I am a project manager for Global Data Systems LLC. Our company focuses on developing solutions for businesses, including automation systems, web ­services, and mobile applications. We have successfully partnered with and supported many customers.

For what projects/services did your company hire Wave 909?

Our customer had an outdated mobile application for their retail business. We hired Wave909 to make significant updates to the application.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to increase the functionality of the mobile application, change its design, and improve its usability. We also wanted to publish it on both Google Play and the App Store.

We got to know Vadim (Founder and Frontend Developer, Wave909) and his team by personal recommendation.

Describe the project in detail.

The existing application was not well-designed for updates, so Wave909 developed the new app almost from scratch for both Android and iOS, building both platforms on React Native. We had a number of iterations and we’re still working. They defined requirements and worked with our client, implementing features and preparing for launch. They integrated online product ordering and payment processing, notifications, and other features.

What was the team composition?

I have only communicated with Vadim, who presented the design layouts and implementation results. We also discussed the problems that we faced while testing with him.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

Their work has increased the app’s value and reliability. They satisfied all of our internal client’s requirements so far, and that client wants to continue working together. We can tell they delivered high-quality work based on our internal testing process. Our QA found very few bugs.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Their workflow was clear and established, and it was easy to meet our deadlines working together. Vadim was always available on-call, so I have only pleasant impressions from our work.

They’re fast, they consider problems thoughtfully, and they’re young at heart.

They could use more experience, and I expect they’ll get it with more projects.

I’m a software engineer at CleanTalk. We provide a cloud-based, invisible spam protection service for websites, eliminating the need for CAPTCHAs. We also provide a number of other web security and development-related products.

What challenge were you trying to address with AutoExec.App?

We needed to structure our code base and optimize performance in one of our key applications.

What was the scope of their involvement?

AutoExec.App’s founder listened to our developers talk about the project, their tasks, and workflow. He also reviewed the code base, the product itself, and some merge requests. Then, Vadim provided us with several talks and a number of documents with his vision of our roadmap for this project to thrive. Some improvements were done by our developers while the collaboration was still going, and a lot more were done later. Some are still to be implemented.The most important deliverable was a roadmap highlighting the importance of different tasks, their role, and their priority in the big picture. There were also some general recommendations about good and bad architectural patterns from his experience, advice on technology and team structure, and some Q&A sessions with our developers.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

After we started implementing Vadim’s suggestions, our app started working a lot faster. We got rid of some annoying problems we had. The engineering team said that the recommendations were great and the app greatly benefited from them from their perspective. The problematic page we were using as a metric for the app’s performance started loading 2.5 times faster. We also saw a reduced number of errors when testing the releases. The developers said they now understand the app development plan a lot better.

They delivered on time. We communicated via virtual meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Vadim has unique experience with a wide diversity of topics he has expertise in. His perspective and vision provide a lot of insights to work with. He sees a lot of potential caveats and knows how to navigate them. I think every team can benefit from hearing what he has to say.

The goal was to review the whole mobile product - development processes, technical platform, code, everything - to figure out what should we improve and what additional steps should we do to achieve our company goals in terms of mobile product.

As a result we received a batch of pull requests with improvements, 20 pages of recommendations - very specifiс. Even more guys proposed a solution to reuse code in both mobile and web platforms, so their expertise in react and react native is very strong!

We’re satisfied with the results so far, and we plan to perform a field test in the summer of 2019.
