I’m the VP/Head of Brands & Innovation at Barr Brands, a manufacturing company. We develop innovative home improvement and household care products, offering trusted brands like DampRid, Microban, and Goof Off to solve everyday problems for homeowners and professionals.

Our objectives evolved over time and across brands, but the consistent goal was to create communications that would break through in highly competitive categories, connect with consumers, and drive meaningful business growth. When I first hired 31,000 Ft, it was to help develop step-change advertising creative for the GOLD BOND brand and drive breakthrough in the highly competitive hand and body lotion category. We needed communications that would help differentiate the brand, strengthen consumer relevance, and accelerate growth in a crowded market. Years later, when I moved to Barr Brands, I brought 31,000 Ft on board to help create breakthrough, scalable national advertising for the DampRid brand—the first time the brand had invested in that level of national advertising support. The objective was to unlock growth by translating strong consumer insights into compelling, memorable communications that could scale across channels and build broader brand awareness. Across both businesses, we also relied on them to support social and digital advertising, brand messaging, and creative development for both larger brands and smaller, more nimble initiatives.

I began working with 31,000 Ft shortly after the agency was founded and was fortunate to be one of their earliest clients. At the time, I was leading marketing on the GOLD BOND business and looking for a creative partner that could help us develop step-change advertising and break through in a highly competitive category. The partnership was incredibly successful, and I saw firsthand their ability to take strong consumer insights and turn them into communications that truly connected with consumers and drove results. Because of that experience, when I later moved into a marketing leadership role at Barr Brands and needed breakthrough creative for the DampRid brand, they were one of my very first calls.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
The strongest evidence is the sustained business performance we experienced during our partnership. On the GOLD BOND business, 31,000 Ft played a key role in helping us develop step-change advertising that enabled the brand to break through in the highly competitive hand and body lotion category. During our partnership, GOLD BOND grew from the #8 selling brand in the U.S. market to the #3 selling brand in just five years. Later, when I brought them to Barr Brands to support DampRid, they helped us develop breakthrough, scalable national advertising—the first of its kind for the brand. Their :15 second creative helped us communicate more clearly and effectively at scale, contributing to stronger brand performance and sustained double-digit CAGR growth during our partnership. Across both businesses, their work consistently translated strong consumer insights into communications that connected with consumers, strengthened brand performance, and drove measurable growth.

31,000 Ft performed exceptionally well from a project management standpoint. They were highly responsive, organized, and dependable, while also remaining flexible enough to adapt to changing business needs and timelines. What stood out most was how collaborative and integrated they were throughout the process. There was never a sense of an agency-client divide—they operated as a true extension of our team. Communication was frequent and transparent, and they consistently brought the right people to the table at the right times. Whether supporting larger, more complex advertising initiatives or smaller, fast-moving projects, they consistently delivered high-quality work on time and with a strong sense of accountability. Their ability to move quickly without sacrificing the quality of thinking or creative was especially valuable.
What did you find most impressive about them?
What impressed me most was the combination of creative strength and true partnership. 31,000 Ft has a unique ability to take strong consumer insights and translate them into communications that genuinely connect with consumers and perform in-market. They are equally effective at developing messaging rooted in functional consumer needs as they are at creating more emotionally resonant campaigns that deepen brand connection. Just as importantly, their way of working is different from most agencies I’ve partnered with. There is no barrier between agency and client—it genuinely feels like one team working toward the same objective. They bring clients into the process, build on ideas collaboratively, and consistently make the work better through partnership. In my experience, that level of trust and collaboration is where the strongest ideas emerge. The fact that I chose to bring them with me to a second company after a highly successful first partnership says a great deal about the confidence I have in their team and capabilities.

Over a 14+ year partnership, I can honestly say there have been very few areas for improvement. Like any growing agency, there are always opportunities to continue expanding capabilities and scale, but what impressed me most was their willingness to adapt, learn, and continuously improve. They have never been complacent and have consistently brought fresh thinking and strong partnership to the table.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Treat 31,000 Ft like a true strategic and creative partner, not just an executional agency. The best outcomes come when there is open collaboration, shared problem-solving, and a willingness to build ideas together. Be clear on the business challenge you are trying to solve and bring them into the conversation early. They are at their best when they can take strong consumer insights and help translate them into communications that genuinely connect and perform. Also, don’t underestimate their range. While they do excellent large-scale advertising work, they are equally effective on social, digital, and smaller, fast-moving brands or initiatives. They bring the same level of care, thinking, and creativity regardless of project size.
