We acquired an existing mobile game for Android and iOS mobile platforms with the intention of further developing and monetizing it under their own brand. However, we needed additional expertise in a number of areas, such as transitioning a game to its own accounts and online PVP game design — so they came to XIM for help. The project had two main goals; to smoothly transition the game from the previous company, keeping the existing user base without losing any user data, and to revamp it to increase monetization. 

Right from the get-go, the project appeared daunting — there were a number of technically challenging aspects, such as working with the Photon server required to run the game, and the project had to be delivered under a tight deadline — just 6 months (+ 6 months of support). XIM immediately put together a core team to start the project, subsequently building it up to 13 specialists — including game designers, developers, artists, VFX and QA specialists, and a project manager — with the relevant skills to handle all the project’s complexities. 

The game was successfully and smoothly transferred from the previous company with no losses in user data. It is now available worldwide in active, parallel development, with 1 million monthly users and a total userbase of 20 million people. As a result of XIM’s work on the game’s monetization, the income per user has significantly increased. XIM is in discussions with the client about further collaboration to introduce new features to Domino Online, and the client will be able to use the improvements made to the server side in the development of more multiplayer game projects.

As a result of XIM’s work on the game’s monetization, the income per user has significantly increased. The company is discussing with XIM about further collaboration to introduce new features. The company is going to use the new experience to develop more multiplayer game projects. The revenue per user doubled. Server fault tolerance has improved a number of times.

The XIM team completed the work on time. The response time was minimal. In this regard, we didn't observe any problems.

I’m the CEO of EHRsynergy which is an electronic medical records or charting app that’s designed to ease physicians’ documentation of their encounters with patients.

What challenge were you trying to address with XIM?

Developing something for the healthcare market isn’t an easy task. You need to have an underlying understanding or be able to learn it very quickly. It’s never a simple and inexpensive process. It took me a long time to find who I was going to work with.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

I educated XIM on healthcare including everything from terminology to what a patient encounter looks like. It was a challenge for them to develop something for an industry that they’re not familiar with.

The app structures why the patient came in, the history of the present illness, review of systems, the physical exam, the assessment, and plans. We built the entire system using augmented intelligence as well as analysis and data from various sources. We wanted to make the charting experience the fastest available. The app makes health information usable and actionable for both the provider and the patient.

We cleared beta about eight weeks ago. We now have active users. We’re wrapping up two minor items on the current version and we’re already working on version 1.2, version two. Our goal is for our system to be integrated with every other system that will have us. My relationship with XIM will be as long as they’re around.

What is the team composition?

We have between 6–10 people working on the project. My point of contact is the project manager, Sergey (Project Manager and Lead QA Engineer, XIM). He is a remarkable individual.

How did you come to work with XIM?

I investigated my options but came across multiple roadblocks in traditional methods of searching for companies to hire. It was difficult to find an affordable firm with experience in the industry and the ability to build something outside of their realm of expertise. I’m very lucky that my buddy recommended them to me.

We started working together in September 2015 and the work is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

From when we started 2 ½ years ago to where we are today, they went from no experience in healthcare to building an app that is getting outrageously wonderful reviews. This team knows healthcare now. They learned everything along the way without any major problems or delays. It was remarkable.

We’ve been able to build the app for four times less than what the current market value of the product is. A lot of companies in the industry have spent millions to get to a fraction of where we are today.

How did XIM perform from a project management standpoint?

We worked together every single day except weekends. There was immense flexibility from the beginning when we debated how to communicate. We started in Microsoft OneNote, Evernote, and eventually went to Trello. There weren’t issues with trying new ways. Our ability to communicate has been fantastic.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They adjusted the team and their method of doing things to accommodate an entirely new field. They made whatever I needed happen.

Are there any areas they could improve?

No. My level of satisfaction has been absolutely excellent.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Prior to going in and working with a company on developing anything, plan ahead of time and make sure you go over the details of how you’re going to communicate, share an idea, and do a review.

Open Wave Mobility is a pure software development product company. We build products for the mobile Internet, working substantially with mobile service providers, such as AT&T Wireless, Sprint, Orange, Vodafone, SoftBank Mobile, and Telstra. We focus in mobile data traffic management, where we have efficiently managed the traffic over the mobile network with capabilities, such as video streaming optimization. We also do mobile traffic monetization, where we actually have the mobile operators monetize the traffic over the network through mobile advertisement end-user engagement and policy enforcement solutions. Finally, we do mobile subscriber data management, where we manage the life cycle of the subscriber's profile for all the different applications that the mobile operator has within their network.

What business challenge were you trying to address with XIM?

As a software product company, software development is one of the key, if not the most important, groups within the organization, and we work in quite a challenging environment in terms of technical complexity. We've struggled to recruit high-end software development and resources at the pace that we wanted due to our opportunities. We worked with XIM as an extension of our existing research and development or software development team as a means to strengthen and grow our team overall.

Ultimately, XIM provides software development and software testing engineers into our research and development team, but they truly act as a natural extension of each of our teams. All of our software development groups have XIM members within them, so they're actually involved in every one of our products. The roles that they provide is from design through to implementation and testing as well as customer support on occasions because we have some customers that are actually in the local regions where we have our XIM engineers.

How did you come to work with XIM?

XIM had originally been working with our previous parent company called Open Wave on a client business, not on our service side development. When I took over the service side or the mobility division before we were privatized and became a new company, I was looking for a new offshore development partner. We already had one, but I wasn't happy with the performance of them, so we went out RFP [request for proposal], and I invited XIM into that process. That was in 2006. Today, we're successful in one of our product lines, and due to the success in that product line, I had then introduced them as our primary offshore development partner.

It's in the order of $10 million.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

They are integrated into our development team, so it's hard to say what we can associate to them. I can give you some numbers, such as increased test automation during the last 18 months by more than 80 percent. We've also improved our product quality index. We improved our product quality index in the last 18 months by 32 percent.

How did XIM perform from a project management standpoint?

From an overall management perspective, XIM is very transparent. They are responsive, and they're easy to work with, too.

What distinguishes XIM from other providers?

The quality of XIM's employees from a technical aptitude perspective is greater than anything we've seen with any of our other vendors, and that's what lent us to being the long-term partner of theirs.

Is there anything XIM could have improved or done differently?

To be honest, no, or else I wouldn't have been with them now. The challenges that we've had through the years, they have addressed openly and objectively and resolved them. That's always a sign of a good partnership. They are very much customer-focused, and they commit the appropriate time for us at a management level as well.

I am not comfortable assigning specific results to XIM’s work, but I can say that XIM has done everything we wanted them to do on time and to our satisfaction.

XIM performed very well. They had to switch project managers during our long partnership, but that has not affected the progress or quality of work of the project. We are very happy with all the work that they’ve done for us.

The work is still ongoing, so it’s too early to give tangible results. Since XIM developed our new CRM system, it’s become easier for us to manage business processes and connect with our customers. Our company’s reputation has improved because of it.

The challenge was to create a modern portal for our clients that we could integrate into a CRM [customer relationship management system] of our choice. We needed a provider that could create a modern looking website. We partnered with XIM for this purpose.

XIM were responsible for designing and developing a user portal and customizing our open source CRM/ERP [enterprise resource planning] system, Vtiger. They then integrated the portal into our CRM.

The size of the project is in the $50,000 to $200,000 range.

What is the status of this engagement?

The project started about 12 to 18 months ago [as of August 2015]. It's ongoing.

Could you share any statistics or metrics from this engagement?

In our industry, we cannot measure tangible results. We focus on the convenience of use because we are an end product. Our sales are also based on other factors. The ease of use of the portal is the only thing I could relate to XIM's work, and that part is great. Our employees are using it successfully and are very satisfied with it.

How did XIM perform from a project management standpoint?

XIM's project management and quality of work is great. There are certain challenges, but this is one of the easiest projects I've ever done. I got direct access to the team, so it was easy to overcome any challenges or make changes if something didn't feel right. They have met all our demands and brought their own fresh ideas to the project.

What distinguishes XIM from other providers?

XIM's team is diverse in terms of expertise. Starting with CRM expertise to HTML and mobile applications, it makes them really versatile and unique. They're capable of understanding the product and business requirements as well as implementing them. They can really relate to the client. Additionally, XIM is very professional, and has great customer service and experienced personnel. They make you feel like a VIP client. Moreover, all the deadlines had been met in an acceptable time frame with good code quality and consistency.

Is there anything XIM could have improved or done differently?

You have to give them as much detail as possible in terms of technical specifications. I wish we could spend less time speaking with them about all the specifications at the beginning of the project. I had to do a lot of homework for it, but once we had a finalized plan, they ran with it.
