I’m the CTO of a community-based marketplace in the health, wellness, and active space.

What challenge were you trying to address with Devox Software?
We needed help creating a good-looking product.

What was the scope of their involvement?
We hired Devox to help us with design. First, we had an initial call to go over brand strategy and our goals. We worked on wireframes in Figma. Once we were happy with the wireframes, we moved into high-fidelity designs. They rolled out page-by-page designs. We checked each design, gave feedback, and approved each design for our key templates.
Originally, we built our site on WordPress. We’ve since decided to create a custom site. Our platform allows users to follow people, write articles, post updates, “high-five” posts, and comment. Soon, users will be able to find experiences through our marketplace as well.
What is the team composition?
We work with Adam (CEO) initially and moved onto another point of contact once the work began.
How did you come to work with Devox Software?
I put an ad on Upwork and there were 52 applicants. We narrowed the list down to a list of the top six for interviews. In the end, we selected Devox. Their examples were beautiful. I really liked their Upwork profile too and how it was professionally presented with Clutch awards. They also had great Upwork reviews.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We get great satisfaction working with them. They help us produce a product we’re happy with as co-founders. The feedback we got from customers was really great, too. Customers get what we do and we feel like we’re really reaching our target market.
How did Devox Software perform from a project management standpoint?
We communicate through Slack, Figma, and Asana. We’re really happy with the communication. They’re very responsive.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re reliable and have good values. They’re cheap in comparison to what we’d pay locally for world-class design. You won’t get better value than Devox.

It would be great if they could align their time zones with ours. Also, there are miscommunications at times since English is their second language. Overall, they’re pretty good.

Prepare how you work with them based on the time zone that you’re in. Don’t micromanage them, they can provide a lot of advice.

We selected Devox designer team through conducting number of interviews on Upwork, freelancers & Agencies platform. The best part was that they provided us inital Prototyping of our one of the modules free of cost. We liked the design and started the contract.

After hiring the team, we had few meetings to discuss the existing bussiness flow, our design preference and references. In the first stage, Devox Team started working on UI designing. They presented us design mockups on Figma web application and we were quite comfortable with the whole process, while providing our reviews and changes for revisions through comments along the way. Once we approved the mockups, the second stage of the project started and devox team spent few days to build up UX prototyping of the design.
What was the team composition?
Initially we were provided with an Assistant Designer and a Senior designer team lead. Team designer was engaged through out the project. However We had several meetings through out the porject duration where Devox Senior Designer Team Lead particpated.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
The new UX/UI design is actually under the development process (we are implementing it in our mobile application. However we are quite happy with the UI design and user interectivity.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
Devox team would communicate using Skype through out the day with the Designer, Team Lead and the Project manager. Their correspondance was quite prompt and attitude was quite professional and friendly.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Their designing sense, availability and completion time we liked the most. Overall the team is quite professional with a very positive attitude.
Are there any areas for improvement?
Communication (english language) was minor problem with the team designer. However he understood things precisely.

We are a small career consultation company of less than 5 people which helps students and working professionals navigate the changing world of jobs by conducting workshops and providing useful resources. Despite being small, we have worked with partners to conduct workshops for schools, Fortune 500 companies and the government of Singapore. As Head of Product, I drive the vision and strategy of our products by managing and building out our website, digital tools, and online game. For what projects/services did your company hire Devox Software?
We hired Devox Software for UI/UX design of our Career Design Life Game and admin panels. The game is a life simulation where players are free to make decisions in education, careers and more. We had already created a simple prototype of our game and received feedback that it was hard to navigate and not intuitive. This turned off our users from wanting to play the game. Thus, our focus for the next build was on design and user experience.
What were your goals for this project?
We wanted to make our game engaging and intuitive for users, as they will have to play it for a career workshop for at least 1 hour. By making the design of the game and admin panels attractive, it would help us bring a new product to the market. This game used to be played in person, and because of this period of COVID-19 lockdown, the demand for online courses and workshops have skyrocketed. With this digital game, it opens up new opportunities for our company to reach more people globally.
SOLUTION
How did you select this vendor?
We used a freelance platform to search for the right team, and 24 teams and freelancers applied for the project. After analysing their reviews and conducting initial interviews, we shortlisted 4 agencies. During this stage of the selection process, we gave each of them a test task which described our game and asked for a design of 1-3 screens that solved this problem "When the player reaches the ‘Game World’ home screen, how would you guide the user to know how what to do next?" We did not want to just select the most beautiful design, but actually wanted a design partner who would be more focused on the user experience. The designers at Devox Software asked good questions while doing the test task and stood out with their thoughtful designs and deep understanding of user experience. Their combination of excellent UI/UX design, critical thinking and ability to communicate was what led us to choose them in the end.
Describe the project in detail.
The scope of the project was to redesign our game and the admin panels which will be used by us and our clients. The game is a life simulation that functions which was to be played by players from ages 16 to 60 as a native app or web app. It functions like a trivia app where the user goes through education and work and can purchase items in the shop. The team was tasked to completely reimagine the design and user experience. and to come up with something engaging for all types of players. Admin panels gave admins and facilitators the ability to create and manage games, control and customize settings, and view all player statistics and view charts and leaderboards. This was an important factor because our paying end client was the user using the admin panels, not the players. Its features like dynamic data on charts and ability to change job limits real-time was one of our unique selling points. Devox Software had to understand how the whole game was played, all the different elements that went into it, propose overall design direction (such as colour, styling etc), create wireframes, then design all screens - more than 100 screens for the game and 30 for the admin panels. They also created a clickable prototype on Figma for us to demonstrate the game to potential clients. Our involvement was to discuss and decide with them on the overall design as well as provide feedback for the screens and user flow.
What was the team composition?
We were assigned the Lead Designer of the agency who started off with ideation, design direction, strategy, user experience and flow. Due to the volume of work that we needed, we opted for a Junior Designer at a lower rate to save some costs, with the supervision of the Lead Designer. We also had the CEO of the company as an escalation point to deal with matters relating to negotiating contracts. The size of the team remained the same for the duration of the project.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
As we are still in the development stage, we have not tested it out with focus groups or played it with actual clients. Initial feedback from some users on the design was that it looked great and that they couldn't wait to play it. We also presented the clickable prototype that Devox Software created to one of our potential clients, the Ministry of Education in Singapore, who found the design appealing are interested in using it in future.
How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?
From the start of our engagement (test task during the interview process), Devox Software used Figma to present their work and collaborate on the designs. It was our first time using it and we have found it to be a very useful tool, and have continued using it for our other projects as well. We were provided time and cost estimates for the project and they mostly kept within the budgeted time and effort. During the project, it happened once where they had underestimated the effort and scale needed for the admin panels and raised this to us so we could come to a fair decision for both parties on the payment. We appreciated this transparency and the professionalism to raise this issue to the client. While the project went on for longer than we expected due to lack of time to review the designs on our end and the fact that there was no hard deadline, Devox Software delivered what we needed on schedule and continues to be helpful partners as our new developers bring their designs to life.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
I was not only impressed by their excellent work, but more so their ability to communicate and collaborate with us to find the best solution design for our product. The designers and CEO were always approachable and open to discussions on new ideas or even have hard conversations like how we can lower our cost. Furthermore, they nailed the objective of why we chose them among all the other agencies - specifically that they are experts in user experience and not just good designers. This really stood out to us throughout our project, that they truly understood our product and created a user journey that would be frictionless. They were also really fast and efficient, one step ahead of us, designing faster than we could approve! We really appreciated their quick turnaround on issues and deliverables. We are now really proud to showcase our app, largely because of the attractive design and usability, and couldn't be happier with the end result that they delivered.
Are there any areas for improvement?
I can't think of an area which could be improved in terms of the work - they were fast, thoughtful, communicative, responsive, and delivered excellent results. Of course, as a client I'm always trying to keep the cost down and would have liked to pay less, as there are definitely cheaper agencies out there. However, I think that they delivered a much higher quality we have paid for, and we are satisfied with the cost-benefit ratio of the product. We have a great working relationship and will definitely engage Devox Software for other projects in future.
