A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the COO at an insurance company that develops insured tech solutions. We integrate insurance products into a primary product while presenting secondary insurance for that primary product. An example of that is travel insurance on an airline ticket.
What challenge were you trying to address with Vision Infotech?
We hired the team for program development and maintenance services.
What was the scope of their involvement?
We have an ongoing engagement with Vision Infotech. Our team worked with them on the platform’s initial concepts, built, and now they provide routine maintenance. They developed an API and program management board which we currently use to manage our businesses. Their team is also responsible for any WordPress updates.
How did you come to work with Vision Infotech?
Our project manager at that time found them and contacted them. We don’t have the full details about how the engagement started since the past project manager moved to our affiliate company.
How much have you invested with them?
Since the project started, we’ve invested around $100,000.
What is the status of this engagement?
Our ongoing engagement began in October 2018.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
We’re happy with the work that they do. They take the concepts then apply them accurately to their work. The team also gets the job done on time.
How did Vision Infotech perform from a project management standpoint?
Understanding the conceptual framework of our business is important with a project of this nature. Otherwise, it would be difficult to program for us, and their team has a great understanding of our business model.
Right now, we're knee-deep into the project — there are about 5–6 ongoing tasks. To keep track of our progress, we use Asana and Slack.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their communication skills continue to impress us.
Are there any areas they could improve?
Anyone could still do better. That doesn’t mean that they’re doing a bad job, but there’s always room for improvement.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Understand their expertise — they’re developers and coders, you can’t compare them to designers. You have to instruct them accordingly to get what you exactly want.

What was the scope of their involvement?
Vision Infotech provided software and product development services for us across multiple projects. They helped build our platform from scratch based on the requirements we provided. The site allows certified professionals to post their certificates on our website and employers to reach out to hire them. Vision Infotech also provided testing services for us.
How did you come to work with Vision Infotech?
We found them online. We liked their profile and the positive reviews they had, so we hired them.

We have a KPI team that measures the effectiveness and key performance of their work, including net profit margin, operational cash flow, etc. They have achieved set targets in record time, and we’re happy with them.

What did you find most impressive about them?
They’re reliable and experience, setting themselves apart from the competition.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They could be a little more accurate in timeline estimates.

WordPress Website Integration for Ad Agency
"Their custom-built systems are still good and still used today, even though they were designed five years ago."

the review
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the president and founder of our ad agency Foundry512.
What challenge were you trying to address with Vision Infotech?
We hired them for quite a few projects. The most marquee projects were website development for our clients and even our own website.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Vision Infotech was able to execute some pretty advanced technologies for one of our client’s websites. We were able to pull in some social media feeds and some interactive pin droppers. You can explore using a Google map experience that we created that can walk you through the in-store displays and we were trying to get that to translate well onto a WordPress website’s CMS.
I was the creative director on that project and they were able to successfully integrate everything. It was a high level of sophistication for a simple website. We needed them to bridge the gap between a retail store with design-build inspirations, so the technical challenge was compressing a lot of interactive functionality.
We compressed and streamlined a lot of our codebase to help the website load quickly. It was a key factor in a lot of our SEO campaigns that we ran on the website later.
How did you come to work with Vision Infotech?
We are not really sure how we started to work with them, but I think what ended up happening is we were working with someone else through Upwork and they dropped the ball pretty badly. Then, I came across Vision Infotech on LinkedIn and hired them.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent $50,000–$100,000 so far.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working with Vision Infotech last July 2016 and we still have an ongoing project with them.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I would say it's hard to give metrics with development work because bug fixing is a thing on every project. However, Vision Infotech saved us about 50% of the cost we’d spend if we were working with an American company in San Francisco or New York.
The team is reliable and that allowed us to reduce some overhead costs. Some of the metrics are rather internal, like that reduced cost.
How did Vision Infotech perform from a project management standpoint?
I think Vision Infotech is pretty decent at managing the project. Like most developers, they usually have an onslaught of things that come at them at the beginning of the morning. So what we usually get are daily updates, which help us manage the timelines and deadlines. So when we report back to our clients, we're not going outside of the box and giving them any surprises.
The CEO and I have also worked on load balancing. What ends up happening is we might have him on one project and one of his developers on each other project. It might be a team of five from his team that we're working with and each one, instead of working on all of the projects, works on just one section of the project.
We have a flat structure, an integrated structure, and a hierarchical structure with how we load balance our work with his developers. It sounds complicated but it isn’t, we just work with whoever is free.
What did you find most impressive about them?
I would say the quality of the work when it comes to figuring problems out is most impressive. If there is a technical issue where we need something to work a certain way but don’t have time to deep dive, they have an uncanny way of creating workarounds.
Usually, workarounds can mean patch jobs, but they’re really good at making things sure things scale and stay working.
you hear of something like that, a workaround, and you're thinking like a patch job. They're really good at making sure things scale and stay working. So from that aspect, it's not just the quality of the code, it's the customization that they were able to pull off.
Their custom-built systems are still good and still used today, even though they were designed five years ago. This is a testament to how far he can make WordPress and WooCommerce go in terms of his development code quality.
Are there any areas they could improve?
This isn't a critique against them particularly, it's more like an industry-wide critique. People need access to better education in terms of how to be inspired by what’s best in class or what other developers in the world are creating.
I think if they could get access to more of those tutorials and follow more of those people, they're going to see exponential growth based on perfecting some of these things.
It’s not to say that they're not professional, It's just to say there's a difference between a developer who builds Facebook versus someone who's building WordPress. If we can get more of that inspiration, I think they can really push themselves further.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Be very clear with what you're looking to achieve. If you're just trying to code five quick templates and that's all you want, just be very clear about that. If you're looking for a long term professional engagement where there is recurring maintenance, be upfront. They can typically accommodate both things.
Know your scope and define it as well as you can. If you're going to them for development work, at the minimum, have wireframes for them to look at. If you want a really good cost estimate, you really need to show some wireframes.
While the engagement is ongoing, the client is happy with Vision Infotech's works. The group demonstrates their professionalism, organizing skills, and the ability to apply the client's concepts.
