time, this ensure aggressive enough goals and not too much padding.  They include a PM as part of the service and that helps the whole project run smoothly.

InsightFormation Inc. is a strategy execution company focused on the public sector.  We help communities to address large scale problems such as opioid addiction, dementia among the aging population and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs).  As a part of this process, we have developed InsightVision an SAAS model software application for managing large and complex strategies.  For the past 11 years we have engaged Enosis to supplement our development staff.  We have always found the staff and project managers to be knowledgeable and willing to learn about our business so they can provide the best solution possible for us and our clients.  The Enosis developers are equally able to work within strict parameters or (when allowed) can offer creative solutions to problems we are experiencing.  Unlike our previous partners, language/communication has never been a problem.  The Enosis team always kept open communication with us, keeping us up to date on progress and roadblocks as they are encountered.  Likewise, they have  provided many ways for us to monitor the progress and review the development during the current sprint. I would highly recommend them to anyone looking for an offshore team to supplement their development staff.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Enosis Solutions could have done differently?

They could offer a more extensive guarantee time for bug fixing, since as of now there are only 2 weeks after the software updates are done to test it in production, if something is missed in this period a new project has to be done and the cost is charged to the customer, this might represent a small effort for Enosis but it would be a great plus for customers like us.

What challenge were you trying to address with Enosis Solutions?

We had a broad product suite, and we experienced difficulties when it came to testing. We needed help doing manual and automated testing for a large enterprise solution.

What was the scope of their involvement?

The main thrust of our collaboration with Enosis was verification. They tested if our software worked as expected and if it conformed to our training materials. Since our product suite was a niche industry, we provided manuals and training instructions. 

Enosis started by doing manual verification of the training materials. Afterward, they automated the testing — they created automated and unattended testing frameworks that exercise a lot of our product. 

Their main development environment was Python. They also used AutoCAD and Autodesk solutions.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two developers and Mohammed S. (Senior Operations Manager).

How did you come to work with Enosis Solutions?

We had a shortlist of third-party developers, and we chose to work with Enosis. However, I wasn’t the first person who spoke with them, so I’m unsure where we initially interacted.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent $120,000 in total. 

What is the status of this engagement?

Our engagement lasted from January 2016–April 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We used Jira to follow the development, collaborate with their team, and track their problem reports. 

Throughout our partnership, they made 183 problem reports. Whenever we encounter a problem report, their tester would go to a developer to confirm if it was a real issue. From the 183 problem reports, 41 were confirmed bugs — from our perspective, that was a good rate, and it was in line with our expectations. 

How did Enosis Solutions perform from a project management standpoint?

Enosis is good at project management. It was a collaborative process, and they were open and responsive. 

One thing I was initially afraid of was that they wouldn’t be engaged in the project. They ended up not just doing what we said, but they also collaborated with our team. Through our partnership, we set milestones and prioritized work to be done. The process wasn’t easy, but it was doable.

Aside from Jira, we also used emails to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Enosis was willing and eager to adapt to our workflows on coding and issues. We didn’t have to conform to their workflows; they were more than happy to conform to our workflow, which made working together easy. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

Some of the projects stretched longer than expected, so we had to abort a couple of them. However, I understand that’s something that always happens in projects like this.

Make sure that you dedicate the time needed to do project management.

Enosis has created too many features for me to list, including key integrations with Office365 and key media vendors. They have also tackled larger, month or quarter-long in scope, while still keeping capacity for small reactive work. We are a full Microsoft shop and have moved most of our infrastructure to the Azure cloud platform.

Key technologies as C#/.NET, Azure Cloud SQL, managed cloud services like F# function app services and eventhubs.

We started with 2-3 developers and a project manager. We now have a team of 6 developers, 1 QA, 1 tech lead, and 2 project managers. I also speak frequently with higher-level managers and my success rep in New York.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

I only really have anecdotal or internally-used metrics like completed story points, but I will say they are very good at estimating and meeting dates. They complete more points than my comparable US and near-shore teams.

Their deliverables have increased in quality and automated test coverage over the last few years.

We have a Monday and Thursday morning standup. We also have almost weekly design, grooming, or demo sessions. The team uses our Slack channel and provides weekly updates on their progress via a Github rolling document. They are very organized and let us know if something is slipping.

They used to be very waterfallish with their estimates but have adapted to our processes very well.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I am impressed at the evolution and growth of the team and the low turnover of their development team. I am also thrilled that they keep enough people around that know our products so they can spend 2-months of onboarding and shadowing for new hires or replacements.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

While they strive to have coverage, Enosis' devs usually take their time off around national/religious holidays. We have become so dependent on them that is a painful week when most of the team takes off.

Also, while the devs will stick around later, more so during the pandemic, the time overlap is short and inefficient for many of us, especially our product people in Western US.
