BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m a co-founder of a tech startup launched about three years ago. We have clients in the US and Europe, including the Nordic countries, Belgium, and Romania. 

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with WebMagnat?

We offer services in the machine learning space, and our tech stack is mainly .NET and other Microsoft-related technologies, and full-stack JavaScript—Node.js, React, and Angular. We worked with WebMagnat on client projects for which we didn’t have the skill or capacity.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

WebMagnat provides us both staff augmentation and full development services. For opportunities that we could not approach by ourselves, we partnered with them to take over parts of those systems from end to end. Their expertise is around PHP—specifically Laravel—as well as Vue.js, which we lack the in-house expertise to handle.

What is the team composition?

We’ve usually worked with smaller teams of 2–4 people, depending on the size of the project.

How did you come to work with WebMagnat?

We’re part of the same tech community in our city, which has about half a million people and no more than 25,000 developers. We initially provided some consultancy to WebMagnat on refining their delivery process about five years ago. We came to know each other and found that we had complementary expertise and similar interests. Since then, we joined up as partners on various opportunities.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent less than $100,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with WebMagnat around five years ago. We don’t have an active project right now, but at the next available opportunity, we plan to bring them in on a joint effort.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The feedback from our team has been very good. We can work with WebMagnat closely because of our geographic proximity, but they also do well with our remote clients.

How did WebMagnat perform from a project management standpoint?

WebMagnat is proactive and professional. They don’t wait to be asked for results; they just update us. Like everyone else in our community, WebMagnat uses a transparent way of working. Their team uses agile development, open boards, daily updates, reviews, retrospectives, and so forth. We’re using the usual remote channels such as Skype, Microsoft Teams, and Slack.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re professional, perseverant, and serious about the relationship. If WebMagnat commits to something, they’ll do their best to make it happen. That’s very much appreciated. This service not necessarily easy to deliver at times, but they’ve done their best to make it happen. When it wasn’t possible, they were proactive in announcing it promptly so we could mitigate whatever the issue was.

Are there any areas they could improve?

In certain situations, I would’ve liked it if they could provide more capacity. However, this is the reason we initially went to them, so I could say the same about our organization.

Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?

I’d recommend talking with Delian (Owner, WebMagnat), who’s a very smart and serious person as well as open and transparent. He’ll figure out ways to work with you.
