I am the CEO of an advanced materials company in Nova Scotia.

What challenge were you trying to address with Bereskin & Parr LLP?

Our company needed assistance with intellectual property management.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Bereskin & Parr helps us file patents and develop our intellectual property strategy.

When we started the engagement, I provided one of their lawyers with the company background he needed. They then built out the intellectual property strategy to suit our needs.

Now, we are conducting scientific research, and Bereskin & Parr are filing patents and executing our intellectual property strategy. 

What is the team composition?

I work with a few teammates from Bereskin & Parr, including a patent lawyer and an associate. I also interact with a support team that includes administrative teammates and patent clerks. 

How did you come to work with Bereskin & Parr LLP?

I connected with Bereskin & Parr when one of their lawyers did an educational seminar in my town. 

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested over $150,000 CAD (approximately $118,500 USD) with Bereskin & Parr thus far. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with Bereskin & Parr in August 2018 and our engagement is ongoing. 

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The only metrics we measure are focused on meeting international patent filing deadlines — thus far, we haven’t missed a single deadline. 

How did Bereskin & Parr LLP perform from a project management standpoint?

Bereskin & Parr is on top of communicating timelines and gives us ample time to adjust our filings to ensure we meet filing deadlines. 

Generally, we communicate with Bereskin & Parr via emails and phone calls. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

The senior counsel and patent attorneys at Bereskin & Parr are very skilled in the industry our company works in — they’re great to work with. Both of our attorneys have chemistry backgrounds that make communicating the scientific results of our work very easy. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any feedback so far, and there is still a lot of time before we’ll see the full benefit of their work. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I would advise customers to work with Bereskin & Parr to develop a patent strategy, not just use their services to dictate patent filings. They steered us in the right direction when it came to our strategy — their talent is extremely valuable to customers.
