Marine Manager

Challenge

Together with our client, we've created a platform that allows the coordination of ship construction projects, without unnecessary, time-consuming meetings or the involvement of excessive numbers of people. We planned to create a tool that will allow, not only for efficient communication but also for the collection and modification of documents, projects, and schemes. Each team member can

access all the latest information at any time via either the web platform, iOS or Android applications.

Services

  • UI/UX design
  • Mobile apps development
  • Web app development
  • Backend development
  • Cloud architecture

Results

Marine Manager is an intuitive Android, iOS and web application for ship construction professionals. All members of the team, regardless of their positions, can communicate with one another via chat and submit their comments. The application has many useful functions: placing notes on photos, delegating tasks, monitoring work progress, the budget and browsing orders. It makes project management easier, saves time and money and increases the quality of work in the ship construction industry.

Fonn Construction Image

Fonn Construction

Challenge

Our main goal was to transform time-consuming meetings into a few clicks in the user-friendly app. We planned to develop an effective, communication tool for construction industry projects. Access to documentation is made available anywhere through an iOS, Android or web application. Transparent feedback of any change or decision and contact with every team member is now at your

fingertips.

Services

  • UI/UX design
  • Mobile apps development
  • Web app development
  • Backend development
  • Cloud architecture

Results

We created Fonn Construction from scratch and delivered an iOS, Android and web application for construction teams. Workers, designers and clients can communicate with each other over chat and submit any failures or changes in the project as they happen.

Features like: sending photos with a drawn note, delivering group notifications, adding budget change requests or monitornig progress with milestones make project management fast, easy and effective.

Our platform of choice was MS Azure, so we also took advantage of technologies like Azure Functions and CosmosDB.

KeyShore Image

KeyShore

Challenge

We were contacted by the motorboats experts to help out with preparing a modern boat engine controller for the Internet of Things. With a growing demand in connected devices, KeyShore wanted to enable users to operate and update their boat engine controllers using a dedicated mobile app.

Services

  • UI/UX Design
  • Mobile development
  • Backend
development

Results

Within a short time, we delivered an MVP app for iOS that communicates with the boat controller using Bluetooth™ technology. It can send and receive signals to switch the engine on/off, change speed, direction, monitor batteries and update the controller firmware.

The User Interface was designed with simplicity and familiarity in mind, to provide users with a seamless transition from the physical buttons they used on the controller device.

To support firmware updates, we also created a back-end service in .NET, called through an API on request.

Grasp Image

Grasp

Challenge

Grasp is a device for supporting therapy in mental health and somatic care. After our clients had developed the prototype, we helped them with the back-end: we made the admin panel and management system for therapists. Our main challenge was related to the scope of the data. We have paid particular attention to ensuring the security of medical data processing in the context of legal

issues.

Services

  • Mobile development
  • Backend development

Results

Grasp now offers a user-friendly, safe and therapeutic environment with an extensive management system. Currently, users can gain insight into how pain, stress or specific emotions are experienced over days, weeks or even months. In the near future, we plan to work on the implementation of advanced data visualization and the user panel.

3rdLOOP Image

3rdLOOP

Challenge

The idea of RENTAFINTECH was to develop a new loyalty system called 3rdLOOP. The specific plan was to create a slim and modern loyalty app available to Android users. For entrepreneurs, it is meant to be an effective marketing system while being practically effortless. No software integration, hardware requirements or additional costs. For customers – a friendly tool that improves a shopping

experience by reminding the user about all their bonus programs, cards, and benefits.

Services

  • Mobile development
  • Backend development

Results

The result: an efficient and scalable loyalty solution suited to the current market environment. The 3rdLOOP helps with the implementation of marketing campaigns because of its many ways to interact with clients. Creating an individual bonus program is possible in less than 15 minutes and then the brand can reach the right customers, in the right place, at the right time. The app simplifies a shopper’s everyday life by putting all the different bonus programs in one place: collecting points automatically when paying by card, matched notifications and reminders and sharing shopping experiences with friends. All these functions in one elegant, convenient and intuitive Android app.

SØVN Image

SØVN

Challenge

Our client wanted to receive a pleasant mobile app available for Android and iOS systems to track users sleeping time. The big challenge was to create a user interface and design that would be unique and functional. The sleep patterns reported from the application would serve in a sleep tracking study and help to develop sleep science.

Services

  • Mobile
development

Results

We delivered mobile applications for iOS and Android users with custom designed and developed animations. The app allows to set your own sleeping goals and visualize data on a modern and user-friendly graph. You can monitor bedtime on 7 days charts and analyze your sleep patterns. Søvn app was designed offline-first: all data is stored in the local Room database (in the Android version) and SQLite database using CoreData framework (iOS version) and then synchronized with API whenever the internet connection is available. The Android app was written with Kotlin language in MVP architecture using RxJava reactive extensions. App code was fully tested with technologies like Espresso, Kakao, Spek, and Mockito. The iOS app was written in Swift language using a design pattern: MVVM with Coordinators. Unit tests were written using XCTest framework. We also used libraries like: RxSwift or Swinject.

The solution has received positive feedback from internal stakeholders. Praise for Zaven's work has focused on their ability to turn vague concepts into functional deliverables. They communicate openly and they bring significant expertise to their partnerships.

The client submitted this review online.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

Ilder, CEO.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Zaven?

Cross platform systems development.

What were your goals for this project?

Agile, professional and result oriented. Quick iterations and not too much fuss.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Some beautiful sales lady loured me in. Then I got to talking with the devs, and I was sold.

Describe the project in detail.

Co-designed and developed a system for the construction business. It has grown pretty complex, with web, iOS, android user-facing apps working towards an extensive back end designed for a seamless user experience. Users first.

What was the team composition?

Smart project owner on their side, smart backend people (node, c#), ios devs, android devs and webdevs (js). Great devops nerds for CI that actually works.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The system works as it should. It might even work better than it should, since we regularly receive good constructive feedback and criticism from my favorite selected people. Additionally, they listen and make mediocre ideas good.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

It's seamless, we use slack, video calls, and recorded think aloud sessions to communicate.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Professionalism. They know their stuff, and coming from a culture of "its typical Norwegian to be best" it is nice to get a reality check from time to time.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Manipulating and on-boarding reluctant primadonna developers from the partner company. Things might move fast, but too fast for someone. People need to do "their part" at their pace, with correct info.

Around 50% of home builders in Norway use the tool that Zaven created, and it’s also gathering contracts internationally. Their punctual team excels at critical thinking, offering implementable ideas, transparent communication, and working to provide the best price/value ratio.

The client submitted this review online.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the founder and CEO of Fonn. The company was founded in 2016 and sponsored by Innovation Norway. Fonn Construction was launched in May 2017 and had an immediate response from clients and investors.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Zaven?

We hired them to develop Fonn Construction, a user-friendly web management tool for the construction industry that holds all documentation and information on one common platform.

What were your goals for this project?

Our objective was to create a new standard for construction website collaboration. First of all, user-friendliness is important to us, and second, it had to be cloud-based and built on state-of-the-art infrastructure.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

Our sister Company, Ilder, tried Zaven on a smaller project to make sure their communication skills, technical capabilities, and delivery were good.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

We gave Zaven some specifications around our technology choices and the guidelines we use to document the code. After this, Zaven took over the whole project. Our only additional input was for the user stories.

What was the team composition?

There are about 25 people from Zaven involved every day in the development of our project. There are developers for all platforms and a great QA team. We slowly scaled from having 5–10 people to a max of 30 individuals at one point.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

More than 50% of the domestic home builders in Norway use Fonn today. We’re now scaling for international growth, with signed clients in both the US and UK. Zaven has done an excellent job, and I couldn’t be happier with my choice. I would highly recommend Zaven for other projects.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We’ve had an effective workflow, with sporadic meetings and all-day communication via Slack. There’s a very open and transparent dialogue established between us.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

Zaven’s critical thinking and ability to improve all of my user stories are remarkable. Fonn is both visually and technically top of the class thanks to Zaven.

Are there any areas for improvement?

There’s nothing special to mention that they need to improve.
