I’m the CTO of Flexware Innovation, a manufacturing technology integrator. I oversee our product development organization.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3XM Group?

We had a lot of product roadmap in front of us, and our team was already constrained. Although we were all busy, we wanted to increase the speed of our product development organization, so we hired 3XM Group to provide us with software developers to augment our team.

What was the scope of their involvement?

3XM Group provides us with staff augmentation for custom software development. We use an iterative Agile development process; we have two-week sprints where the team develops and releases features. The 3XM Group team has joined our existing product team and integrated into this process. 

Initially, we provided them with requirements for the technical skills and technologies we were looking for. Our requirements included that the teammates be in our same time zone and be English speakers. As for technologies, we were looking for JavaScript, React, Redux, and some modern frontend development technologies and experiences. 

3XM Group did the first round of vetting and ensured the resources would suit our needs. Then, they gave us an opportunity to interview the candidates. Once the resources joined our team, we handled knowledge transfer to bring them up to speed on our product. 

Our software product is in the market, so 3XM Group adds additional features. They work with our existing documentation, design, and requirements. Once they finish their development, we go through a QA and testing process to verify that everything works appropriately. 

The product is a manufacturing intelligence system. 3XM Group has worked on visual tools to allow users to configure the system as it's deployed inside manufacturing facilities. 3XM Group has built features that enable facilities to define users and what those users have access to and define configuration on the kinds of data that the system will collect. The team primarily uses JavaScript, and the product's backend is in C#.

We have two developers as billable resources on our project. 3XM Group also provides a project manager. 

How did you come to work with 3XM Group?

3XM Group's CEO stuck up a conversation with our CEO 3–4 years ago, and they stayed in touch, looking for an opportunity to work together. Halfway through 2022, we found that opportunity and reached out to 3XM Group, and it worked out that they had the type of resources we were looking for.

We've spent roughly $160,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with them in June 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

3XM Group’s recruitment process has been 100% successful; the first two resources we’ve brought in have worked very well with our internal team. 

Our internal metrics are focused on feature delivery. Each feature has a different size and magnitude, and 3XM Group has successfully accomplished what we’ve set out to do in each sprint. The product features they’ve built are now available in the product after going through formal QA and release processes. 

Moreover, 3XM Group’s developers are indistinguishable from our own product development team. They ask good questions, provide good feedback, and ultimately deliver the features we ask them to. 

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We manage the project on our side and meet with 3XM Group’s project manager monthly to verify that the team is doing well and there aren’t issues. 

Meanwhile, the developers work with our cadence of two-week sprint planning sessions and weekly stand-up meetings. The team does a great job of staying on task, meeting our timeline expectations, and raising issues when there are any. 

We use Azure DevOps to manage the code, sprints, and tasks. As for communication, we’ve asked 3XM Group to adapt to our system, so they use Microsoft Teams for daily discussions and working sessions. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Using external developers is a new experience for us, so it’s very important that 3XM Group’s team works in the same time zone. This way, they collaborate within the same working sessions we already had. 3XM Group also has good English speakers and the technical competencies we were looking for. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any constructive feedback for 3XM Group. On our side, the challenge is staying in front of them with clear requirements and providing designs and significant content. They’ve been developing features quickly, and we’ve struggled to stay in front of them, which we’ve improved to support them. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

My advice is to follow the process. We have monthly partnership calls with 3XM Group to monitor the project’s status, which works well.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3XM Group?

We needed help with implementing our software and platform for one of our clients, as well as with said platform’s cloud hosting, so we reached out to 3XM Group.

What was the scope of their involvement?

3XM Group helped us implement our software into our client’s environment and set up its cloud hosting based on the platform’s architecture and information. Initially, we had a kick-off meeting with the client to start the project, and we also had some discovery sessions to understand the technology requirements and skill sets required. From there, we had two additional meetings to deliver the project.

We worked with 4–5 people from 3XM Group, including a project manager, the CEO, the CTO, and other technical resources.

One of my colleagues found them, and they communicated a few times before signing a contract.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together on the project from May–November 2022; it was a six-month project. However, we kept working with them on other things until January 2023.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Although we don’t have metrics to demonstrate impact, the engagement with 3XM Group was great, and everything they did was clearly done.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

3XM Group delivered the project on time and within our budget, and our communication was great. We established a Slack channel with the three parties involved — Smile Digital Health, 3XM Group, and our client. Additionally, we communicated via email and phone calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

3XM Group’s adherence to deadlines and constant communication were great. Additionally, they were very knowledgeable.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t think of anything they could have improved on.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

3XM Group successfully delivered recommendations for our app's refactoring. On the FHIR® side, they provided the architecture we'll use. Currently, we're getting ready to reengage 3XM Group for the next step of our app's rewrite.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They delivered on time. We had weekly checkpoints with at least one phone call where they reviewed the milestones from the previous weeks. On prior engagements, we had two phone calls a week because they made so much progress. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I appreciated their project management model.

Are there any areas they could improve?

On our first engagement, we had a bit of a disconnect on our side in terms of giving them complete requirements. By our latest engagement, we knew what each other needed to make the project successful, and 3XM Group didn't have any shortcomings.

I’m an IT corporate manager at a refrigeration equipment manufacturing company. One of our services is engineering to order, so we need to be able to show our clients our equipments before they’re finished.

What challenges were you trying to address with  3XM Group?

We were looking to develop a solution to help us in our commercial area to display more accurately all the equipment we manufacture. Also, we wanted to create a tool to guide our employees during maintenance processes.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We initially provided 3XM Group with all the information regarding our designs. They built the platform from scratch based on different cloud-based applications for rendering, .NET, and HoloLens, among other technologies.                              

What was the team composition?

We worked directly with at least five people, including a project manager, some developers, and a commercial manager.

How did you come to work with 3XM Group?

I was at a Microsoft conference where they were invited to a presentation. I contacted them to talk about the technologies they offered and how we could use them in our projects. Then, we started creating the phases this project would have.

We spent about $170,000.

We worked with them between May–December 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our engineering team confirmed that all of the elements on the platform matched the designs we provided and validated everything. We also had great acceptance from our clients; they mentioned the design looked good, the quality of the images was outstanding, and the functionality was good. All in all, we achieved our goals, and it was a successful project.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They were excellent; the project manager was very experienced. As it was something new for us, the project had many changes along the way. Nonetheless, they showed great flexibility in terms of cost; it wasn’t more expensive or affected the project as a whole. 

We mainly communicated via email and conference calls.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their technical skills were outstanding. They provided us with exactly what we were looking for.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could’ve been more organized throughout the project phases. It wasn’t a big issue, but there were times when they would start with a new stage before they finished the previous one. It was hard for us to keep up with that rhythm in terms of budget and management.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Be 100% clear and validate all of the requirements before you start working so you can make sure you have everything you need to start right away. We had designs that didn’t translate well to mixed reality, so we had that issue.

I’m the director of IT for a credit card company.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3XM Group?

They provided custom software development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

3XM Group helped us put together a team to migrate a legacy back-end customer service application to a cloud-based infrastructure and a web application. The technologies involved include Microsoft .Net, C#, APIs on the backend, and a React frontend. Everything is being built from scratch.

There are two pieces to the functionality. This is a customer-service application, so applicants come to our website and apply for a credit card. We can use our platform to look up the applicant and make a decision. Secondly, we have services for our existing card holders. If a customer calls and wants to check their account balance or ask a question, we can look up their account and find any information that they need. This is an internal application, so we didn’t invest in a real complex or exciting UI, but it looks quite nice.

We started out with some initial mockups and then created some additional screens as new features and functionalities were developed. 3XM Group took off from there. We’ve also recently engaged them for a DevOps project that is separate from the platform work.

What is the team composition?

Between all the teams we’ve worked with, there are about 20 team members: a couple of full-stack developers, React developers, three business analysts, four other analysts, and a project manager. There are also a couple of engineers on the DevOps project. We interface directly with both the project manager and the development team.

Someone from their team reached out to me on LinkedIn about a year before we started working together.

We’ve spent around $400,000–$500,000 so far.

We’ve been working together since September 2021.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

I’ve been receiving very good feedback from our business owners and users, both in terms of interacting with 3XM and with the quality of the software deliverables.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We primarily user Microsoft Teams to communicate, as well as Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The quality of their technical resources has been excellent. 3XM has been able to build up their team very quickly, which has been positive, especially in this current environment where it’s quite hard to find talent.

Additionally, their general communication and management of the team has stood out. They make sure everything is running smoothly and that they are always in touch. This is true for both the project manager and the development team.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I can’t really think of anything right now.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Spend a good amount of time talking before starting the engagement. Talk with the account manager and others in the company to ensure that they really understand that projects that you do, the type of work that you do, and the company culture that you’re trying to build in your team.

I’m the CTO of a startup with 10 people on staff. We’re a Series A firm right now, and we’re building software in the blockchain and cryptocurrency space.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3XM Group?

Our core team is building smart contracts to protect intellectual property. We have Silicon Valley-based engineers, but they can’t fulfill all of our needs. 3XM Group is developing a web application’s frontend and a data analytics interface.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

We have two different contracts: a staff augmentation for the web frontend and an end-to-end delivery team for the data interface.

The web application is a trading solution where users can trade cryptocurrencies. In this mode, we deliver tasks to their engineers, and they work with our team to provide the finished product. The platform will eventually become a mobile app, but we’re considering building that in-house.

The second project is a data analytics pipeline. We delivered the entire scope and set of specifications to 3XM, and they’ve added to them. Their experience in this field and have suggested metrics and visualizations that we’ve agreed to integrate. They also handle project management for this effort.

The pipeline itself displays statistics about what users are doing, including how many trades per day our platform sees, our seven-day active user average, user transaction size, and more. Right now, the pipeline is internal only, but we’re going to make a version of it public in the future

We’re working with two frontend engineers on the application side, and 3XM is handling the data analytics themselves.

How did you come to work with 3XM Group?

We found them through a recommendation from a friend in the Bay area. I was looking for a company that could provide both staff augmentation and end-to-end delivery. We were also looking for an off-shore firm because of the cost advantage.

We’ve been working together since July 2021, and the contract is poised to expand.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The metrics and analytics of the end-to-end delivery are very good. In fact, when the data engineers began understanding our business and what’s important to us, they suggested metrics and visualizations to include. Rather than just developing what we asked for, 3XM’s team has gone the extra mile to suggest useful features for us. They’ve taken full ownership of the project.

We needed the dashboard in a month, as we launched a tool but didn’t have time to include metrics. 3XM delivered the solution in one month.

We’re not on top of the industry with our trading application yet, as we don’t have access to diverse markets and cryptos, but that’s a business development effort, rather than a technological one. Our company is in a growth mode, so those capabilities will be coming.

In terms of design, the frontend they delivered is quite modern compared to traditional trading apps, whose UIs scream ‘90s’.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

They’ve been excellent, delivering every part of the work on time. Asana keeps us on track, and we have weekly meetings.

What did you find most impressive about them?

3XM’s team’s ability to adapt to the needs of a startup stands out. We’re not a big corporation; we’re iterating on our goals in a short time frame, so flexibility is critical. They’re open to a growing relationship, which allows us to pay for prototypes and then expand the vision.

Are there any areas they could improve?

As a general issue in the industry, there’s too much demand for talented engineers and not enough supply. It’s impossible to hire people fast enough, so it’s not anyone’s fault.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

On the humorous side, have an exciting project to give them. Our project isn’t traditional; if you have a cool product, then 3XM will get excited about the work.

Regarding serious advice, establish a good relationship with their CEO and project manager. It helps us get decent feedback outside of the weekly meetings.

We’re an IT professional consultancy that provides a vendor-agnostic approach. We help large organizations manage their data centers and networks. Rather than running the centers, we’re most focused on integrating and optimizing the tools that run them I’m the director of operations, tasked with managing the recruiting, HR, and internal IT departments.

What challenge were you trying to address with 3XM Group?

They’re supporting the IT service management process analysts and consultants. Specifically, we were working with a particular customer o building out service maps using CI (configuration items) relationships in the CMDB (configuration management database). We were working with them to implement governance processes to ensure the service mapping data stays accurate over time. To start the project, we shared the scope of work that we established with our customers as well as a job description that detailed our goals and their responsibilities.

What was the scope of their involvement?

They provided us technical and consultative resources, working with stakeholders across the organization and explaining the value of service mapping activities. Because of this, they were integral in applying change management principles in an effort to streamline the business processes. They were tasked with optimizing operational efficiencies as well as ensuring services are performed within established levels of service while meeting KPIs.

We worked directly with an IT service management consultant. Since our initial engagement, we’ve added two more resources from them to place on the project. 

How did you come to work with 3XM Group?

We needed a partner that could provide us with technical service while also having the ability to communicate with local and international teams in a remote capacity. One of our employees worked with them in the past and provided positive feedback about their services. That brought their name into the conversation.

After we reached out, we found that their solutions and capabilities aligned well with our requirements. We also got a sense that they took a more consulting-focused approach with customers, which matches up with our internal approach as well. From the beginning, they handled communication well, willing to be at the forefront of any challenges or roadblocks. Their communication and approach aligned well with what we were looking for.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working with them since August 2020. The project was initially supposed to take six months, but it was extended because of the team’s quality of work.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

All three of their team members have received positive feedback. They helped streamline our customer’s processes. Through their design and implementation of governance best practices, our customer was able to see accuracy maintain over time. Their team also effectively articulated the value of service maps from scratch, which is now being implemented through different departments across the organization.   

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

We utilize Slack for communication between their resource and our internal team. When we had calls with their group, they were mainly over Google Meets with video. We were able to see and interact with each other.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Their communication and approach stood out. They provided resources that could not only do the job but progress project and customer initiatives. It was clear that they were invested in our customer’s goals while bringing forth ideas for the future. At our company, we aim to deliver what our clients need as well as forecasting future needs. They quickly picked up and matched that approach with communication and an ideal mix of technical and consultative resources. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

They couldn’t control this, but people are unpredictable. At times, we were looking for quick returns on a position, but it took them time to find the right people. That aligns with resourcing challenges in the market, so I don’t have any true issues to report for their improvement. I’d just encourage them to continue communicating with their employees. 

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

If you have high importance on the delivery of your projects, I’d highly recommend their team. Their capabilities are strong, and it’s worth reaching out for their advisement on issues even outside of that. Their approach puts people at the forefront of their success. That’s seen through their effective resourcing as well as the satisfaction of their customers. If another company is seeking a resource, service, or guidance on how to best deliver for a customer, I’d recommend them in an instance.

Their CEO reached out and sent me a cold email at the right time. I usually delete those kinds of emails but it’s very lucky that I didn’t because we got to talking. I thought they’d be a good fit for some subcontracting or handing off of projects.

Although we have Spanish-speaking engineers, it’s not our native language. We realized 3XM Group would be better able to handle our clients who are focused on the Latin American market.

3XM Group is the real deal. They’re very talented and have a tremendous ability to execute. We have a trusted partner that really shares our values when it comes to technical ability and delivery. I trust that they’re able to deliver what they say they can deliver.

What we do is very hard to do. I pride myself on having been able to hire talent and keep that talent happy to deliver for our customers. There are thousands of companies who say they can do it, but only a handful genuinely can. 3XM Group is one of those. I’m very fortunate to have run into them.

They treat every client like they’re the most important one, even the small ones. They’re self-motivated, and I don’t have to watch over their shoulder. My customers always give great feedback about them.

One of our employers utilized 3XM’s services at his previous job. The 3XM team listened to understand what we wanted to accomplish rather than attempting to take over the project. Their team wanted to work within the framework that our company built. They also mixed in the right amount of insight, which was important to us.

We started our ongoing partnership around 2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

The results of our engagement with 3XM are impressive. We have a web app that people enjoy using. We have features and functionalities that’re largely due to our collaboration with 3XM.

We wouldn’t have the results that we have without them. They made a significant, positive impact on our frontend development. Their team also made a big impact on our middleware development. 3XM is a teammate and a partner.

How did 3XM Group perform from a project management standpoint?

3XM is a well-organized shop. Their developers comment in product management software like JIRA. It’s also easy to reach them even though they’re far away in Argentina. Their communication is excellent, so it feels like they’re next door.

What did you find most impressive about them?

3XM has a wealth of knowledge. Other members of their team unassociated with the project offered advice throughout the development process. For example, their lead data architect talked with us and made recommendations. Another individual on their team who specialized in architecture took time out of his day to speak with me about our architecture. They invest in our projects and want us to succeed.
