Besides their brick and mortar stores, Grasim’s chemical division which manufactures caustic soda reached the end consumer by going B2C for the first time, in consultation with Your Retail Coach.
Mobile app for end users led to transparency, competitive pricing, deeper understanding of the end user and better access for the brand.
How YRC Worked with Grasim
The entire mobile app was built based on working out what the end customer would want. For understanding the entire strategy, YRC built SOPS for the mobile app development and implementation process, management of D2C retail stores and creating awareness.
Besides this YRC also worked to move past existing business models in the chemical manufacturing industry. As a result of their direct intervention, through a B2C strategy, Grasim controlled pricing and gained critical feedback on the insights shared by end users.
SOPs for the entire concept from supply chain, to order management, logistics, inventory and warehouse management were framed and implemented by YRC consultants. IT integration for the mobile app and strategic aspects of mobile app development such as ideation, conceptualization, implementation, testing and launching were also supervised and managed by Your Retail Coach strategists.

YRC started working on the backbone of Scarters i.e. Inventory Management. YRC started understanding flow of goods, returns, bulk orders, cash flows, manufacturing turnaround time & increasing volumes. Considering these parameters, YRC designed the inventory planning module which helped the client to decide which SKU to buy, how much to buy & when to buy.
Cash Flow Management
Simultaneously YRC Finance Experts devised strategies on Cash Flow Management Cycle which helped to plan the operating expenses, analyse the breakeven points, budgeting for capital investments and recurring expenses.
SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures)
YRC defined the Organogram and mapped roles, responsibilities & KPIs (Key Performance Indicators) of every team member. SOPs increased transparency amongst core team members with clearly defined processes. SOPs facilitated inter-departmental communication thereby preventing authority-responsibility imbalance. YRC introduced several tools i.e. task management software, calendar, inventory management software, CRM, etc. which increased team efficiency by 50%, eased operational glitches & also kept team members motivated towards the organization goals.
Warehouse/ Fulfillment Center
YRC devised an agile layout plan for Scarters warehouse, which can help them gradually expand upto 03 times their existing capacity in the same carpet area. Major challenge was to bring down the Order Lead time from order receiving, processing to dispatch. These SOPs had to be integrated with the Warehouse Management System Software to prevent dependency on people & manual documents. YRC Team designed Distribution Centre layout with detailed Infrastructure Plan i.e. Racks, their types and their positioning, Office area, Goods Processing plan (from Inbound to Outbound activities), Networking & Hardware plan (i.e. computer positions, security systems).

SOP Development for Anand Group Head Office
YRC was awarded this project of designing SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) for Anand Group Head Office, which consisted of 17 Departments/ Functions. Their head office capabilities extend towards managing 16+ brands/ companies, hence it was extremely essential for the SOPs to be robust & precise to reduce any operational glitch. The project was executed by deploying multiple teams, across various activities. It took us 06 months of focussed efforts in building the complete process manual consisting of over 400+ SOPs. The experience across the project was truly enriching and worthy of the time & efforts involved.

Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of a retail e-commerce company.
What challenge were you trying to address with Your Retail Coach?
We needed consultation and branding services for our e-commerce website development because we wanted to scale our business.
What was the scope of their involvement?
For the past four years, we’ve done about three consulting projects with Your Retail Coach. Typically, every year when we’re trying to grow and are facing new challenges, we involve them.
Your Retail Coach has been an acting consultant to us for all the systems and processes of our brand. They helped us build the organizational structure, systems, and processes for all of our departments. They’ve done a few training programs when we hired new people, and they’ve also taken reviews after our projects are completed to make sure what we’ve implemented together is on the right track.
We did all of the communication and brand positioning projects with them to set up the foundation for our brand. We built a team by finding the right talent and having an organizational structure.
Your Retail Coach helped us make sure we find the right partners and that they’re sticking to the system. We did a lot of work with our branding and brand positioning by making sure we have the right team and the correct partners to build the website and manage our customer service. They’ve also helped us with the UI/UX for our customers, the CRM, and we’ve also involved them with warehousing.
Your Retail Coach is the team who gave us suggestions and helped us make decisions. The project we did more recently with them was to develop certain standards for our brand. Currently, we make a lot of suggestions jointly. They’ve known our company and brand from inception, so it makes it a lot easier to have their perspective, which helps us make a collaborative decision.
When it comes to e-commerce, they helped with our inventory management and backend coding. They’ve also advised us of which marketplaces to partner with and helped us understand the business model of each marketplace, pricing, margins, upfront costs, customer experience, and our CRM.
The partnership is all part and parcel of how to digitally be more efficient in e-commerce and the kind of platforms we need to use to build out a website. They showed us what was trending and what the future of e-commerce is.
How did you come to work with Your Retail Coach?
When e-commerce wasn’t something mature, they had huge experience in offline retail. That experience and knowledge was very positive. I could easily see those experiences were being communicated and applied to the e-commerce business. E-commerce is relatively new but they have experience with it. We chose them because of their integrity, competency, and experience.

What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in August 2018, and we continue to use their services.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We crossed $1 million revenue this year. We’re a growing e-commerce retail brand in India. Once we’ve finished a project with them, we have a review mechanism with them 3–6 months after the project ends. If there are small changes needed, they’ve responded and made alterations at that time.
When they’re developing something, they are with you when the project goes live. Once we’ve done a project with them, we typically are in touch with each other for 1–2 months to make sure whatever is implemented has gone correctly. Our experience has been good.
How did Your Retail Coach perform from a project management standpoint?
They’re very efficient and flexible with time management and deliver what they commit to. I really respect the founder for the commitment he has to time. They’re very particular about time and that helps make things more professional. We’ve implemented Asana and we communicate mostly through virtual calls.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re a team with great integrity. They have a very honest approach to the reality of the business. When something isn’t good for us, they’re very honest and I have immense trust in them.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, my experience has been quite good. I’ve always found value in what they deliver.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
If you want successful projects, you need to trust them and build that trust. If anyone is at the start of their journey, it helps to start working with Your Retail Coach because they get to know the nuances of the business, and it helps you connect and do more projects with them. The best time to have Your Retail Coach with you is when you’re starting.
