Virtusai is a technology startup that was founded in 2015 and it is incubated in UPTEC TECH (www.uptec.up.pt) where it benefits from the surrounding academic and research facilities belonging to the prestigious University of Porto.

I’m a board member for an international fruit preparation company.

OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE

What challenge were you trying to address with Virtusai?

We had an existing application that collected and organized production line data. When we built the old platform, I had a very simple goal. When we have complaints regarding a batch number of our product, all the information we have on it needs to be readily available for the customer. We hired Virtusai to improve the tool’s usability and overall functionality.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

After reviewing the old application, Virtusai developed a new web-based application using Angular. It’s a traceability tool that collects data from different sources and organizes it for the user. The updated platform that they built includes new tools and functions that we never imagined.

What is the team composition?

We interacted with four different people throughout the project. Ricardo (General Manager & Co-Founder, Virtusai) was our project manager.

How did you come to work with Virtusai?

We considered several companies for the project and the Virtusai team quickly stood out from their competitors. They quickly understood our goals for the project and walked us through various mockups/concepts clearly and concisely. Other companies failed to convey what they would do specifically to improve the application.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent about £30,000 ($37,134 USD).

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in September 2016 and finished the platform in January 2017.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’re very happy with the tool they built. It’s very responsive on both mobile and web-based interfaces. They delivered on the promises they made at the start with very few changes/fixes required. Information on particular batch numbers can now be compiled in a Microsoft Word document in less than one minute.

Our quality team management oversees complaints, and the platform is extremely helpful in facilitating their daily workflow. They can now address customer questions more efficiently and accurately than before the update. As a result, our client side is very satisfied as well.

How did Virtusai perform from a project management standpoint?

In the beginning of the project, they didn’t use a tool to manage the information. It was very informal but still effective. They would likely need a more strategic approach to manage more complex projects. We did a project with them at the at the end of 2017 and they’d improved that part of the process.

What did you find most impressive about them?

They did a great job.

Are there any areas they could improve?

They could improve on the documentation they produce regarding the project.
