Wax Creek provided rebranding and website development for a community services organization. The team interviewed internal and external stakeholders and worked on naming conventions, color schemes, and a logo.
Thanks to Wax Creek's efforts, the new name and website have been well-received. The team was consistently highly responsive and met the project's deadlines and budget. Moreover, the client was impressed with the team's high-quality branding work.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I serve as the executive director of Embrave. We're an organization that provides community corrections and behavioral health services to individuals who are transitioning from prison back into society. Additionally, we collaborate with clients who are referred to us by various judicial districts throughout the state.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
Our company's name and branding were established several years ago. I believed that it was time for us to undergo a rebranding process.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
They conducted a comprehensive process. I had been through a rebranding before in a previous organization and job and was familiar with the process. Wax Creek helped us with naming conventions, color schemes, a logo, and a tagline for our WordPress website. They also created video interviews and presentations to be used on our website.
They did extensive stakeholder interviews, both internal and external. The Board of Directors and key community leaders who had worked with us were interviewed. Many interviews were conducted behind the scenes. Additionally, they created a website where individuals could share stories about our work, which proved to be impactful.
They utilized a video production firm to do all of the post-production work on the videos.
What is the team composition?
I interacted with two primary individuals and six others involved in the process.
Are there any employees from the service provider's team that you would like to give a shout-out to in this review?
Megan (COO & Director of Client Success) did an excellent job. She was highly responsive and actively engaged, working closely with me and my team. Stephanie (CEO & Creative Director) also did an excellent job of shepherding the process. I appreciated both of them very much.
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
I initially found the through Clutch. I’d reached out to six different companies. I did a competitive bid process, and Wax Creek responded to that bid and was one of several companies that came in and did a presentation.
I was thoroughly impressed with their initial approach and clear outline of how they intended to collaborate with us.
How much have you invested in them?
We’ve invested about $130,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in January 2022. The project has wrapped up, but I had a phone call with them recently about some maintenance issues and relative ongoing potential work.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
People love our name and the colors, and I've received positive feedback. People are very familiar with our organization, but when they hear the new name, they're impressed with it and think it fits well with what we do. People have adopted the name rapidly, and I'm happy about that.
Website traffic increase isn't central to our business, but I bet that we have a higher presence. The website is much more attractive than our previous one, and I expect that to grow in the coming months and years.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
They met the deadlines and stuck to the budget. As an organization, we slowed them down a little bit in the process, mainly because sometimes other things came up that we needed to address outside of this project. The Wax Creek team was very responsive and adjusted to our timeline.
They had a project management website that we utilized, and we also used email and Zoom calls for communication.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The quality of Wax Creek's branding work and the website was absolutely top-notch. I'm very impressed and pleased with it.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Our experience with some of the subcontractors used by the company could have been better. I suggested that they ensure that all subcontractors were vetted correctly to enhance their service delivery. I understand that these are common challenges that companies experience and just the normal growing pains of a company.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
I highly recommend following Wax Creek's process and scheduling regular calls with the team. We found these calls to be incredibly beneficial.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?
Very responsive. This project had many turns from the beginning, given changes in our business models and focus. Overall the use of the communication tools, Slack, Loom and Punchlist in particular really helped us to stay on course and were excellent.
During the web development phase there were times where it felt a little like playing telephone to get our ideas or changes through to the designer and there might be an additional project tool to use to help keep track of where in the project we were specifically. This was our first website development so it is hard to say what a good solution would be. Direct access to the web designer might be the answer.
What was your primary form of communication with Wax Creek?
Email
Messaging App
What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?
The ability to listen, process, provide feedback and recommendations, listen some more and constantly refine the output until it reached a point of being very unique and creative and amazingly beautiful while conveying distinct, clear and professional message(s). This felt like a true partnership, and we co-created something wonderful.
Are there any areas for improvement or something Wax Creek could have done differently?
All in all, we are very happy with Wax Creek and absolutely felt like they listened, heard, created and advised us in a way that was productive, fun and creative. In the spirit of trying to find room for improvement, perhaps a more systematic project management and scheduling of the website development might have made it go faster. Punchlist is a good tool for editing and capturing changes, but it is not really designed to identify priorities, critical path issues and project timelines.
This is for sure a two way street with customer and vendor and it was our first website development so it is not all that clear what a better solution would be. There were times where feedback was provided on Punchlist but it appeared that changes did not get completely reviewed or made so there were a few occassions where we provided the same input multiple times.
All that said, we would recommend Wax Creek to anyone and would love to partner with them and bring them into future projects with our clients.

Wax Creek provided web development services to a property management company. They built a WordPress website with a clean layout and simple workflow. They also built an interactive map for the home page.
Wax Creek successfully built a website aligned with the client’s brand identity, mission, and values. The new website has received positive feedback from the client’s team, who feel confident in its ability to convert residents. They mostly communicated via email but hopped on phone calls as needed.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m a marketing specialist for RENU; we’re a property management company. We have a national portfolio of single-family rental homes.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
We were looking to redesign our website experience to make it easier for prospective residents to find homes to lease.
Our existing website was complicated to understand because it had a lot of information about the several markets we service. My main goal was to redesign the website in a clean, organized way to provide site visitors with a straightforward UX. I wanted Wax Creek to give prospects access to the necessary information in the fewest number of clicks while leaving a lasting impression.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Wax Creek helped us redesign our website with prospective residents in mind. First, we had a detailed call where the team got to know our brand, mission statement, and value proposition. We also provided them with our brand guidelines, including our logo, color palette, fonts, and copy and picture guidelines.
They used our brand guidelines as a design starting point for the website. For example, we wanted all the houses on our website to be made from classic materials, such as brick, tile, and marble. I wanted those textures reflected in the website’s visuals, so the team sourced images aligned with our brand guidelines.
Once they understood the soul of our company, we discussed the functionality behind the features we wanted to represent on the website. Then, they shared the features with their website developer, who built an initial concept for us. After we approved the concept, they built the website on WordPress. Then, we went through two rounds of revisions before launching the site.
Since we have a national portfolio of homes, one of our challenges was to create a website that gave users a specific experience that was local to them. The team created a simple, user-friendly workflow through the website while representing our brand on a local and national level. They also built a map on our home page, clearly showing users our markets and how they should use the site. The map is interactive, so users can click areas on the map and view available homes for lease.
They helped with the set-up and configuration of hosting our website through a third party. They also continue to support the website from a maintenance standpoint.
What is the team composition?
We worked with three teammates: Stephanie (CEO & Creative Director), Megan (COO & Director of Client Success), and a web developer.
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
I had used Wax Creek in the past and had a great experience. I contacted them during our research process to see if they’d be a good fit for this project, and they were.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working on the project in November 2022 and launched the website in March 2023.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We had just as wonderful of an experience working with Wax Creek this time as we did last time. I’m really fond of the website, but I’m a bit biased since I’ve been along for the ride since the beginning.
We just launched recently, so I don’t have any data showing conversions or increased traffic. However, the website has exceeded our expectations. Wax Creek did a wonderful job tackling the challenges we faced in making the website relevant to potential customers across the entire nation. They went above and beyond to incorporate our brand guidelines in the fonts, shapes, and visuals they chose.
We use third-party software to show homes. While we were increasing the strength of our cookie disclaimer, the process interfered with our showing embed, but Wax Creek resolved the issue in a few hours, long before the site launch. Since the launch, everything has been smooth sailing.
As a team, we’ve focused on building a clear brand identity that represents the key components of our business rather than just having a beautiful poster in our office. Our core values are simplicity, integrity, and innovation. Wax Creek did an exceptional job helping us visually represent the combination of innovation and simplicity through the site’s design elements and menu navigation.
Partnering with Wax Creek has enabled us to show employees that we feel strongly about embodying our mission and values. Through building a new website, we’ve also shown that we’re dedicated to reinvesting in our company to foster growth. As a result, I’ve heard wonderful feedback from our internal team. They’re proud to send our website to people and feel more confident in the website’s ability to convert residents, which is great.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
Wax Creek performed well from a project management standpoint. Everything was very clear from the beginning, and I never had questions about the next steps.
When we started interviewing them, they presented a timeline of when they expected things to be fully launched. They did a great job taking into account how long it took us to compile materials and reset our expectations as needed. Overall, they excelled at setting expectations and delivering on them.
During the onboarding process, we used Zoom to set everything up. After getting up and running, we mostly communicated via email. When we needed clarification about something, they were quick to schedule a phone call with us to iron everything out, which was very helpful. We also used Punch List to manage website revisions, which made everything really easy on our end.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I like that Wax Creek made an effort to understand our needs and build a website according to our business goals. They knew that for our website to be successful, we required strong, thoughtful, and unique branding.
They did a good job asking why we wanted certain features to ensure they ultimately aligned with our goals. I appreciate how they looked at the whole picture from a marketing standpoint rather than just building a website because it’s what we asked for.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I have nothing they could improve on; all the hiccups we faced were on our end.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Show all of your cards and be clear about your website’s end goal. Share information about your end users and their behaviors, and be transparent about where you need the most help. As long as they have the information, Wax Creek will select the essential points to make your website effective.

Wax Creek worked on branding for a mortgage startup company. They developed the brand identity and created some copy, content, and collateral. They also made suggestions for the client’s marketing strategy.
In less than three months, Wax Creek successfully completed the deliverables. The team was responsive and available; they handled the project seamlessly, taking care of the timelines and budget. Communication was transparent and constant; they used Zoom, WhatsApp, and emails to keep in touch.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m one of the co-founders of a mortgage startup company. We’re mortgage lenders; we provide financial lending for people looking to purchase or refinance their home or property.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
Our goal was to build a website and create copy and content for it. We also wanted guidance on brand awareness and help with our campaign strategy and outreach.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Wax Creek helped us with our brand identity and some copy and content. Initially, we shared our culture, marketing materials, and the access to our website and some of the textbooks and decks we had. They gave us questionnaires and some papers to read and comment on. Based on them, we had some interview sessions with Wax Creek. They followed up and presented their initial interpretation based on what we were trying to do. Then, we had another session to verify their conclusions.
Additionally, they presented other ideas about opportunities around cold-calling, tendencies, conferences, and using PR and press. Although the goal was to get help with branding, they still created some content and collateral for us, including some pictures, an outgoing email, and a one-page flier for prospective clients.
What is the team composition?
We worked with 4–5 team members in total. We were mostly in contact with Stephanie (CEO & Creative Director) and Megan (COO & Director of Client Success).
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
We were looking at companies in Colorado and came across them. We looked at 3–4 vendors, but we had a good connection with Wax Creek.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about $25,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We began the project in May 2022, and they finished it in early July 2022. We’re currently considering what to do next.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We don’t have hard metrics because we haven’t gone to market. However, they’ve successfully completed some deliverables and measures such as the pictures, website, and content.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
We had no issues or challenges with the time or the budget. Communication was regular, transparent, and specific. They were responsive, communicative, and always available.
We used Zoom, WhatsApp, and email for communication. Additionally, we shared file directories on SharePoint.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They bought quickly into what we wanted to do, so they shared our passion. We also liked their responsiveness and the fact that we worked with senior teammates instead of juniors.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, we don’t have anything to criticize; it was an excellent project. We got what we wanted, and they were transparent and good at communicating.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be really transparent and clear about your goals. Communication and transparency are the most important aspects; you need to establish them early and ensure you have regular milestones to keep up with the timelines.

A training company hired Wax Creek to redevelop their brand identity and build a WordPress site. This involves designing their visual identity and hosting and maintaining the site, among other tasks.
The website has received positive feedback, thanks to Wax Creek's excellent work. The detail-oriented team took the time to conduct research and understand the client's company, allowing them to deliver a brand identity that accurately represents the client. They remain transparent and responsive.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this
client over the phone. Below is an edited
transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the CEO of The Ewing School. We do public speaking training for leaders and executives.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
We wanted to rebrand our business to elevate the services that we offer. We had started the company a few years ago and hadn't really put much intentional effort into our design, logo, or website. As we've been growing and targeting a more premium section of the market, we wanted a brand that matched that.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Wax Creek walked us through redesigning our identity and visual brand. They also built a WordPress website for us.
We started the engagement with a one-day in-person workshop, where we worked together to build our identity and figure out how we wanted that to come through in our brand. They took that and built out brand archetypes for us. The next phase involved coming up with the actual visuals of how that brand identity would be translated into how we present ourselves — they presented us with different concepts for our logo, color, and imagery.
Once we had nailed down the visual things, we went into building out a WordPress website. They also set up the hosting for us and helped us migrate content from the old site to the new one. They directed our domain and set up DNS.
We're engaging them for a maintenance package going forward, which includes doing all of the WordPress plug-in updates, monitoring and optimizing things like page load time, and giving us premium plug-ins to make sure that the website is functioning at an optimal level.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with Stephanie (CEO & Creative Director), Megan (Vice President & COO), and Kayli (Senior Project Manager).
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
We found Wax Creek through Clutch.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent around $25,000 for the branding and web development, and the maintenance is going to be $265 per month.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in February 2022, and the engagement is ongoing.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’ve received positive feedback for the new site.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
Wax Creek has performed well in terms of project management. They’ve been very transparent about the costs. They’re also great at driving things forward and are incredibly helpful and responsive.
We primarily communicate through Slack, Zoom, and email.
What did you find most impressive about them?
It was really important for us to not just have a new look but to feel like we were creating a lot of clarity for ourselves and our customers in terms of what we do, what we don't do, and the people we work with. Wax Creek used these brand archetypes based on psychological research and old-school scholars. We’re impressed with the amount and intensity of the research they conducted to help us figure out our brand identity.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I wish we had more clarity or resources when it came down to launching the website. This was the biggest investment that we’ve made in our business, so it was critical that we had a strategic plan for the launch and that we had all the pieces together in place.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure to be intentional and thoughtful with the feedback that you give them.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the chair of the board of directors for Meet America Inc., a corporation in Colorado. We sell local beef to customers throughout the state and wholesale to restaurants, butcher shops, and grocery stores. I also serve as the treasurer for the company.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
We needed to upgrade our logo and brand. When we started the company, we did it all ourselves, so we didn’t spend much money on it. However, we decided we needed a facelift to make the brand reflect who we were and differentiate ourselves in the market.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Wax Creek started with a strategy session to get to know who we were, what the company was about, and what mattered to us. Then, they used that information to develop a new logo and overall look for the company. Also, they worked on all the verbiage we’d use on the website and marketing materials. They turned our thoughts and values into a brand.
Besides the logo and wording we’ll use here on out, they also went into our e-commerce Magento site and put the new verbiage, look, and pictures. They essentially gave our entire website a huge facelift.
Initially, they told us the steps they’d take to help us with the new brand. They came up with the strategy, and there was a structure to it all. First, we had the strategy meeting, then we went to the verbiage, and then we integrated everything into the website. Finally, they gave us a brand activation guide.
What is the team composition?
We worked primarily with Stephanie (CEO & Creative Director), Megan (COO & Director of Client Success), and Kayli (Senior Project Manager).
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
We got associated with them through a referral. One of our shareholders knew Stephanie; he was very persuasive about trying them for our company.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent a little over $12,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started the project in January 2022, and they finished the work in May 2022.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We just started using the brand last month, so we haven’t had enough time for metrics or sales to reflect yet. However, we’ve gotten lots of compliments on our website. Everybody that has seen it, loves it. It’s definitely a massive improvement from what we had before.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
Project management was perfect. They charged exactly what they quoted us and stayed on schedule. They usually waited on us, then gently prodded us for the information. Also, they responded very well. One time, Megan suggested changing the company name. When I pushed back saying we wouldn’t be an easy client, they said they’d work with it. They responded positively and took the challenge.
We typically communicated through email and phone calls. We also had Zoom meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their biggest strength was caring. They cared enough to dive into what mattered to us, turning our values a nd thoughts into a brand that truly defined us. Some people are good at what they do, but if they don’t care, they won’t dive into your company. Wax Creek went the extra mile to define us, and it was better than what we could’ve done ourselves. It was brilliant.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything. I was blown away by them; I enjoyed the entire project.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
The more you can provide them, the more they can do for you. We were busy this year, so they could only work with what we’d given them. If you have time before the engagement to work on the content and what the company’s about, they’ll be more capable of providing you with what you’re asking for.

BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the HR manager at Conifer Excavating, an excavation company located in Golden, Colorado.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Wax Creek?
We were moving from the residential to the commercial market, and we wanted to establish credibility in our new space of business. We struggled establishing our presence online and in the community. This made it more difficult for us to move from residential to commercial.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
Wax Creek provided us with brand strategy, visual design, and website development.
They conducted a brand strategy experience, which was a one-day meeting where we talked about our brand and branding archetype. After that, they delivered a brand strategy guide that included our mission, values, and vision.
We also went through a visual project with them, and they created our logo, color palette, and customer touchpoints such as our business cards and letterheads. Additionally, they also gave us a seven-page website that focused on our move from residential to commercial using our new brand standards.
Our biggest challenge was the uncertainty in transferring into a new market space. To solve this, Wax Creek provided us with statistics and information about our industry and potential customers. Their business strategist made a big difference in creating a plan to market in this new space.
What is the team composition?
We worked with Stephanie (CEO & Chief Brand Strategist), Megan (Senior Business Strategist), Amani (Brand Coordinator), and Kyle (Website Developer).
How did you come to work with Wax Creek?
We found them through a mutual business connection. We decided to work with them because they took a different approach to branding. They talked a lot about our business’ personality and branding archetypes. Their unique approach sealed the deal for us.
How much have you invested with them?
We invested about $26,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our engagement lasted from January–June 2021.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
After working with Wax Creek, we were able to successfully move into the commercial space. We landed more jobs to the point that our employees grew from four to fifteen. In a tough labor market, our new brand standards helped us attract and retain the correct people for our position.
We had more work than we could handle, and we felt that our brand standards really represented who we were as a company. In addition, we had been receiving glowing reviews. We could attribute all this growth to Wax Creek.
How did Wax Creek perform from a project management standpoint?
Their project management was absolutely fantastic. They had an internal project manager that kept everything on track and schedule throughout the process. There were times when we were unable to meet the requirements they needed from us, but they accommodated us and kept the project on schedule despite our delays.
We communicated through email and weekly Zoom meetings.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Wax Creek’s personalized and streamlined approach to branding distinguished them from their competitors. They did brand archetyping, which also made them standout.
Are there any areas they could improve?
I can’t think of anything.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Make sure you understand your pain points. Although Wax Creek can help you identify those, if you know your challenges, you can make the most of your partnership with them.
