A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re a medical treatment clinic that does hormone replacement therapy, peptide treatment, and other medical treatments. I’m the director of marketing, but I wear many operational hats here.
What challenge were you trying to address with Wave Interactive?
We wanted to set up a website to be ready for organic traffic and SEO. It was already set up for conversions from ads and our placements in traditional media.
We wanted to establish ourselves higher up in the sales funnel to educate patients and eventually convert them into an appointment. There were also generic branded keywords we wanted to target, such as “medical clinic near me.” In short, we were hoping for our website to be a traffic generator in its own right.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Our initial project involved a redesign of the site to make it more compatible with search engines. I provided my vision, content, and intended audience in our early conversations. From there, they took on coding toward SEO best practices throughout every step of the redesign. We wanted to communicate our value through quizzes and interactive components as well, which we were missing from our original site.
After we built up the content on our site, they conducted a competitive landscape review and shifted their focus toward ongoing SEO improvements. They determined what kind of blogs we should be creating and what kind of content would attract the right audience for conversion. I’m no longer directing any of the content— they’ve taken over that part of the site.
What is the team composition?
I first worked with Peggy (Former Managing Partner). She left the company, so we had to transition our communications to Jamie (Vice President).
How did you come to work with Wave Interactive?
I’d worked with them in the past on a project for another company. During that time, Skeet (Managing Partner & Owner) and I worked very closely. He helped me get a lot done in that role. When we needed a team to help us with his project, I reached out to them based on my experience working with them in the past.
How much have you invested with them?
In 2020, we spent about $25,000 on their work. Our spend with them was about $45,000–$50,000 in 2019.
What is the status of this engagement?
We’ve been working together since around March 2019.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I measure their success based on how many patients sign up for treatment. We’ve been happy with their work and accountability against conversions on our site. If they didn’t make me look good, we wouldn’t continue spending money on their services.
We’re getting good traffic to the site as well as conversions through the platform. I’ve doubled the money I spent with them from last year to this year.
How did Wave Interactive perform from a project management standpoint?
We had some challenges with the design part of the project at the beginning of our work together. Some of that is our fault, but they weren’t holding me accountable for anything. We addressed this during a meeting, and everyone got on the same page. Everything has been wonderful since then.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I’m always confident that they care about our business and want to provide a good experience for us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It would be helpful for them to proactively come to us with new ideas for the site. I’m driving much of that at this point. However, I’d rather have them spend their budgeted hours addressing our requirements.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be committed to the long game. SEO requires a long-term commitment, but it pays off if you stick with it.
Based on the significant increases in site traffic and conversions since the beginning of the engagement, the client has doubled their money invested in the project over the past year. Wave Interactive overcame some initial miscommunications and has performed well since then.
