I currently oversee all of sales and distribution for a rapidly growing CBD company in a quickly evolving industry.

We worked with ContractsCounsel for a few projects, both internal contracts with our sales reps as well as the preliminary contract work for international distribution of our products.

I found them online through a quick search.

We needed to 'tighten' up our internal contracts a bit. As a startup, you begin with the basics and try to not overcomplicate things. As we quickly grew in both head count and revenue, it was necessary to contract out the revision of our internal agreements.

With his grown, we saw the opportunity arise in several countries to potentially export the products we sell; and ContractsCounsel was invaluable in helping find someone to navigate foreign language distribution contracts. Spanish, French, German to be specific.

The cost structure was easy given the nature of our project; it wasn't a ton of paperwork to translate so we were offered a flat, nominal fee that was well within our budget.

How would you describe/assess the quality of their work?

A+.

What impressed you about their services?

The response time, overall feeling of support and customer service, and knowing that we were working with people who understand the space. At no point did I feel we weren't a priority client despite the minimal nature of our work. It was apparent the team really values interactions with their clients.

Are there any areas for improvement?

A referral program would be amazing because I'm going to be sending all my colleagues, acquaintances, and contacts I know who are in need of similar services - to ContractsCounsel.

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the COO at a consumer subscription box business. We send out quarterly boxes with beach-inspired apparel and retail items.

What challenge were you trying to address with ContractsCounsel?

We were seeking translation services for vendors with an overseas presence. Contracts with international vendors needed to be translated, and we also required some Spanish translation for digital and email.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

In their content and legal translations, ContractsCounsel delivered both generous and strict interpretations. We'd communicate exactly what documents we were working through, and they also provided insight into how to convey our brand effectively. They interpreted around 6 contracts.

They also went the extra length to check through our other tasks, like testing out Spanish messaging. They aligned our brand voice with the audiences we were addressing.

What is the team composition?

Although I dealt directly with their project manager, I worked with 2–3 people in total including the translators.

How did you come to work with ContractsCounsel?

I landed on their web page and happened to know somebody there. We decided to give them a try since their platform and service offerings seemed promising.  

How much have you invested with them?

We spent somewhere between $500–$1000 dollars.

What is the status of this engagement?

The engagement lasted from July–August 2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

They were really knowledgeable and paid great attention to detail. They were able to ensure that our voice was culturally appropriate, both to the brand and to the segment we were trying to appeal to.

It was our first experience with a formal process like working through a contract review, so they were really helpful and patient. We were never waiting for them, and they promptly solved our problems. Their platform enabled us to collaborate with them in an efficient way.

With all their services, we would have expected them to be more expensive—it was a very pleasant engagement.

How did ContractsCounsel perform from a project management standpoint?

Communication was very effective and efficient, so we were able to get quick solutions. We felt that the ContractsCounsel team understood our needs. They’d also catch things we didn’t notice before, and would even give us suggestions. With their management, we felt confident we were moving in the right direction.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re different from other firms in that they’re not trying to squeeze price per word. They’re very clear-cut and straightforward, which I really appreciated.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t really think of anything.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be aligned with them as a team, and begin the engagement by being prepared to present your business needs and problems. Make sure to have your priorities straight. They’ll work with you very nicely once you iron that out.
