Their project management is excellent. The team exceeds our expectations regarding delegation and collaboration and ensures we're on time and within budget. Both of the applications under development involve complex workflows for both event participants, organizers and staff at our organization. We had identified specific problems in those workflows and itemized each one. Datarockets worked with us to design solutions and then implemented them for us.

I am the COO of Stomex: the student home exchange platform

Stomex is a platform that facilitates cheap short-term travel for students and new grads (within 3 years since graduation). We’re looking to create a platform that rivals things like airbnb, but for students. Current platforms and hotels are too expensive, and we also are discriminated against for being “partiers” and “messy”. How our platform will work is that students can host other students while they are away from their student home. 

In exchange for hosting, they will earn points that they can then spend traveling to others’ student homes. Students are already away from their student homes often and overpaying on rent (think reading week, holidays, winter break, summers, and random weekends). Stomex lets people be rewarded when they are away. With the points system, all exchanges are free and unlimited as long as you continue to host someone and earn points. 

We’re looking to create a community built on trust with students and new grads. Students can connect with others’ profiles, request to stay, and message each other. We’re looking to implement cool features that build trust in the platform. 

Some of these include a matchmaking compatibility feature to connect hosts and guests of similar interests, and a “friends of friends” feature that connects people who have common friends. Hosts will be able to easily approve and decline guests based on their preference so they feel comfortable.

Within this app we want to add a section that will allow all users to initiate EV charging sessions and pay within our app. This will focus on the integration of the HyperCharge platform with payment being handled through the Moneris platform. 
Account holders with visitor access will also have the ability to purchase parking for sites that do require visitors to pay for parking. Multi-Pass Users ParkCo is introducing new user account types: Primary and Secondary Users. 
Datarockets will need to ensure the app provides specific features and develop new UI for these new account types.Features include the following:

I’m the director of product management at a software development company.

Our company was interested in conducting AI experiments and their use cases for our customers. For context, our customers and internal team had a lot of questions about our platform. Even the teammates who had worked a long time in our company still had questions about the features we had. We wanted to create an AI companion to answer those questions to help us decrease costs and move faster. We hired datarockets to do that work.

What was the scope of their involvement?

I initially shared my ideas with datarockets, alongside the problems I wanted to solve. The team educated me on what was possible and recommended some solutions. For instance, I thought about creating a web page, but they suggested creating a Slack bot. 

From there, datarockets developed the solution from scratch. They built a dashboard where I could connect our company’s information with the AI. That meant I could connect internal documents to the solution so that users could understand our platform. From there, they created a Slack both that I could use to answer questions from the entire company. They used LLMs and Langchain to build the AI.

We had thousands of interactions with the AI solution and over 500 internal users. The MVP was released only to internal users, but we’d probably get more users if we released it to customers, too. Overall, datarockets delivered high-quality work. It exceeded my expectations.

They met deadlines and stayed on budget. To communicate, they invited me to their private Slack channel. We also had video calls on Google Meet for more in-depth conversations.

datarockets has helped us with everything from design to development. We’ve used Figma in the design phase. For the development, we’ve used Ruby on Rails, React, and Next.js. 

In terms of features and functionality, the product is a B2B SaaS platform that is heavy on integrations. It can do things such as uploading and downloading documents and files. It can also be integrated with software solutions while displaying and interacting with data. The datarockets team has performed a lot of API development for it. Moreover, they’ve done a fair amount of infrastructure configuration.

The team has grown from two teammates originally to 6–7 teammates now. These include engineers, frontend developers, a project manager, and a designer.

We were looking for an outsourced development team, so I reached out to my professional network and asked if they knew a development agency. I found around five companies from that, including datarockets. We went through 3–4 calls as part of our vetting process and eventually settled on them.

datarockets’ work and communication skills are high-quality. They prioritize and organize development tasks, so their processes are strong. I’m a fan of the way they communicate and how transparent they are. We use emails, Zoom, and Slack to communicate and Jira and Asana to manage the project. They deliver on time and within budget, and their work rarely has bugs. Overall, their team is probably the best I’ve seen in outsourcing agencies.

Their communication and organizational skills are great. They’re great at communicating their plans and what they’re doing every day. They have a highly organized approach.

Can you share any measurable outcomes of the project or general feedback about the deliverables?

Datarockets developed a cross platform mobile application as an MVP which was successfully launched with only a week delay. They have assigned a number of developer and a product manager who continued to develop new features to gradually transition to a fully finished product.

Their PM style was very efficient and as a result have improved our internal product management processes. We learned a lot from their approach and adopted several tools and methodologies. They have a great ability to write specifications and use agile methodologies to develop features within the necessary timeline with relatively small and infrequent deviation from the roadmap.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

We were impressed with their consistency and almost 24/7 availability to address bugs and other time sensitive issues. Their level of organization and meticulous planning as well as inline comments Inside the code made it very easy to extend and maintain the software.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

They should have been more aggressive to convince us to reduce the scope of certain features which in retrospect we should have scrapped or built differently.
