Peemz custom e-commerce website Image

Peemz custom e-commerce website

REQUIREMENTS

Since Peemz already had its mobile application already coded, and they were relying on a back-end coded in Django framework that already had populated database and rest-api end-points, our task was to develop the front-end for the web version of the shop that would later be connected to the back-end by their in-house team.

We were about to code about 25 different responsive and

optimized pages with various components that could be reused.

HOW WE DID IT

Peemz web shop was coded in our standard front-end starter that is based on: Bootstrap 4, Sass (with BEM, SMACSS structure and naming conventions), and jQuery.

We implemented custom price range-sliders, carousels, logo SVG animation for the homepage etc.

Ordering and payments pages were a bit tricky to do for the mobile view, but we came up with a solution to have “sticky” continue button placed at the bottom of the screen, that when clicked, would slide up a sidebar (that is by default shown on the right hand side on desktop view), so that even in a scenario where a user would have for example 20 products added to cart, wouldn’t have to scroll all the way to the bottom of the page to continue.

Tech: jQuery, PHP, HTML, CSS

Silipint's new Woocommerce website Image

Silipint's new Woocommerce website

REQUIREMENTS

Silipint team already had the design for their new site, and we were about to code it. The idea behind redesign was all about functionallity changes, easier user experience, and more intuitive admin site management.

They needed the backend logic for how the new cart would work: free shipping and different gifts insertion based on what’s the current value of the

cart.

Second requirement was to have the possibillity of selling 2 products on the same product page (Cup as the main product, and a llid, complimentary and optional one), they would get the combined price on product page, but once added to cart, they would be added as 2 separate products for easier management and tracking.

HOW WE DID IT

Gifts for the cart are managed in a custom coded admin page unded Woocommerce. Silipint can easily add new rules and tweak the existing ones. They can add a “start” and “stop” checkpoints and the ID of the product that is supposed to insert into cart once site user reached set checkpoint. Technically speaking, this was done with WordPress’ settings API and ajax checking and calculation on the front-end on each cart interaction.

Product page is built as a variable product. Each main product (cup) has variations that each have their image, name and price that may differ. Complimentary products (lids) , also each having variations (image, name, price), and then attached to the main product under linked products.

New Dreamhost blog coded in Wordpress Image

New Dreamhost blog coded in Wordpress

REQUIREMENTS

Dreamhost needed their blog redesigned and asked us to code the blog based on the designs that they provided.

Aim was to get a more modern look and organization of their content on the blog, also there was a technical aspect of the project, where they wanted to have easier admin management of the ads for their main website from the blog itself.

Also, they wanted the

blog done from scratch and optimized to ensure fast load times.

HOW WE DID IT

We coded the blog on top of our clean wordpress starter that is based on Underscores skeleton theme, our SMACSS and BEM based SCSS structure for component based CSS and babel that enables us to write modern es6 that works in all browsers due to its javascript transpiling. We also used bootstrap native (to escape jQuery as a dependency) that in the end we stripped down to only the code we needed (navigation and grid system).

We achieved easy and intuitive ad management by utilizing WordPress’ Customizer API and extending the TinyMCE editor with custom buttons that generate shortcodes that are easily adjusted to editor’s needs (used on blog single templates, for “in-between the content ads”).

Due to “close to none” dependencies and optimizations that we did, we achieved great scores on GTmetrix and Google’s PageSpeed Insights: 94% score and load time that is under 1.5s. Total homepage size is 658KB.

Tech: WordPress, Javascript (es6), HTML, CSS

BACKGROUND

Please describe your company and your position there.

I’m the VP of marketing at DreamHost, an internet company specializing in web hosting.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

For what projects/services did your company hire Web Redone?

We hired Web Redone to design a blog theme using a Bootstrap framework.

What were your goals for this project?

We wanted to clean up the code of a legacy theme, improving the loading time and UX. Ideally, these custom improvements would increase engagement and generate more on-site conversions.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor?

I had already developed a professional relationship with the team by working on several other projects together. I’ve found that Nikola (Founder, Web Redone) and his team have always delivered quality results on time.

Describe the project and the services they provided in detail.

Our internal design team gave Web Redone an outline for a new theme, and they implemented it exactly to our specifications. Even though we didn’t provide a mobile plan, they developed a responsive design using Bootstrap. Now, the blog is compatible with both mobile and tablet platforms.

What was the team composition?

Nikola was our main point of contact, and he works with a number of other team members.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

Can you share any information that demonstrates the impact that this project has had on your business?

The load time decreased from 1.5 seconds to 400 milliseconds. Our Google rank has improved since they optimized our SEO. The average session duration per-user has also increased.

How was project management arranged and how effective was it?

Nikola led all project management efforts. After reviewing our wireframes, he asked a number of questions to understand the desired UX of the theme. It was refreshing to hear questions about points we hadn’t even considered. That showed the team was both invested in our happiness and the satisfaction of the end user. The team’s effective project management continued once the theme went live.

What did you find most impressive about this company?

In contrast to other web development vendors, Web Redone stands apart. The team’s judgment is aided by a great depth of knowledge. They built the theme wisely, and it still hasn’t needed a bug fix.

Are there any areas for improvement?

Web Redone deserves a perfect grade.

Feedback summary:

Web Redone delivered countless high-quality web products, pleasing all parties involved. Their team works diligently, going above and beyond for their client. They provide sage advice and expert ideas. Their skilled and responsive nature spurred continued engagement.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.

BACKGROUND

Introduce your business and what you do there.

I’m the co-founder of Bixlabs, an app development company that creates digital products for startups and enterprises.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Web Redone?

We hired Web Redone to assist with WordPress development.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

Web Redone has helped with six or seven development projects. Along with WordPress, they’ve also used HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Their team created websites for a variety of industries including healthcare and entertainment. They also work on internal processes for us, crafting on our sites and landing pages.

What is the team composition?

We mainly work with one developer.

How did you come to work with Web Redone?

We found Web Redone through Upwork.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve invested about $30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working with Web Redone in 2017, and the engagement is ongoing.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

Web Redone’s development of our initial site led to an increase in new clients. Their team excels at creating responsive and mobile-friendly websites. They can build a durable product with little information. Sometimes, our company engages with clients that need specific services that Web Redone offers. They’ve helped us maintain those customers.

How did Web Redone perform from a project management standpoint?

Web Redone communicates and expresses their ideas exceptionally well. Even though we’re in different time zones, they promptly respond to our messages through Skype and email. We’ve also used Asana. Their team goes beyond their scope when they noticed something isn't built. They can also work independently, with little guidance.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We’ve engaged with other developers, but I prefer working with Web Redone. Web Redone is skilled at bringing functional and responsive websites to life. Their team is attentive, suggests helpful ideas to better their work. They are easygoing.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Their organization for tracking the project could improve. Instead of an invoicing system, they use email. We should ask them for a more robust system for those areas.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

It’s important to have a project management system in place to track each element of the project. Be sure that billing is clear for everyone involved.
