We Make Apps provides a complete suite of services covering all aspects of mobile app development, from consultation on strategy and technology, through user experience and interface design, all facets of technical development and following through with long-term comprehensive support and hosting agreements.
Profile
We have been developing native mobile apps for iOS and Android devices since early 2011. Our business has produced more than 120 distinct apps for more than 60 clients.
All design and development work is done directly within our business, with all staff members full-time permanent employees working out of our office in Melbourne. We have extremely high levels of staff and client retention, which allows us to draw on the experience of staff that have worked with the same clients for years.
Portfolio
Our portfolio of apps reflects a very diverse client list, including federal, state and local government agencies, major corporate brands, successful startups, as well as small and medium sized businesses. We have partnered with a number of other advertising agencies and digital agencies to provide dedicated app development capabilities.
The nature of the apps developed by We Make Apps is similarly diverse and extensive and covers social networks, chat, video and audio handling, deep hardware integration, VOIP phone call capabilities, sophisticated map-based functionality, augmented reality (AR) and payment handling.
We do not have a specific sector of specialisation, with our apps being developed for a range of different industries including finance, insurance, telecommunications, government, building and construction, health, education, plus other specialised sectors too numerous to mention.

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a partner and project manager at a SaaS company offering a visitor management system for schools of different levels, from primary to high school, whether they are private, independent, or public schools. We currently service 2,500 schools throughout Australia, the UK, and New Zealand. Our service includes providing our customers with iPad devices and our software and managing their subscription-based accounts.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with We Make Apps?
We needed help with developing our iOS front-facing app.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We Make Apps has developed three customer-facing iOS apps tied to our SaaS offering — all three apps are different versions of the same visitor management system but focused on different verticals. These apps have been developed specifically for iPads. Among their features are a Bluetooth connection to Brother printers to allow label printing so that users can assign labels to visitors.
Additionally, it has features for signing in, taking photos, reading RFIDs, and scanning QR codes. The app also has an integration with Firebase for reporting whenever users find issues with our app.
Initially, we provided We Make Apps with the UI/UX designs we had done internally, as well as with the API that connects with our web-based administration portal. From there, they built the three apps from scratch. To this day, they keep supporting our iOS development needs. Whenever we need to add new features or find some bugs, they step in and help us out.
What is the team composition?
We usually work with two people from We Make Apps: a project manager, who I believe is also the owner, and a developer. However, the developer has changed over the years.
How did you come to work with We Make Apps?
We found them online. At the time, we wanted to develop a cross-platform communications app, but it was very difficult for us to find iOS developers who could also develop Android apps. We then found We Make Apps and realized that they weren’t too far away from us, so we hired them. Since then, we’ve had a very good business relationship.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together around Q4 2012, and our engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We Make Apps’ work is almost always on point on the first try — the quality of their work has always been fantastic. The applications they’ve built run fast and rarely have issues. Still, if we find issues, they quickly solve them to keep end customers happy.
How did We Make Apps perform from a project management standpoint?
We don’t have many deadlines to meet, but We Make Apps is still very responsive and works fast. For example, if we need something done by the end of the week, they get it done by that time. Moreover, whenever they quote a project, they deliver it within that quote. As for project management, we use a Trello board to leave comments regarding our different projects and go back and forth until tasks are completed.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Whenever we go to them with a problem or idea, they always come back with a great solution or way around it. They never say no to challenges, and they’re very reliable.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, I don’t think there’s something they could do differently. They’ve always been great to work with.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure that your scope is exactly what you want it to be to avoid wasting time.
