I’m the Co-Owner of Spruce Up Northwest, a small roofing company that specializes in residential roofs and roof replacements.

What challenge were you trying to address with Webfor?

We needed to replace the website that I created using Wix. Although it was decent compared to our local competitors, it didn’t perform well on search engines. We weren’t even ranking highly in the local community, let alone for the Portland area, which we hoped to target. As a result, we reached out to Webfor to use their expertise to make our website look much more professional and ensure that it was optimized for search engines.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Webfor has replaced our website and provided SEO services. They've used WordPress to build the site and completely customize it from scratch, giving us a few variations to choose from and select the one we like. They've also suggested color variations to fit our northwestern company's color scheme: dark blue and dark green.

It's less than ideal when our customers call us to schedule a meeting since we're a small company and we can't always answer the phone. Through competitive research, I've found a third-party company with a scheduling system that I want. Jason has helped me determine what to do by looking at the site's source code. I've purchased a subscription with the company, and Webfor has helped us implement that system on our website.

Additionally, they've helped us put a loan calculator on our website, which is also a big deal for our customers. The team has also implemented a blog to increase traffic through search engines, created targeted pages for all the cities we were going after, and provided maintenance and hosting services.

For SEO, I've done a lot of keyword research in the past, so Jason and I go through targeted keywords together. The team makes recommendations, and we go down the list. They've taken my previous site's content and ensured it was all in one voice. They have a particular format that the content follows to sit on the site, so they've changed about 70% of the content.

What is the team composition?

I've worked with a designer, a relationship manager, an account manager, a marketing person, developers, and the SEO team. Currently, Jason is the only person I work with; he does all the quarterbacking.

How did you come to work with Webfor?

Previously, I worked for a corporation where I was in charge of the website and SEO. I used to go to a networking event called SEMpdx and looked it up. Webfor was a sponsor of SEMpdx, and Webfor's owner used to be the president of SEMpdx. Their association with SEMpdx gave them a lot of credibility with me. I didn't want to mess around; I knew what I wanted. I didn't want to test other organizations that maybe wouldn't work out, so I was okay jumping in with them.

How much have you invested with them?

We've spent around $35,000. The monthly charges for hosting and continuing to create content are around $1,300.

What is the status of this engagement?

We've been working together since July 2023, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Jason sends me monthly reports, which I love. We go through it in detail, and we've seen a 200% increase in leads since we started working with them.

With the scheduling system as an option, it's a much better process for our customers and us. We've noticed a huge difference and had many more appointments.

How did Webfor perform from a project management standpoint?

They've done great, with the exception of losing a developer in the middle of our project, which caused a delay. However, the delay hasn't impacted us. I've signed off on every page, and it's hard to keep up, so it feels okay that we have to slow down.

If I want custom development done, Jason communicates directly with the developers. The SEO team provides reports and updates, but they give all that to Jason, who directs the team. They regularly communicate through email, Zoom, Google Meet, and phone calls.

Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?

Jason is amazing; he has given me an overview of everything they could do for me and has made me feel confident in their services. Jason handles everything, so I don't have to. He provides reports and sends me a nice summary report with my action items, the team's action items, and all the traffic. Jason is proactive and thinks about the future direction of my site. He knows what the team can and can't do, so it's good to have that one point of contact that interfaces with each of their teams.

What did you find most impressive about them?

Jason's ownership of our site is impressive. I have worked with many other vendors, including website developers, and had to push them. However, it's the opposite with Jason. He's always very accessible and pushes me forward so that we can get this thing launched. I have not worked with other vendors with such a high level of ownership.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They should make sure they have enough developers available to support their projects. They could also own the content being written a little bit more. For example, we're releasing gutter replacements, which are new for us. I wish I could say that we're releasing gutter replacements, and they could be proactive and figure everything out from there. However, I have to give them more direction, and I don't necessarily have the time to sit down and think about it.

Be ready to work really fast or set the expectations with them if you can't work that fast. They're going to kick out content very quickly, and you have to be on top of it so that the website isn't delayed.

We hired Webfor at an integral time upon acquiring our largest competitor in the market. Specifically, we had to redirect an existing marketing site and landing pages, as well as a robust SEO directory with over 100,000 pages. Some KPIs were to: 

• Preserve at least 50% of traffic to back to the main website 
• Boost overall KW presence, as seen in search console 
• 1:1 Redirects for every page possible, and suggest content changes to existing pages 
• Redirect the entire site within 2 months 
• Update backlink profile

The goal is to overhaul the company website to provide for better organic search results in key areas of home inspection and ancillary home inspection services such as Radon testing, sewer line inspection, stucco inspections, EIFS inspections, and others. The goal is to also attract new partners in the form of realtors that contact us and hopefully become new active referral partners. 

The deliverables are to optimize on and off page mechanics to see a noticeable organic search engine ranking and website traffic. To date, we are seeing more click throughs, more phone calls, and more new site visitors. New pages are being implemented for key locations in our region and current services pages are being optimized for better ranking and more traffic in hopes of increased conversions in the form of scheduled inspections.

A new social media campaign has also been launched to increase brand awareness and built more following in our industry. Currently, Facebook and LinkedIn are being utilized with Instagram just beginning to come online.

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We are seeing a noticeable and significant amount of measurable increase in website traffic, phone calls generated from organic search results, and keyword rankings for our target goals. We are also seeing an increase in the amount of followers on the recently launched social media campaign.

In the beginning, for the first few months, it felt like slow progress, but I was advised that the initial stages are slower to see results because there is a large amount of investigation and base layer preparation being done in advance of website and tool implementation to drive results. 

After that initial period, now, the holdup is me. They have a long list of items that have been drafted for website implementation and social media, and I am not able to keep up with their output. They are really cranking out the items that we are targeting such as regional landing pages, social media posts, and on / off page optimizations for our website. 

They have delivered everything and more as promised, and with the results beginning to really be displayed, I'm excited to dedicate more time to reviewing and signing off on their proposed changes. I think it is a very good investment and look forward to continuing this project for the forseeable future. 

The team is very quick to respond to any questions I have and any feedback I provide. Responses are brief, to the point, directive, and helpful which are all things I appreciate. As I mention above, any slowdown is due to my response time, not Webfor's.

There are multiple people dedicated to my project. There is a project manager that is responsible for communications and aggregation of data along with period meetings regarding results. There is a content copywriter, there is a search engine optimization person, and there is a social media person. All of these people combine to pour content, strategy, and direction into our project. Love it!
