Datateer took a bit longer than we expected, but the delay was largey the fault of us in giving them access to our AWS account. Yes, Datateer did deliver the data model and ETL pipeline.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Datateer's deep knowledge of data engineering was impressive. They also were great about teaching us to be internal advocates for data engineering best practices

Are there any areas for improvement or something Datateer could have done differently?

Being clear up-front that clients do NOT "own all the code" that Datateer writes – that was a quote I somehow remember (but may have mis-remembered). There is a distinction between DBT data model code (SQL), which we do get to see transparently as a client, versus the orchestration software that we can't "plug-and-play" on our own. As a business model, it makes sense and I totally understand it. But it wasn't clear to us until a few months into the relationship.

Datateer fully manages my BI stack from engineering to product development. The early conversations started by meeting with the owner and sharing a list of items that I wanted to include in my product. 

During this conversation, we used their quoting tool which was a very transpartent way of showing the costs associated with each data source and metric. After collectively narrowing down which deliverables we were going to focus on in the first round of development, we signed a contract and have been working together since.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

All project work is tracked in tickets with estimated time for completion. We have weekly meetings reviewing the status of outstanding work and talk on slack as needed to move each item along.

This was answered in the last question - each project objective is tracked in a ticket with estimated date of completion. These items are consistently delivered on time or before the expected due date.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Their ability to meet you where you are and their non-traditional operating model. From day 1, I felt a connection with the Datateer team, and they have made significant efforts to understand my business needs and vision. 

Their expertise has helped me narrow my focus on what deliverables help them do their job more effectively so I can focus on other matters of the business. Whenever we need to talk through something, we huddle on Slack and hash it out quickly. Being able to move fast is important and they have the mechanisms in place to do just that.

Datateer was outstanding to work with. They delivered on time and took great care to understand our individual customer needs. I would recommend Datateer to anyone looking for data work in similar areas. When third party vendors of ours eliminated their own ability to meet our needs, Datateer created and entire matrix of alternatives to help us choose the best so we could carry on with our project. 
The third party they helped us choose was a great replacement. It took a lot of work and stress away from us as the client.
