What challenge were you trying to address with Deuce Studio?

Our founder wanted to redevelop the packaging of our frozen meals because she wasn’t quite happy with it. We approached Deuce in hopes that they’d be able to help us come up with new concepts and ideas.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Deuce redeveloped our packaging. Our founder initially had a conversation with Johnny (Co-Founder & Managing Director), telling him what she wanted and what she was trying to achieve. She also wanted to know about their experience in the food industry. They then sent some packaging concepts through. 

We tweaked the designs from that point on to get to the point where we’re at now. There were also some aspects of our logo that Deuce worked on while keeping within the guidelines that our company set.

We’ve only worked with Johnny.

How did you come to work with Deuce Studio?

We found them through a website that showed people who had worked in the food industry before. I was given a list of companies to contact to get a feel of what they were like. I also talked to other people that were already in my contacts. I must have spoken to 7–8 companies before we deciding on Duece. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent around £4,500 ($6,200 USD) on their services. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them on this project from July–September 2020. We still keep in touch with them because we have lots of other requests, including advertisement-related tasks. Basically, they’re on call — if we need them, we call them.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’ve just launched our branding into a supermarket, and we’re pleased with how it stands out among others. In terms of comparing it to competitors, the packaging very much holds its own. We’re pleased with everything. 

How did Deuce Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

We didn’t have any complaints about their project management. They dealt well with the projects and delivered on time. We’d rate them high on that. I found Johnny to be approachable when we needed something done. In terms of meeting deadlines, Deuce always met them. They also had a clear price structure, so we knew what we were signing up for. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their approachability was impressive. When we call other companies, we usually get bumped off to someone else. The point of contact isn’t always the same person we’re dealing with down the line. Sometimes, that’s an issue.

However, with Deuce, we’ve always dealt with the same person who already knows our brand. They were also down to earth when I approached them at the very start. They didn’t feel too big and I didn’t feel too small like I didn’t know what I’m doing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, there aren’t any. They listened to us when we needed things to change or if we were not happy with something. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Know where you want to go, but listen to suggestions, too. It’s a good idea to be open to suggestions and know what you’re looking for. It’s good to receive suggestions but it’s also good to know where you want your brand to go.

We wanted to rebrand from our original location based festival to a new, more in-keeping with our ethos and mission statement brand.

To create a solid and recognisable brand, with consistency across multiple media, both digital and physical.

How did you select Deuce Studio?

They had done some work for a company that I worked for previously and I liked their attitude and style.

Describe the project in detail.

After an initial discovery call they created a research pack on our company and went away and mocked up various styles, once we had chosen our favourites they began to explore them further. They involved us throughout and gradually refined the designs based on our feedback. Once we were all happy they delivered style guides, logos, marketing material and website design mockups.

What was the team composition?

We had an account manager, but also had calls with multiple team members that were working on the project. I'm not entirely sure what the team composition is, but everyone we dealt with was excellent, well briefed and contributing with creative solutions.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We're a small festival so I can only really give anecdotal evidence, but our customer feedback has been prenominal. It's a strong brand that really represents what we are about as an event.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Exceptional. They were constantly in communication with us, and never missed a single milestone or deadline.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Their passion, creativity and understanding. They really took the time to understand what we were about, even attending our event to get a feel for what we do and our customer base. They delivered everything they promised and more.

Not really, we were thoroughly impressed with the process and the result.

I’m a partner and the commercial director of LVK Global. We’re a sales marketing agency focused on helping challenger brands to get to market from a sales, marketing, and distribution perspective.

What challenge were you trying to address with Deuce Studio?

Our relationship with Deuce Studio is different, we mostly work on collaborations together but they’ve also done a bit of direct work for us and our clients.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We outreach and sell the dream to brands in terms of moving into retail. Deuce Studio has supported us in bringing presentations to life or working in collaboration with their retailers. They lead on the marketing piece, and we lead on the commercial element. They do ad hoc work that can entail 2–3 slides here and there.

For one of our projects, we worked with a coffee chain. Deuce Studio created a PowerPoint for them. We wanted to create a story in regard to how the chain could work in partnership with a local supermarket chain. Our team could articulate the content but couldn’t create it ourselves to make it visually beautiful.

Deuce Studio created 4–5 slides for them to tell that story. We gave them a brief and pulled together some imagery from the client such as stock photos, logos, and images from their social responsibility report. After providing the brief, Deuce Studio imagined it and created the visual how they saw fit. Usually, we don’t have to go through many iterations because they get it right the first time.

Their team also created a brochure that features information about our business and case studies. The objective was to make us more appealing to potential brands that may want to work with us in the future.

I work directly with Jonny (Co-Founder & Managing Director) but I know there are two others on the team.

We chose them because they’re like-minded, young, and a small agency like we are. They’re agile and hungry. We’d be a small priority at a big agency, but with Deuce Studio we could be a significant part of their business.

Their work quality is strong. They’ve made us look more professional and clean. Their creativity is reflected in how we represent ourselves. Deuce Studio has a really strong background. They bring the project alive with the creation of the designs, tone of voice, and so on.

How did Deuce Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

They’re great and deliver on time. Jonny is good at keeping up with the drumbeat and driving the agenda forward. He hits all of the deadlines. They’re great at managing the pipeline as well as managing the expectations of the client and us.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their design work is really good. Deuce Studio lives and breathes their work. They’re very passionate; they work on weekends. Their team is very responsive. If I send an email on Monday, I’ll get a reply on Monday; usually within the hour.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There could be an improvement in pre-alignment efforts. There have been a couple of meetings where a couple of things were said or presented that we wouldn’t have presented just then. This applies to us as well, not just Deuce Studio. If we held some pre-meetings we could ensure we were on the same page.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’re very cost-effective. Their team is transparent, ambitious, and collaborative. They’re a dynamic business that’ll get your job done at a good price and quickly. Their quality is great. Deuce Studio acts fast and pivots quickly to consumer habit changes. Make sure you’re clear on objectives.

I am the director of a health club based in the midlands UK. We are an independent club with currently one location. We offer a wide range of fitness services and commercial gym space.

We needed help with bringing an idea to life and functionality. The whole brand needed creating from language to design & graphics etc. This brand is to form a new project that we are exploring and hope to launch in the future.

What were your goals for this project?

The goals of the project were to rebrand our current club and create something bulletproof for the future. Our aim is to grow our current business across multiple sites and rebranding was key to moving forward.

SOLUTION

How did you select Deuce Studio?

We considered an initial 10 companies which we narrowed down to 3. Once the 3 were finalised we met with each one to discuss price, ideas and how each company would approach the task in hand. The deciding factors came down to price and approachability of the guys at Deuce - They were open to ideas and focused on what we wanted out of the project.

The work started with a group discussion with myself and the three guys that made up Deuce Studio - Jonny, Richard & Matt. It was a very relaxed meeting which began with an exploration of words and images to gauge a better understanding of the styles I was drawn to and my likes & dislikes.

Their research and strategy stage came next where I was sent an in depth presentation covering all aspects from style, competition, extra services and where we'd like our brand to sit within the market.

After they had been given my feedback, each member of the team went a created their own interpretation of the project. The creative concepts were next and once each creation had been shared we agreed on which idea to move forward with. Brand Identity followed with 3 rounds of amends where I could get involved and discuss exactly what we were looking for out of this new brand.

The team were very open to take on feedback and I found this a huge positive and why I would recommend their service.

The final brand presentation was then delivered with an in depth PDF full of deliverables from font selection, brand language, imagery, colour selections and future marketing material.

What was the team composition?

I communicated mostly with Jonny, however Richard and Matt were both involved equally. They all produced their own interpretation of the project, they called me back in for a meeting so they could present each idea and from there I was asked to choose which I liked the most.

Communication remained with Jonny throughout the rebrand but it always felt like the whole team were involved equally.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are yet to launch our final brand however I am very pleased with what Deuce produced. Our work with Deuce is still to be completed which will happen at a later date. I am very much looking forward to completing the final touches of the project and launching it in the near future.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We stayed in touch via phone and questions were asked & answered easily. Communication was great and when feedback was given the team responded very well. Jonny also took the time to visit our facility to get a better understanding of the club which helped connect us and improve the direction of the branding.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

It's my first experience dealing with a vendor and I was impressed with the in depth presentations and PDF's created by Deuce. I was also impressed with their approach to understand the client and the needs of the project.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There is always room for improvement and I think they're a very young company like ourselves. I am looking forward to seeing them grow and see what other projects they produce.

After an initial consultation with Jonny (MD) where we discussed what Thames Lock are about and the services and USPs we offer, we had a longer workshop at Deuce Studio where we went into detail on branding concepts and the advantages and disadvantages of various designs/fonts/colours and how they looked and worked in different mediums (for example what works on a business card may not work on a website homepage).

This was very helpful and enlightening and we appreciated that Deuce Studio took the time to understand our company in depth in order to better tailor our brand.

SportInspired is a national award winning charity working in the top 20% deprived areas of the UK. I am a Project lead and have been working at SportInspired since 2012.

For what projects/services did your company hire Deuce Studio?

Deuce studio have helped us on a variety of different branding projects for many years, the most notable of which was the branding around 'The Youth Urban Games' in Glasgow.

What were your goals for this project?

The Youth Urban Games were Scotlands first-ever urban sports festival, featuring parkour, skateboarding and BMXing, jumps into Glasgow this summer as part of Scotland’s Year of Young People! We asked Deuce Studio to help us create a brand that would connect us to the event organisers, corporate donors and most importantly the kids taking part in the sports and the general public.

SOLUTION

How did you select Deuce Studio?

We met Deuce Studio because they worked in the same shared office space as us and when they found out what we do, they very kindly volunteered to help us with all our branding needs. What started as one quick project has turned into many years of branding and marketing support. They have been brilliant partners since day one and we are extremely happy with the work they have done for us.

Deuce Studio helped create the new brand identity for SportInspired and also various event branding campaigns, the most prestigious of which was the Youth Urban Games. They applied the brand across print and digital touchpoints, and still support us with our general marketing and design needs.

What was the team composition?

We have worked extremely closely with all three members of their team. Our main point of contact was the Managing Director Jonny, but we also worked with Rich and Matt at various points of the projects, such as digital touchpoints with Matt and strategy elements with Rich.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Since we met Deuce Studio, SportInspired have won two London Sports awards and a Corporate Engagement award and the charity has grown year on year (www.sportinspired.org). Our branding and marketing is integral to those achievements. The Youth Urban Games was also a stand out success. Over 1,000 primary school aged children took part in 10 different Urban sports and over 150 Secondary school Young leaders.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

We couldn't be more pleased. They always went above and beyond for us, always hitting deadlines, even with very last minute changes. It was almost as if they were our internal SportInspired marketing team on lots of projects, rather than an external partner. So yes, very effective.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They are fantastic to work with. All members of the team are very passionate about design and took real pride in the projects they were involved in. They understood what we were trying to achieve and created brilliant materials on every project. They are also just great people and really fun to work with. Even volunteering themselves at some of our community events.

Are there any areas for improvement?

In terms of the work they have produced for us. No, we have been extremely happy with every project. Only thing I can think of is Jonny's table tennis ;) - I don't know if he gets to read this but I hope so haha.

I’m the founder of The Urban Spice Shop. We’re a brand that sells organic spices and herbs primarily to B2C and B2B customers in the restaurant and foodservice channels. The company was founded in 2017, and we mainly sell in Singapore at this point in time.

What challenge were you trying to address with Deuce Studio?

I brought them on at the inception of our shop to handle our branding and design services.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

When we launched our foodservice range, I worked with Jonny (Co-Founder) on developing the logo, brand look and feel, and other collateral. Subsequently, we worked with them on our second launch which is the retail range.

We were quite upfront and agreed on what we wanted to do in terms of developing the logo and creating certain brand identities and features as well as labels. They were involved in the overall design of the brand and the creative aspect of it. We worked on photography as well. I come to Deuce Studio quite frequently when there are brand refreshes.

I connect with Jonny almost on a monthly basis or once every two months when there are certain things to be done. They’ve helped us create certain concepts when it comes to social media posts as well. We work very closely together.

What is the team composition?

Jonny has been handling the contract, and I liaise with him quite a lot. Beyond that, I’ve occasionally worked with Matt (Founder & Creative Partner) and Rich (Co-Founder & Creative Director).

How did you come to work with Deuce Studio?

I initially found them on Upwork. They’re a boutique team that is committed and creative, and their designs are quite simple but very impactful. I liked some of the work they had done in the past. We thought they’d be the right fit in terms of being able to meet deadlines.

How much have you invested in them?

On average, I’ve spent close to around $5,000. We’re a small brand and have a limited marketing budget so we tend to work with them less.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our ongoing engagement started in October 2017.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They were an integral part of the brand launch. The logo is quite powerful, and we’ve received a lot of great feedback with some of the designs they’ve done. People love the packaging we did for both the foodservice and retail sides. People find it to be very attractive and express that the logo leaves a lasting impression.

From a budget perspective, they’ve always kept to the budget and that is good. The team has been quite good at promising something and then delivering. From a deadline perspective, we’ve always been able to meet deadlines and that has been something that I haven’t had to worry about at all.

How did Deuce Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

I’ve had no issues whatsoever from a project management perspective. Deuce Studio has even done services like photography, which isn’t one of their main services, but with my brand, they supported me in those aspects as well. They’ve been great business partners to work with.

Even with me being based in Singapore, there have never been issues with the time and location difference. We have had a great relationship with their team, and it has been great. From a project management perspective, they have gone above and beyond in trying to bring certain things to life.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their professionalism is right up there. I really like working with them which is why I’ve continued to do so. Deuce Studio is very creative. They spend a lot of time and effort when it comes to doing a project, making sure that it’s done really well. From a design perspective, I find the designs to be quite attractive and very appealing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

From a business perspective, they could look at more business avenues to improve their portfolio. This could include doing web development or digital media and things like that but that depends on whether they want to or not. Beyond that, there isn’t much they need to improve upon.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

The main thing is to be very clear about what the project goals are and what needs to be done. You just have to explain it to the team very clearly and then collaborate and work together. They’re very engaging and are quite supportive. If you lay out what you need and what your goals are, it’ll be easier to work with them.

I am the brand director of an emergency supplies company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Deuce Studio?

We worked with Deuce Studio on two different projects. The first one was packaging for a brand new consumer product and the other one was upgrading the packaging for our flagship product.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started with an overview call. I worked with Johnny (Co-Founder) and I gave him the idea of what our brand was about and presented to him the pillars of our brand that we’d already established and that we wanted to hold true to. I also talked about what the new product was going to be and what we were looking to accomplish there from a perspective standpoint. 

The second product was very similar. We had an open-ended conversation about the vibe that we were looking for. I talked to their designers and spoke a little bit casually about what I was looking for and they presented it into something practical and actionable. 

We work in emergency preparedness and it was really focused on approachability, so the first product was an everyday sanitizer set. It contained a simple set of tools that became pretty useful in the last year, around personal hygiene. It was a bundle of disposable masks, sanitizers, sanitizing surface wipes, and facial tissues that were prepackaged. The second product was in the category packaging inside of our emergency kits. 

There was some branding work involved, but they didn’t create our brand from scratch. However, they did take our existing brand and helped us put together the basis and the grand principles for an everyday product line. More importantly, we’re about to launch a third project with them. 

What is the team composition?

We only worked with Johnny. He was my point of contact throughout the whole project and the only person I interacted with.

How did you come to work with Deuce Studio?

We knew we wanted to come up with a packaging design and we wanted to work with a graphic designer that could do some high quality work. I went to my network and ended up conversing with another business owner that I respect. She had worked with Deuce Studio on packaging previously, and recommended them and put me in touch. 

How much have you invested with them?

We probably spent $8,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

Our partnership ran from April 2020–January 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

It was really easy to work with them. They were very punctual and their communication was really topnotch which was exactly what I was looking for. They were able to deliver and follow through on what they say they could do. The team followed the set timeframe and they were highly responsive. It was just easy to plan around with Deuce Studio.

The team came up with a good and high-quality design, and it was really effective. Their ability to have a conversation around with the vibe that we were looking for and turning it into something concrete made the communication piece excellent. 

How did Deuce Studio perform from a project management standpoint?

We kept in touch through email and video calls. I’m in California and they’re based in London, so there was a pretty big time difference. By the time I start my day, I could already give feedback on something since the team worked while I was sleeping. However, that could’ve been a challenge too, but it never was, because they were professional throughout. The success of our relationship was really due to them being highly organized and professional, which I highly appreciated. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their ability to have a conversation about a vibe or a feeling and turning it into something tangible was their biggest skill set. They listen well and interpret what we said, and created it into the actual design — probably the most important skill set for a designer to have. Johnny did a really good job of understanding our core goals, and he asked good questions, and he was able to iterate it into the right answers. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t think this is applicable to Deuce Studio only, and this may be a challenge with a lot of designers as well — some of them may feel like they’ve not gone past the scope of work agreed upon until it’s already happened. I’ve worked with designers that have given me a good sense of what they want to bid out a project based on, but the important piece is letting the client know that they’re getting the end of that, instead of being charged extra. I think it’s probably common for designers, but it’s something that creates challenges with the client.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

They’re great. Just have ad hoc feedback on a regular basis. They were very flexible and they really tailored the experience for me.
