I'm the director of digital marketing in the Americas for Nu Skin, a direct selling skin care company.

What challenge were you trying to address with Big Leap?

In our Latin American markets, particularly in Argentina, we had somewhat of a negative reputation online from a misleading article about our products that was performing well on Google. We were looking for a vendor that could help manage and improve our online reputation after working with other vendors that were unable to produce results.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Big Leap oversees our digital strategy, creating daily and weekly calendars for content production and posting, including blogs, infographics, and social media. After their writers create the content, our team reviews it for final approval. They've also made changes to our website and metadata and created keywords lists for us to focus on. 

What is the team composition?

We work directly with about five people regularly, including an account manager.

How did you come to work with Big Leap?

I worked with one of their owners a long time ago at a different company and knew I could trust his work. Although we considered others, we decided to go with Big Leap based on their expertise and ability to work in Latin American markets.

How much have you invested with them?

We've invested about $100,000 thus far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in September 2017 and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Big Leap has taken complete ownership and helped turn around our online reputation for the better. They've significantly improved our ranking on Google in previously challenging markets. Their work in Argentina has had a positive impact in other surrounding markets.

Other agencies we've worked with haven't been able to budge our online position, so we're very happy with the results thus far. It's helping our leadership team overcome issues involving prospective employees or purchasers of our products.

How did Big Leap perform from a project management standpoint?

They're very good about reporting what they're working on as they progress, keeping us updated in weekly meetings and in almost daily communications. They also meet with us in person to provide a monthly overview report, which has been very helpful for our executive team.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They're experts in their field and good about figuring out how to solve client challenges. They also have great resources and are able to source the right staff quickly when needed. From our experience, Big Leap's approach is ahead of the times, especially in Argentina. Other vendors we'd worked with were applying strategies that were very dated and didn't work as well.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you're new to this type of work, I'd suggest setting up a contract that allows for some flexibility to try out Big Leap's services and approach before committing to a long term relationship.

I'm the CMO at purple.com. We sell mattresses, sheets, mattress protectors, and other comfort products. We started our company two years ago and we've been growing very rapidly.

What challenge were you trying to address with Big Leap?

The mattress industry is very competitive and there are hundreds of companies trying to rank for the same keywords and pitch their products. It’s difficult to stand out since companies sell similar products. We needed a partner to help us create content and drive organic traffic to our website.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We've had Big Leap on a retainer for almost two years. We started with SEO and then expanded their contract, so they now focus on digital PR, link building, SEO audits, and traditional SEO. They’ve helped boost our brand and got us some valuable mentions in well-known sources. It's a very collaborative process and they've become part of our team. Their digital PR improves our SEO rankings and brings us media attention and sales. They also create content for our blog and our landing pages, helping us with tags, keywords, and links to those pages.

What is the team composition?

We've worked with 4–5 members of their team, including our day-to-day lead and the CEO.

How did you come to work with them?

We met through networking (Utah is the highest trending state for SEO and almost everybody knows each other.) Also, they're one of the top 2–3 companies in the state.

We started working with them in July 2016 and the relationship is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We didn't have a brand two years ago, but now we're the most-searched-for mattress company in the country. Our YouTube videos are very popular and our brand is recognized. Our customers like our content and feel that it's unique.

Big Leap has been able to match our voice with our content, making it fun and quirky. We wanted to sound approachable and friendly and Big Leap helped us accomplish that, making us stand out among other mattress brands.

How did they perform from a project management standpoint?

They're above average. We had monthly in-person meetings and talked over the phone or email every week. They did a good job, but we had to change people a couple of times.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Many companies say they're flexible, but in the end, they follow their routine and their own process. Big Leap worked with us and became an extension of our team. They're very experienced, so we don’t have to spend our time editing the content they produce.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The results have been fantastic, but their project management could use some improvement.

Not that I can think of. They have taken a technically difficult subject on which they are experts and made it easy for less technical people to understand.

Originally hired Big Leap to improve our Google Ads lead generation and our SEO rankings. We did a discovery call with Big Leap and they stated that they would be able to improve the number of conversions we were getting as well as drive efficiencies across our ppc campaigns. Additionally, they believed that they could optimize our content and webiste for SEO to help us improve our ranking to the first page on google.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Big Leap stated that they would be able to help us generate more conversions at a more efficient spend for our google ads and also improve our overall ranking for SEO to the first page. After 6 months of having them work on our campaigns not only did they not meet these expectations but drastically underperformed in all areas. Our google ads conversions saw a huge drop and our cost per customer acquisition drastically increased. When we communicated with Adam our account manager it seemed as though he was out of touch with what our business actually did. At one point they suggested a landing page to help increase conversions. When they delivered the landing page it was for an industry that we did not even provide services for. Adam made promise after promise about the strategies working and that we just needed to stay the course. After 6 months of broken promises we have generated less than 10 leads through our organic traffic from their SEO efforts. Additionally, our cost per customer acquisition went up by 10x with their strategies. After discontinuing services with Big Leap we had another company audit our campaigns and we had dozens of keywords that were not even relevant to our service industry. We had complained about disquailified leads but had not idea that Big Leap was actually putting marketing spend torwards these non qualified calls. Overall, I would not recommend for either google ads management or SEO. Big Leap was supposed to help us improve over the previous agency we used for marketing but had I known what this experience would have been like I would have steered clear! Save your money and time and find a different agency.

They were ok at getting the deliverables to us on time but what good is getting a deliverable if it provides sub par results. The one instance where they provided us a landing page resulted in them sending us a proof for a industry that we did not provide services for. When asked how this happened they stated it was accidental oversight. I think accidental oversight is how they managed most of our marketing efforts.

We had dozens of meetings and each week we saw major short comings in the efforts and results. Our cost per customer acquisition went up by over 10x using their services. This is the opposite direction of what was expected. I would much rather have spent time and efforts with a different agency.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

I think that it is impressive that they have been able to provide services for such large companies while providing such poor results. It is very possible that they just dedicate resources to the biggest spenders and due to that the companies which have less spend just get pushed to the back of the line resulting in the poor results we received.

Our business has seen a drastic decrease in overall leads and sales resulting in a huge decrease of revenue. I would not recommend this agency to anyone looking to market their business.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Big Leap could have done differently?

They could have studied our website to better understand what services we provide rather than just spitball keywords that have no relevance to our industry. I am confident that I could have hired a first time ads manager and had better results with less spend.
