We wanted to setup a wholesale arm to our shopify store so that our B2B customers could purchase online at trade prices. This would reduce admin and make payments easier to manage (no requirement for invoicing through QBs). The scope expanded during the project as we decided to do a major overhaul of the website at the same time and change the theme used.

Develop a shopify theme based on an out of the box template with several custom developments to accommodate our existing integrations and designed tool.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

The new theme went live within 4 months. This was no mean feat - 2 other agencies had tried and failed to deliver over the last 2 years. Why Matters were excellent to deal with - they absolutely stick with their promises and are very open and honest. Conversion rate has already increased +40% and speed is ~85% better; jumping from 19 to 35 almost overnight.

The project took 4 months (16 weeks in total). This was a little over the initial estimate but this was due to the complexity of our custom development requests. Why Matters were honest and transparent about the delay and a pleasure to work with. It is worth noting - 2 other agencies took over 24 months and delivered nothing. Claiming it was too complex!

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Given our previous experience, it was refreshing to find a pragmatic and dedicated web development firm. They were driven towards our commercial success as if it were their own.

Are there any areas for improvement or something Why Matters could have done differently?

It would be good on future projects to plan in a test period with standard templates for recording feedback to avoid lots of emails. This is very minor though.

We had an initial chat and AYO was lovely. he was calm, well informed and really seemed to care. something I haven't seen from any other company in over 6 years in business. this was solidified by the quote he gave me. he knew we were struggling and offered me a price i could work with to deliver the results i needed.

Using shopify platform, Ayo and his team redesigned the whole site and added a new theme. nothing was ever too much trouble and Marcos was a dream to work with. jumping from spreadsheets to screenshots and always seeming to be able to understand what i needed. using liquid code Macos made custom changes to the theme and the results were outstanding!

I worked mainly with Ayo and Marcos on the site design but now i am continuing with WM on SEO and will be working more with Svetlana as we fix outstanding errors from my site and start to build better SEO rankings.

after launching my health score jumped from 7 to 73!!! we have only been live 2 days but i am excited to see the site speed improve too over time.

They're always accommodating and super helpful. totally transparent. really amazing to work with and totally over delivered.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Ayo was a pleasure to work with and Marcos bent over backwards to get the job done. He worked long hours on my site and i could even see him working on it on boxing day! Their commitment and support for my brand have left me in tears of gratitude after the site launched.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

At the very start there was a period at the start where they were doing the first design of the site and as i didn't know the company at that point i did start to wonder if they were doing anything and if i had picked another company just out to take my money. however a week later they delivered the design and i was blown away. Might have been good to see a couple of pages along the way to build my confidence in the company but i didn't need to worry!

I wanted a snazzy landing page for my 6-week mental fitness program, and whoever I hired had to understood my vision and what I was trying to achieve with the design — capturing the essence of what I do in a simple way.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Where we started with the website design was very different from where we ended. I came to them with a plan, but they were very kind and let me go back many ties to repeat it and tweak things. They even brought in a different designer when I wasn’t pleased with the output.

They built the site on WordPress and included the ability to upload video. In terms of the layout, there are scroll-overs where information will pop up, as well as numerous buttons that open links to new pages with even more information. It’s also mobile friendly.

What is the team composition?

The owner liaised with me directly, and I emailed with a designer and a developer. The owner drove the process, however.

How did you come to work with Why Matters?

The owner was actually a client of mine, and we decided to swap services, since I knew nothing about websites.

How much have you invested with them?

I gave them around $1,000 of my mindfulness services in lieu of direct payment.

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked together from July–December 2021. I’m going to continue working on the site with them to build out attachments and further improve the design. They may even build a website for another one of my companies.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

There was never a point where Why Matters made me feel like I was asking for too much. We went through multiple iterations, and they even swapped out the designers but they only wanted me to be happy. The final site nailed my exact vision.

How did Why Matters perform from a project management standpoint?

I had zero issues — completely felt like I could trust the process. There wasn’t any stress. We communicated through WhatsApp, email, and Zoom.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Why Matters’ team was 100% invested in making my vision appear on the webpage. They were so committed to getting it the way I wanted that they really listened to me. I never had a genuine concern about them.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They responded in a timely manner, and everything was done when I wanted. I don’t know what more I could really ask.

Don’t hold back. Be honest about what you want and require. If you’re unsure if they’re capable of something or if it’s feasible, just ask. Ask them things, rather than demanding them. Finally, be excited about your project because they will match your energy.

I already had another marketing company produce the design for the website, so I passed this on to Why Matters who specialized in creating Shopify sites. They developed the website from scratch and did it within the deadline that we agreed upon. 

Why Matters also followed my requirements for the layout and wording and integrated the pictures that we needed on our e-commerce website. Their team built the necessary sections on the product page and implemented our other specifications.

We’ve worked with  two people from their team: the director and a web developer.

I searched for web development companies on Google and found Why Matters, along with other developers, listed on a website. I decided to reach out to them because their price fit my budget. Though they were fully booked when I called them, they were still able to squeeze my project into their schedule.

We’ve spent around £1,500 (approximately $2,000 USD) on their services. Why Matters has also provide one month free of charge for any required alterations.

What is the status of this engagement?

I started working with them in December 2021. The website has been completed, and we are now working on SEO and the brand launch.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The site hasn’t been advertised yet. Right now, I’m simply using it to gain insight into its function. I am quite satisfied with the design and how Why Matters was able to complete the project within the set timelines and budget. They’ve executed everything as I wanted. 

How did Why Matters perform from a project management standpoint?

Their communication skills are great. Anytime I’ve tried to get a hold of them, they are there to provide support. The director is always available, keeps a close eye on the project, and constantly provides me with updates. They’re very good at what they do.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Why Matters really knows what they are doing. Other marketing agencies that I’ve contacted will say that they have the expertise, though it does not reflect in their work. Why Matters, however, not only completed the work to a satisfactory degree but also completed it on time.

The communication we have is also something that one doesn’t see everywhere else. They have the capacity to think from the customer’s point of view, which makes them different from others. They can advise their customer accordingly thanks to this skill.

I’m one of the founders of Construction Carbon, a company that provides carbon scoring and net zero verification processes for construction projects. We make sure that all of the carbon associated with a certain project is measured, reduced, and offset.

Our company is quite new so we were looking to raise awareness around our concept. We hired Why Matters to help us promote our services through a stealth marketing campaign.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We went into this project with the goal of getting the word out to some influential people and thought leaders in our industry. Why Matters helped us carry out a stealth marketing campaign, specifically assisting us with ads on LinkedIn and Google. We are a B2B company, so we mainly targeted business.

Ayo (Managing Director & Online Marketing Manager) was our primary point of contact. Marcos (Senior Shopify Developer) also corresponded with us from time to time.

We came to know of Why Matters through a shared workspace. When it came time for us to look for someone who could help us with social media marketing, they were the first agency I thought of.

We began paying a monthly fee of $500, but we eventually worked our way up to $1,000 a month.

We started the engagement around February 2021. It is ongoing.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Since our partnership with Why Matters, we’ve definitely gotten ourselves in front of our target audience. We’ve worked our way from having 2–3 leads a month to getting 2–3 leads per week and then to, now, securing 1–2 leads a day. It has definitely picked up quite well.

We use Zoom, WhatsApp, and email to communicate.

Why Matters is really good at getting stuff out and understanding the mechanisms of paid searches. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We weren’t able to provide clear branding and tone guidelines to Why Matters. I believe they could have done better in drawing that from us or perhaps organizing a branding workshop to understand our message and business. We’re hoping to see them take ownership of the marketing strategy instead of looking to us to take the lead on it.

Be clear about your brand, message, and objectives. Prepare briefs and guidelines that Why Matters can use.
