Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m one of the owners of a licensed cannabis manufacturer based in California. We make essential oils from cannabis flowers and package them to be sold to retailers.

What challenge were you trying to address with David L. Moonie & Co., LLP?

We needed assistance preparing for year-end tax filing.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We do our own bookkeeping through QuickBooks. They help us with filing taxes and are also there to consult with us if we had more complex questions regarding bookkeeping or payroll.

I’m in contact with Aaron (CPA).

How did you come to work with David L. Moonie & Co., LLP?

I originally began working with them at a previous cannabis business I was at. I initially found them because they’re located in the same city as us. Additionally, when I asked around to see which businesses were comfortable working with cannabis companies, their name came up.

Cannabis companies have different deductions and regulations that need to be followed, so it was important that we found someone who understood that.

How much have you invested with them?

We spend about $800 each year.

What is the status of this engagement?

They’ve been doing our yearly taxes since we started our business in 2018, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re a small business and some of the different rules and regulations around filing taxes for a cannabis-based business went a bit over our heads. Having their expertise has been very beneficial.

How did David L. Moonie & Co., LLP perform from a project management standpoint?

They performed well. Aaron is responsive and gets back to us quickly via phone or email. We also meet in-person frequently since our businesses are within walking distance of each other.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re extremely responsive, even when they’re busy. Our CPA also explains things in a way that we can understand and when we run into roadblocks, he always offers us multiple solutions.
