Big Cork Vineyards Website Design Image

Big Cork Vineyards Website Design

Objective

Wood Street was already working with Amy Benton, Director of Development and Marketing at Big Cork Vineyards, doing some website maintenance and WordPress and WooCommerce updates. And although they loved their website’s design, it needed some modernization and design enhancements.

Big Cork’s idyllic, microclimate and fertile soil yields smaller grapes with more concentrated flavors,

resulting in (you guessed it) BIG and intensely flavorful wines. Big Cork is a popular destination for wine tours, weddings, and events.

Solution

Working with Amy Benton, Wood Street designed and developed a completely custom WordPress website to replace their existing theme. The new site has been redesigned and restructured to make it easier for visitors to find information about the wine, upcoming events, and other Vineyard news.

The site is now fully integrated with their OrderPort POS system for all eCommerce needs, the Wine Club, and any ticket purchasing. This has streamlined Big Cork’s back office processes, giving them more time to focus on what they do best… making great wine!

Visit Montgomery, MD Website Design Image

Visit Montgomery, MD Website Design

Objective

Visit Montgomery, MD is the destination marketing organization for Montgomery County, Maryland – located just north of Washington, DC. Wood Street had designed their previous website in 2014, using WordPress as the CMS. Having gone through a rebrand and refocus with Bethesda, MD based form, StreetSense, Visit Montgomery needed a rebranded and reorganized custom WordPress website with

connections to their Simpleview CRM and the Localist events platform.

Solution

After winning the contract for the redesign, Wood Street got right to work with Director of Marketing, Cory Van Horn and the Visit Montgomery team to design and build a completely new and robust web presence. The site has been customized for more control of content throughout, maintaining a clean, fast loading website with high design at every turn. Wood Street worked with Mr. Van Horn and the folks at StreetSense to integrate brand elements throughout the site and to create a new look for their online magazine, Downtown Upcounty.

Wells and Associates Website Design Image

Wells and Associates Website Design

Objective

Based in the Washington, DC area in the Eastern US and in Denver in the West, Wells and Associates assists developers, businesses, and property owners in securing entitlements, gaining regulatory and community approvals, and designing and implementing multimodal transportation plans to create better, more forward-thinking places and networks.

In other words, Wells and Associates are

helping their development partners make forward-thinking, smart transportation decisions. While their existing website contained a wealth of great content, the user was a bit lost as to where to go and what to do. The website needed visual direction to drive user interaction.

Solution

Wood Street worked with the team at Wells and Associates to identify the users and outline their specific needs as they align to the new website goals. Using a strategic narrative, updated sitemap, and wireframes, this project team was able to outline, design, and implement a better and more effective user experience. The site is responsive, working well on desktops, laptops, and mobile devices. This website is still loaded with expanded, in-depth process, past performance, and educational content. It’s just easier for the user to find that content and the path to conversion is now an intuitive one.

Black Hog BBQ Website Design

Objective

Black Hog BBQ, a growing chain of BBQ restaurants, needed a fresh new web experience for its customers. The goal was to cultivate a new look and feel that reinforced branding while also providing an effective information hub for users.

Solution

custom website for Black Hog BBQ. The look of the website is based on the completely redesigned branding, marketing materials, menus and signs crafted by Wood Street. The look and function of the site is set to mirror the unique and delicious dining experience of each Black Hog BBQ location.

The Tasting Room Website Design Image

The Tasting Room Website Design

Objective

The Tasting Room, a modern restaurant serving fresh, regional cuisine with European influence, wanted to enhance its web presence with a bold, high-end website.

Solution

Working with restaurateur Mike Tauraso and his marketing team, Wood Street designed and developed a completely custom website for The Tasting Room or TR. The look of the website is the

shared vision of TR and Wood Street utilizing a mobile first web design approach. The user experience focuses on easy access to the menu – the heart of what makes a TR experience unique.

Talon Construction Website Design Image

Talon Construction Website Design

Objective

Talon Construction specializes in residential construction. Using their design-build process for new custom homes, additions, kitchens, bathrooms, basements, outdoor living space, the Talon Team will manage your project as if it were their own. Customer satisfaction is job one. Wood Street worked directly with the owner of Talon to help develop user profiles, and user stories so we could

effectively map the user experience to that of a target customer for Talon.

Solution

The new website offers easy access to past performance pieces, useful articles, and a break down of Talon’s process and customer bill of rights. We used an elegant design style to lead the viewer through the Talon story and encourage them to make contact. Wood Street spent the time needed to get the Talon team comfortable with the WordPress dashboard on how to best use content to build traffic and drive conversions! The new website, with our instruction, has become, far and away, the biggest driver of business for Talon!

NOCoE Website Design Image

NOCoE Website Design

Objective

The Center is a partnership of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO), the Institute of Transportation Engineers (ITE), and the Intelligent Transportation Society of America (ITSA) with support from the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA).

Working with Center Director Patrick Son and his excellent team, Wood Street was tasked with designing a

unique custom theme while also revamping and improving a custom Drupal CMS solution with an integrated Knowledge Center loaded with easy to find resources, events, and data.

Solution

The new National Operations Center of Excellence (NOCoE) custom Drupal website is designed to offer a suite of resources to serve the transportation systems management and operations (TSMO) community. The new Center and its website will offer an array of technical services such as peer exchange workshops and webinars, ongoing assessments of best practices in the field, and on-call assistance.

The Center website was also expanded to include two new resource libraries which were integrated into the existing Knowledge Center database. All assets for the Knowledge Center are stored using Amazon AWS cloud services to reduce server bloat and page load times.

Builders National Cooperative Website Design Image

Builders National Cooperative Website Design

Objective

Builders National Cooperative needed a simple web presence to explain and sell a seemingly complex process. Having already designed their brand, Wood Street had a palette to work from.

Solution

The first step was to take the BNC process and finetune it graphically down to a simple yet informative infographic. That infographic helped to drive the creative

process throughout the rest of the website. The result is a custom web presence that informs, educates, and converts.

COVES WordPress Website Design Image

COVES WordPress Website Design

Objective

ASTC, a Wood Street client for some time, asked us to develop something unique for their new service. COVES, or the Collaboration for Ongoing Visitor Experience Studies, is a transformative data service created by museum professionals for museum professionals. COVES helps museums be more effective and economically strong through collaborative collection, analysis, and interpretation of visitor

experience data.

Solution

Wood Street designed and developed a custom, responsive, WordPress website solution. The talented designers at Wood Street also produced custom illustrations and animation, using JavaScript and CSS, to add life and excitement to the COVES website experience. Instead of a boring website, COVES is now a website that tells a story about the experience COVES aims to capture.

We developed a custom Google Map solution so users can easily access more information on a participating COVES site near them. We are currently working with ASTC to develop a database driven custom post type to display the results of the data collection and analysis.

Hoover-Fisher Florist Website Design Image

Hoover-Fisher Florist Website Design

Objective

Hoover-Fisher Florist, a small family-owned florist business with over 60 years of experience, approached Wood Street about a complete redesign of their website. The goal was to showcase products effectively while also promoting seasonal specials and providing users with an effective online shopping experience.

Solution

Working with the marketing and

management team at Hoover-Fisher Florist, Wood Street designed and developed a completely custom WordPress website. The look of the website was the result of a collaborative effort with the folks at Hoover-Fisher Florist where Wood Street led the client through our process focusing on the user experience to improve the customer journey as they order flowers online.

The UX focuses on easy access to products and a seamless checkout process with custom MAS POS API integration – making ordering flowers from Hoover-Fisher Florist a pleasant experience on any device.

JoJo's Restaurant & Taphouse Website Design Image

JoJo's Restaurant & Taphouse Website Design

Objective JoJo’s Restaurant & Tap House provides a bit of a unique dining experience. They offer a semi-private dining room that will appeal to those who want a nice, casual atmosphere without the noise and bustle of a bar right next to them.

Solution

Wood Street worked with proprietors Jo and Jeff Button to design and develop a completely custom WordPress website to

replace their old template site. The new site has been redesigned and restructured so that visitors can easily find what beers are on tap, what special events are happening, and what latest tasty creation the chef has developed.

The website uses visual accents that mimic the feel of a visit to JoJo’s historic downtown location. The new website is easy to use, easy to update by JoJo’s staff and offers quick access to the information-hungry and thirsty patrons need!

Diesel Technology Forum Animation

Objective

Diesel Technology Forum (DTF) works to provide real data and analysis to illustrate how diesel fuel can be a clean and sustainable alternative to other fuel sources.

Solution

Wood Street created this video to help DTF dispel some common myths about diesel fuel using a smartphone search as the premise. Wood Street designed the illustrations and animation and

coordinated the voiceover talent and music.

https://www.woodst.com/project/clean-diesel-video/

Objective

Online calculator startup vCalc was looking to create a video to use on their website and in investor presentations. They needed a simple, animated demo that explained the vCalc tool in easy-to-understand language using relatable themes and imagery.

Solution

Wood Street wrote the script, designed the graphics, coordinated the voice over talent and music, and

put it all together in this slick, quick, and effective animated presentation.

Rodgers Consulting Logo Image

Rodgers Consulting Logo

Objective

Rodgers Consulting is a well-known and well respected planning and engineering firm in the Washington, DC area. So, when it came to a rebrand, understanding their mission was essential – “to provide quality consulting services for clients who recognize the importance of integrity, community responsibility, with a commitment to excellence in planning and design.”

Rodgers was also in the

process of a transition in leadership. It was clear that Rodgers needed a team who could capture where Rodgers came from and, at the same time, where they were headed.

Solution

After a lot of discussion and planning with the Rodgers marketing and management team, Wood Street began the designs. The process was one of experimentation as it was still unclear how far Rodgers needed to go. In the end, we feel that, as a team, Rodgers Consulting and Wood Street arrived at the perfect design, font, and color scheme for the next chapter in the Rodgers Consulting story.

CODE Logo Image

CODE Logo

Objective

Simple, sleek and impactful – that was the vision CODE provided for their logo and branding. As a high-end architectural service provider and consultancy firm, CODE wanted to communicate its modern professionalism and dependability in a bold, creative way. Delivering these goals would involve combining them to construct a concise visual statement built to draw the eye and encapsulate CODE’s

identity.

Solution

Wood Street tackled this challenge by looking for a way to portray the name “CODE” in an architectural grid-based format. The labyrinth of lines in the resulting mark abstracts the name of the firm while conveying a blueprint layout of a modern, geometric structure. The custom condensed font used for CODE’s logotype aids in reinforcing a modern style, while ensuring ease of reading for those who may not have time to crack the “code” present in the mark. Combining these elements, the completed logo is visually rich and interesting while also being effective at communicating corporate identity.

https://www.woodst.com/project/code-brand/

vCalc Logo Image

vCalc Logo

Objective

Wood Street was hired to create an identity for vCalc, a newly-developed social platform that combined mathematical equations with social sharing, chat messaging, blogs and libraries. The logo for this unique network needed to reside comfortable alongside the giants of today’s social network, such as Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.

Solution

During initial

brainstorming and drafting sessions, Wood Street discovered that the mathematical symbol for division bared a close resemblance to a “v,” which provided an effective theme for the vCalc mark. Setting this symbol inside a beveled partial square produced both a capitol “C” and a calculator button. Since vCalc’s main features included a variety of virtual calculators, this imagery proved to be very effective in representing the brand. The typeface chosen for vCalc’s logo worked nicely alongside the beveled strokes of the mark without become a dead knockoff of other social media logotypes.

Builders National Cooperative Logo Image

Builders National Cooperative Logo

Objective

Builders National Cooperative or BNC is a Mid-Atlantic area based home construction solutions provider. Their unique product allows builders to enjoy some of the cost savings and time efficiencies that regional and national homebuilders take advantage of. It was essential to convey BNC’s unique qualities as a company into its branding.

Solution

After working

with the management team at BNC, Wood Street developed a strong but playful brand combining elements that subconsciously tell the BNC story. The new logo uses elements of construction design with a subtle target symbol to reinforce BNC’s ability to get their clients through every project on-time, and on target.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

The Summit Foundation is a private family foundation that seeks to promote the health and well-being of the planet by achieving gender equality, protecting the earth’s biodiversity, and making cities livable. I’m the office manager, and one of my tasks is managing the website.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Wood Street, Inc.?

We hired Wood Street to refresh our website. Our previous site was outdated and disorganized.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to present content on our site in a more digestible manner for our readers while still maintaining our essence as an organization.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We researched and spoke with several web developers. Of those, three met our needs and budget, but Wood Street provided the clearest project timeline and the best understanding of our values. Wood Street was the obvious choice.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Wood Street built a new site from scratch. We worked with their team to create a color palette, homepage, and content layout. Our team decided on a blog format for program updates and announcements. Each of our programs has a landing page detailing the purpose, and then another page with in-depth information. We also worked on site navigation by connecting all parts of our site with fewer clicks between pages.

What was the team composition?

We had two points of contact: a project manager and head designer. There were three additional designers as well.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

We had little expertise in web development, but Wood Street and their team were patient with us. There was a clear idea of what we wanted, but we didn’t know how to accomplish our goal. Wood Street delivered in getting our foundation the right look and feel for the website.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management was effective and efficient. We had in-person meetings when needed and had conversations over conference calls. There was a quick turnaround for edits. If there were any delays, it wasn’t by much. We used Basecamp to exchange materials.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

What I found most impressive was their passion. Wood Street also worked well with their team and knew how to manage expectations and deadlines.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, not at this time.

We worked with them on our initial website, and we were highly satisfied with their work and their customer service.

Describe the project in detail.

We initially met several times to discuss our company goals and what we needed to be able to do with the new website. We established the design and layout early in the process and laid the groundwork for the rest of the pages. They developed a program to enter new content and photos.

What was the team composition?

We initially met with Jon (President, Wood Street, Inc.) Jason (Vice President) and Jamie (Creative Director) guided us through content input, and Derek (Web Development Manager) assisted with QA.

We began with a single point of contact, but we gradually started communicating with a variety of resources. We established a shared message-board system on Basecamp to facilitate team-wide interactions and archive every step of the design and development process. A professional and responsible team, Wood Street, Inc. also devised an efficient testing mechanism to help us launch the site. They continue to handle minor issues quickly, which saves me time. I can count on them to take care of my website; the team shows an unwavering level of commitment.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

They’ve been extremely responsive not only during the design and development phases but after we launched the initial site as well. We’ve completed several changes and iterations over the past couple of years, and they’ve been consistently great.

The Wood Street, Inc. team is also very candid. They provide honest advice on all aspects of our partnership, including both project management and technical elements. They’re very clear about what’s working and what’s not.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Basecamp is a functional project management tool, but it’s not completely intuitive in our use case. I think Wood Street, Inc. should look into leveraging some newer collaboration tools.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

We’re a national nonprofit members' association serving foundations and funders with few or no staff. I run the membership, marketing, and communications teams.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Wood Street, Inc.?

We needed a completely refreshed website that synced with our database, provided a robust search function, and had better UX elements overall. There was a lot of information that needed to be presented in various formats, while still being clear and accessible, and quickly communicating who we are.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to increase user satisfaction with our website and see an increase in our number of web visits and the level of engagement with our content.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

They were recommended to us, so we had them fill out an RFP. It met all our needs, budget restrictions, and timeline expectations. Upon meeting Jon-Mikel (President, Wood Street, Inc.), we knew they would be a good fit.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

They designed and implemented an entirely new website for us. They began by mocking up designs, and then they gave feedback on our information architecture. After that, they worked with our SalesForce developer to integrate a single sign-on process, helped with our hosting options, and uploaded content and graphics.

What was the team composition?

The was one main project lead who did the work. Other team members were pulled in as needed.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

They were amazing strategic partners at every step in the process. We’re continually receiving positive feedback on our site, and other consultants in our industry have been using it as a good example to their clients. Overall, we’re thrilled with the results.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

We had regular phone calls and used Basecamp to communicate about the project between calls. They were able to meet a very tight deadline for us, too.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

The good relationship they built with us made it easy to work with their entire team.

Are there any areas for improvement?

No, I can't name anything specific.

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m a digital marketing executive at Vizion Interactive. We’re a digital marketing company that specializes in paid and organic search marketing. We also have experience with all digital marketing channels as well as website design and optimization.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Wood Street, Inc.?

We needed a partner with whom we could build several enterprise-level websites.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to build social promotion websites that had a clean, presentable design and an index- and SEO-friendly structure.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

We’d worked with them on a couple of previous projects, including our own corporate website redesign. So, when a large entertainment firm contacted us to develop sites for their movie launches, we immediately talked to Wood Street. They have an immense work ethic and are able to deliver quality work under pressure.

Can you go into detail about the services they provided and the scope of the project?

In the past, Wood Street has designed, implemented, and handled entire website builds, including any and all front- and backend modifications our clients requested. They also cover the technical and artistic work for every project.

Because this current project is for an active client with several NDAs in place, I can't go into specific details. The project consists of three parts. First, WOOD Street has to design a template that accommodates all promotional aspects of the movie as it goes through various releases (e.g., in theatres, on DVD). Second, they must incorporate the individual design elements that were approved via our client’s legal negotiations with various stakeholders related to the movie. Finally, they need to launch the sites and update them with news and highlights as they arise.

What was the team composition?

We work with their president and one of their co-founders.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

With the Wood Street team’s immense help, we're able to accomplish all of our builds and regularly receive praise from our clients. Our current client is ecstatic about Wood Street’s work and both enjoys and respects their input. They’re looking to become a long-term client with us and Wood Street.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Project management is handled in a primary (me) and secondary (Wood Street’s president and co-founder) structure. We work together to provide the best possible project flow and outcome for our joint client. The client is extremely happy with our ability to always be available when something comes up.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

I honestly can’t say enough about them. They’ve never been stuck in a rut, and they consistently over-deliver, efficiently producing beautiful work. The team at Wood Street is thorough and consistent, and I would highly recommend them to anyone who needs website design and development help.

Are there any areas where they can improve?

I can’t think of any areas we've run into that need improvement.
