ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has stabilized the firmware and hardware of a sports timing equipment company to achieve a sales-ready MVP. The team has fixed various errors, crashes, and issues and modified 20 hardware sets.
Thanks to ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP's efforts, the client has released a functional product, made initial sales, and reduced system errors to a minimum. The team has managed the project well despite some health issues affecting delivery. Moreover, they are diligent, complementary, and experienced.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I'm the CEO of a company that designs and manufactures state-of-the-art UHF and HF RFID decoder hardware, timing mats and antennas, and transponders used for sports timing applications like marathon running, triathlon, open water swimming, cycling, adventure races, trail running, and novelty events.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP?
We needed help stabilizing the firmware and hardware to achieve a sales-ready MVP after our internal development team had failed to achieve this. It was a big ask to understand, learn, and rework the firmware and hardware to meet these objectives.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed the firmware and hardware. Regarding the firmware, the team has fixed flash corruption, LittleFS failures, and a corrupted file system that required a full filesystem replacement. The team has also resolved memory-full errors where logs consumed all space and expanded timing file log allocation from 30% to 50%. Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed bugs where deleting timing files could remove the active log and stop HTTP transmission. The team has also addressed FS_ERR_NOMEM errors and FS_CLEAR commands halting the system mid-read.Additionally, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed HTTP POST not sending instantaneously (ignoring 200ms delay). The team has also resolved TLS errors posting to China endpoint, DNS recovery failures, and multiple ESP_ERR_HTTP_CONNECT / ESP_ERR_HTTP_EAGAIN errors. Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has made HTTP skip attempts when no internet route exists. The team has also fixed Ethernet not being set as the primary interface and P2P static IP with DHCP issues. The team has also enabled SNTP time sync over all internet routes (not just cellular). Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed crashes during shutdown/reboot when charging and incorrect charging LED behavior. The team has also resolved the device not rebooting into ON state when the charger is connected. The team has also addressed general power consumption issues and multiple power state crash scenarios.Furthermore, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed full-status JSON not matching spec (missing fields/values). The team has also added configuration packets to HTTP send and device serial to keep-alive packets. The team has also fixed incremental status triggers and charger connect/disconnect events. Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has corrected hash calculation bugs for HF/UHF when only one record is sent.Additionally, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed timezone and UTC offset display errors across telemetry and timing records. The team has also fixed configuration defaults (endpoints, records-to-send, cellular modes, auto time correction via GPS + SNTP). The team has also fixed file management: wrong files being deleted, no delete confirmation. Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has added manual time set, replay commands, buzzer off, dropdown menus, and static/dynamic IP documentation. The team has also fixed company password field, negative TZ offset handling, and various label/text issues. Moreover, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has resolved Guru Meditation crash from repeated ESP_ERR_INVALID_STATE. The team has also fixed chronic I2C failures causing fatal panics and permanent cellular modem loss. The team has also addressed system crash at boot and ESP_ERR_ESP_NETIF_INVALID_PARAMS errors.Furthermore, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed OTA updates clearing user settings (friendly name, RFID module type). The team has also resolved OTA finalization errors and default config issues. The team has also fixed RTC 15-hour time error in new config packets, antenna detect threshold, and device name registration on routers.Regarding hardware, ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP has fixed a fuel gauge safety fault and a critical issue where the device wouldn't charge after running flat. The team has also modified 20 hardware sets and returned them to Australia for assembly.
What is the team composition?
We work with 2–5 teammates from ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP.
How did you come to work with ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP?
We found ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP through an online search. We chose them because they had experience in the development of hardware and firmware for sports and medical equipment that was closely aligned with our needs.
How much have you invested with them?
We've spent an undisclosed amount of money.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP in May 2025, and our engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We've released a functional product, and initial sales have begun. Device stability has become 100% from a base of about 10%. We've also sold 20 units so far, and system errors have been reduced to minimal to zero.
How did ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management is good. It's impossible to specify the endpoint, as we didn't know how bad the situation was to begin with. The project has been delivered about 6–8 months later than I would have hoped, but this hasn't been because of ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP. There have been some health issues of key staff that have affected delivery to a small degree, but to their credit, they've worked through them.We communicate with ByteSpectrum Technologies LLP through virtual meetings, emails, ClickUp, and messaging apps.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I'm impressed by their diligence and capability. The team is highly complementary to my project management skills, and we work very well together. They're also mature in their approach and have a lot of prior personal experience to call on.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could update ClickUp more proactively so that I'm better positioned to report start dates and progress to my board, rather than me having no real answer to questions of 'when will it be ready?'. Having said this, after being given feedback, ByteSpectrum improved in this area.
