Introduce your business and what you do there.
We build shopping cart software. I am a project manager for the company, in charge of customer service and new product development processes.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Websoft Depot?
We needed to import hundreds of thousands of products from multiple data sources.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Websoft Depot provided a solution for our migration challenge. It's an ongoing process for which we'll never have a definitive solution, but the process itself is the most important part. Websoft Depot has done a great job in communicating and working with us.
Websoft Depot has pulled e-commerce product data from multiple sources, matching up products between these sources. Avoiding duplicate products has been one of the biggest challenges we've given Websoft Depot. We match up product and manufacturer identifiers, UPC [Universal Product Code] numbers, and any other information which can be used as a standard identifier for a single product. After this, Websoft Depot has to determine which content is most appropriate; some data suppliers don't provide substantial content. Websoft Depot is also helping us identify the best pricing from our suppliers.
The project is a hybrid of development and data mining. We don't deal with user data, which is what comes to mind in the case of data mining, but we do scrub data in order to find the appropriate product content. On the front-end development side, we have worked with Websoft Depot's team in order to populate and categorize our platform. Our UX team determines what the best categorization is for our products, based on different criteria.
The software built by Websoft Depot has different inputs, both from suppliers and from us. There are quite a few details between those.
How did you come to work with Websoft Depot?
We had already worked with Websoft Depot on a number of other projects, so there was no big search.
How much have you invested with Websoft Depot?
This is not my area, unfortunately.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Websoft Depot 7 years ago. We have an ongoing relationship.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Could you share any evidence that would demonstrate the productivity, quality of work, or the impact of the engagement?
Websoft Depot's quality of work is great. We've built a custom software, which is a continuous process. No other team could have built the solution any better.
How did Websoft Depot perform from a project management standpoint?
In terms of our working relationship and response times, we maintain constant communication with Websoft Depot and receive regular updates and feedback. We have had new staff on our side, which Websoft Depot has been willing to train for the software. Overall, the experience is positive. Websoft Depot has delivered on time and on budget.
What did you find most impressive about Websoft Depot?
Websoft Depot's development process makes the company unique. They build in increments, starting with prototypes and drafts of new features, for which we are required to provide feedback. I don't know how many other companies do this, but from my experience, it's not a normal practice.
Are there any areas Websoft Depot could improve?
This is a tough question for me to answer. Websoft Depot is constantly trying to improve, asking for feedback on what can be done better. I've given them all the possible feedback already, and Websoft Depot has made those changes. It's not a perfect company, but I don't have any negative comments for Websoft Depot at the moment.
