Welby first analyzed the current online brand and conversion tools, and provided an analysis of what was working, what needed tweaking, and what needed an overhaul. Next, they began building a powerful, cohesive online presence - optimizing the website, fixing holes in the conversion experience, building online marketing, and systematizing everything so that it was infinitely testable and trackable. 
Now that the client's revenue curve is moving in the right direction, Welby will be focused on building out tools and ideas that will 'throw gasoline on the fire' - from developing promotions to optimizing existing marketing.

Even after a short time on the project, Welby Consulting has begun moving the revenue needle in the right direction. Welby has also built tools that enable client to measure critical insights from customers and prospects - including what they want from the business. 
Welby has increased efficiencies in the conversion sequence - everything from tracking to ensuring phone calls were recorded and tagged for keyword optimization. Welby has done all this in a timeline dramatically quicker than competitors, with professionalism and enthusiasm that is tangibly higher than competitors.

If anything, I'd say Welby's sharp thinking and boundless enthusiasm generated so many ideas for improvement that we needed to devise a system for prioritizing initiatives. Nice problem to have!

I manage the business development at a garden center grower and wholesale plant retailer.

What challenge were you trying to address with Welby Consulting?

Our team needed a new marketing director to help us with our online presence and give us strategies to improve our promotion. We really wanted to understand what was the best use of our spending and what promotion channel would give us the most returns, whether it was YouTube, Instagram, Google Ads, or Facebook Ads. We were looking for the best way to move forward from a growth perspective. 

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Welby Consulting is helping us with our social media marketing, and managing our ad spend. We’ve moved some of the things we were doing on YouTube, and started spending more money on Google Analytics and Google Ads. In addition to that, we are creating a wholesale online store, and they’re working with our consultants, making sure that is up and running.

They are also helping us with our SEO efforts in our current website and online store. They’ve fixed their issues and done technical upgrades, making sure they’re working properly. 

We talked about our desire to improve our online presence, and potentially our Canada-wide presence. Welby Consulting explained their process to us very clearly. We didn’t move forward with it because it’s more than what we're willing or capable of doing at this point in time. 

We also have thoughts of moving everything from Shopify to WooCommerce. However, we haven’t made that decision because we’re in the middle of a busy period — we won’t be doing anything on this issue in the next three months.

I worked only with Grant (President) — he’s been a full-time consultant for us.

We put out a job posting looking for a full-time marketing director to be an employee, and Grant answered the ad. He had all the requirements in spades — he was more than we were looking for. It was a good opportunity to onboard somebody different from what we were used to. He came in as a full-time consultant and employee to lead our marketing team.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Welby Consulting in January 2021, and it’s an ongoing project. Starting in May 2021, we’ll be working on a contract basis, instead of full-time.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Our industry has been growing like crazy during the pandemic. It’s still early on our relationship with them, and it’s difficult to attribute all the growth to them due to the growth we experience within the industry. In addition to that, we have spent a lot of time fixing issues from our software and website, and collecting analytics. Therefore, it’s too soon to collect any metrics. However, we’ve seen an increase in the specific things we are advertising. The items that we moved up the list on Google Ads are getting our website back up and running.

After all the analysis is done, I’m hoping to get to the point where we have fairly consistent and focused marketing plans that demonstrate what everything should look like going forward.

How did Welby Consulting perform from a project management standpoint?

We don’t use any project management tools because Grant is a full-time employee working on contracts. Our communication is either face-to-face or via email. Right now, we’re at the point where we start looking for a new project plan.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Welby Consulting’s breadth of knowledge is the most impressive about them. They understand data analytics and what that means for an organization. Their work is very detailed, precise, and informative— we’re figuring out at what point we should bring this into our own business practices. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

We aren’t ready for the changes that Welby Consulting is proposing—  it might be too much information for us. The investment, from a money and people perspective, required to get where we want to be are not what we want to spend at this point in time. 

Any advice for potential customers?

The outcome of the partnership between the consultant and Welby Consulting has to be very clear. We weren’t ready for all the answers they gave us, and that should’ve been discussed up-front.

We’re a thread manufacturer and wholesaler. We have several types of specialty threads for hobby sewing, whether it’s quilting, doing embroidery, garment sewing, or anything in that scope. I’m the marketing director for the company.

We wanted help with our Google ranking. We hired them for advice on our SEO, as well, since we’d never really done e-commerce work before.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We created our website and they came on a few months later. At the time, it began with their team doing an SEO audit to see where we should change things. They worked with us to get our Google Analytics set up, along with our Google Ads and things like that. 

They’ve done a bit of consulting, but they also help implement the campaigns and work, too. We send their team copy and creative to get their input on the wording and look for different channels. We do the same for our newsletters, too.

I was doing some research for SEO consultants that are local to me. After reading through some reviews, which I actually found on Clutch, too, it helped me decide to reach out to Grant.

Between August and September, we did see our revenue increase by about 140% online, but we did a lot of things in-house, as well.

I did notice our presence on Google has helped us a lot. I’d say about 30% of total sales are coming from Google Ads, which we didn’t have before. I saw an increase in basket size sales and the average value for a cart, as well.

They’ve met my expectations in terms of communication. They are really clear. If I haven’t thought of something, Grant will send me ideas or things he’s found online, too. Throughout the week, we touch base through video conferencing or he’ll come into the office for a quick meeting. He’s been really easy to work with. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

I like that he understands our needs and he works hard to meet our expectations. He is always coming up with new solutions to reach our goals. He’s taught our team a lot of different things, which has been helpful.

I honestly can’t think of anything right now for them to improve.

It’s important to know what your goals are when looking for these services. I was partially clear, but I’ve learned a lot more in working with him. You can’t just be broad about your goal, so make them defined and know how to measure them.

My client is the only company that seels race car wheels online, typically they’re sold through dealers. We wanted to better understand our audience through a PPC environment.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We’re early into our relationship with them, but they’re growing into the role of being our SEO and PPC partner. So far, they’ve thoroughly looked through our new website to ensure that we’ve structured the platform best for SEO purposes. That way, our services start organically ranking higher on search engines. 

They’re working directly with our team and CEO on SEO and PPC strategy. Additionally, they’ve rolled up their sleeves and involved themselves in the implementation of said strategies as well. While they’ve mostly handled SEO work to this point, PPC tasks will start to ramp up soon.

Since we’ve started our engagement with them, online revenue has increased by about 35% and there’s been a 17% increase in users. Total conversions through online channels are also up by about 10%. While these increases can’t solely be attributed to them, they definitely played a role in bettering our digital presence.

Grant is a great communicator. Even when we were the cause of delays, they over delivered with SEO tips and advice. We receive regular updates and reports on our site performance as well. They’re great at delivering according to deadlines and equating their work to our bottom line. We communicate over phone calls on a weekly basis and on email every few days.

They're conscientious and keen on delivering according to our needs. SEO and PPC are confusing for many, but they do a great job of helping us understand their processes. The results speak for themselves.

Focus their work directly on your bottom line. You should always be able to draw a direct connection from their work to your bottom line. Taking an entrepreneurial approach will help.

We were trying to go lead generation through SEO and social media on our own but weren’t getting any traction. After we got in touch with them, they created our website, handled SEO, and took over Facebook Ads campaigns.

What was the scope of their involvement?

We started without a great digital footprint or presence. They examined our situation and developed a plan to boost our SEO from the ground up. Their team was able to put everything under the microscope fairly quickly.

Prior to them coming on board with us, we had a basic, rudimentary website that we built ourselves. It gave us an online presence, but it left us without an identity. On that front, they produced creative assets and got us on Instagram. By including our lead form and application materials on the site, they helped us weave contact information into our CRM. Within the first few months of working with them, we’ve generated over $1,500,000. The cost per lead has been very low compared to what we’re used to. Our investment with them has been nominal compared to what we got out of it.

A few months after hiring them, our revenue shot through the roof. We went from generating bogus leads from social media into converting consumers and narrowing our market. Our ads are now targeting the right people, and they’re making purchases with us. It’s been remarkable.

I have been operating in Calgary for around four years, and the main challenge has been to bring in work. Google is our main source of traffic, but there is a lot of competition. My challenge was to establish an efficient way of getting clientele from Google. I had worked with other SEO and PPC consultants, and all of them failed. I had almost no results through those long-term relationships.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Without conversion data, Welby was able to reorganize our PPC efforts to be more efficient. They then advised us on website, branding, and SEO changes necessary to upgrade our overall marketing quality. In the past 12 months, we’ve spent $150,000 making the changes they’ve suggested for our website.

After that, we brought in more electronically-generated conversion data to establish a better understanding of how leads are processed through our system. We recently restructured our personnel, getting rid of nearly 90% of our consultancies, but we kept Welby. That should show how much we value their work.

Unlike most consultants, they’re autonomous and proactive, accomplishing things without having to rely on us. A lot of companies offer the same services Welby does, but it’s difficult to find someone who’s as good as them. They follow through and do their best work on every project.
