I’m the CEO of Subtl Beauty. We make portable, stackable makeup solutions for women on the go. We’re primarily a digital native company, meaning we sell our product predominantly on  the web and have a few retail partners.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Dosenyo?

Initially, it was to provide a visual representation of a product before our product was went to manufacturing. So doing 3-D work, putting it in context for others to kind of visualize what our product does and how it works.

Since then, it's really just been luck leveraging her heavily on expanding our creative assets. A lot of what users see on our website is designed to during our projects together, providing country these renderings of the product to give kind of it and more elevated look.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

 One instance in particular where I found an image that I'd really like to have a different product, and I shared that with her and kind of talked about how I wanted our product represented similarly.

They created 3D renderings of our products.

One particular image was of our product mimicked a falling experience. there are different layers in our products. We wanted to be a to showcase each individual layer. Once we shared our vision with her, she was able to produce it.

We worked with just one person.

I discovered them on Upwork. I spent some time looking through different profiles in that 3D space. Once I came across their profile, it was game on from there.

We’ve spent between $3,000–$5,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in August 2018 and it’s ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We've been able to use those 3D renderings on our Web site, and they’ve been instrumental in our check-out flow. We also use the images for ads.

They understood our vision really quickly. It doesn't take a ton of explaining from us. We can trust them to run with the idea without veering too far away from our vision.

They’ve been instrumental in the success we’ve had.

How did Dosenyo perform from a project management standpoint?

We have a great cadence. They understand what the project needs, ask questions when they need to, and have a formal review process. We communicate over Upwork.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of their portfolio stands out. It closely resembled what I was looking for.

Also, they have a diverse offering of products. They did a lot of stuff in various industries.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything right now.

Provide as many requirements as you can up front. It will help them understand your vision entirely. Then communicate your timeline and budget.

I don’t have any metrics yet.

How did Dosenyo perform from a project management standpoint?

They were very effective in their communication and kept me updated at all stages.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’m impressed with their ability to deal with multiple aspects of production. Some companies can only do design, but Dosenyo handled 3D rendering and manufacturing as well.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Having a bit more back-and-forth communication would’ve been good. They updated me on their progress, but they didn’t always ask for feedback from my end.

Having regular communication is important.

Donita's designs were very creative and her final design files were easily interpreted by the factory for samples to me made.

Donita was very responsive to all email and chat communications. They understood our requirements and communicated their suggestions effectively.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

My favorite part about working with Donita was her artistic abilities where she would provide several pencil sketches to get the basic geometry and style I was looking for and then take that forward into a full production design.
