Introduce your business and what you do there.
I am the VP of e-commerce for Progressive Lighting. We are a manufacturer and retailer in the standard and premium lighting space.
What challenge were you trying to address with VELOX Media?
Our goal was to grow our e-commerce channel, and we had looked into a couple of other paid search providers but had limited success so far. We have a huge product set that makes it pretty tough to do paid search well, so we brought on VELOX to help us tackle that challenge.
What was the scope of their involvement?
Originally, I went to them for help with paid search but ended up hiring them to do organic work as well. They handled structural changes to the site and how we present our material, but the majority of their work came in the form of off-site SEO. That included keyword targeting based on our existing customer data and link building to help us start ranking highly for those searches.
What is the team composition?
There are five team members in total who we work with across their paid search and organic search teams. We have one central account manager who coordinates the various parts of our relationship, and then we work with a content team of two people and a paid search team of two as well.
How did you come to work with VELOX Media?
In looking for the right company to work with, I had done a lot of research among my connections in the e-commerce space. Several people recommended that I take a look at their team, so we had a few meetings to discuss how they run their operations and we felt very comfortable bringing them on from there.
How much have you invested with them?
We’ve spent about $120,000 for their services in total.
What is the status of this engagement?
The project started around July 2019 and is ongoing.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They’ve done an excellent job on both SEO and the paid search side for us. We’ve more than doubled our revenue across the two, which was a huge turnaround from previous years of continuously dropping returns. Now, we’ve seen not only the initial return but also that both sides are continuing to move in a positive direction.
How did VELOX Media perform from a project management standpoint?
Their team does a really good job of pushing us when we weren’t getting stuff done in a timely manner. I haven’t had any issues with under-delivering, and they provide regular reports that allow us to stay up to date and talk through all of the analytics.
We have weekly calls to discuss what happened in the last week and how we might be making any changes going forward, which I find incredibly productive and helpful for my peace of mind as well as the project.
What did you find most impressive about them?
Their level of effectiveness is not one that you find among very many outsourcing agencies in this industry. They’re very smart about figuring out what we should do and explaining why that needs to be done.
Our internal team has occasionally overlooked things that they then pushed us towards and turned out to be great decisions, so we have been very pleased with the overall quality of their recommendations.

I really can’t think of anything they could improve off the top of my head.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Trust them and the direction they push and continue to provide them with all the data and information they need to do well.

Quite a few online meetings and of e-mail chains to ensure that project's goals are aligned well with company goals, and that proposed strategies are aligned with company's marketing messages and do not conflict with B2B distribution model. I am very much appreciate how vendor's team was precise and responsive to all our requests and designed entire project.

Actually, we got input and communicated with all levels of the vendor's team, including executive management, protect manager, leaders of particular departments involved into project and direct project workers.

We have increased online D2C sales almost immediately and it continue grow. Overall traffic on website increased. Overall, searchability of brand in Google dramatically improved. Even our distributors got increase in the sales of our products via their online channels.

What was the team composition?
First, you have access to the brightest minds at VELOX whenever necessary. I've worked with my account manager primarily, however, we've had some special sessions where even the CEO was involved.
Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?
We've seen increased revenue across the board while setting up our foundation, and building content and staff to have a breakout year in 2020. We save tons of time not having to guess what moves to make across many areas of our business. That's worth more to me than most areas, except profit, of course.

The workflow is seamless and entirely effective. They've developed ways to integrate with our company that we never thought of. Really helped us implement and utilize their services.
What did you find most impressive about this company?
Their leadership has it's finger on the pulse of the company and it's reflected professionally throughout. That translates into an effective client product and relationship.
Are there any areas for improvement?
It's sometimes difficult to integrate your company with another as intimately as needed. With services as important as what VELOX provides, although I was anxious at first, I'm not sure they could have done better, but I definitely would have felt more confident had I known how smooth and effective the end product was at the start.

Very poor results. Link-building and off-site content confined largely to press releases on random aggregators and links on Quora. We saw very little movement and almost no growth in organic traffic. Domain authority did not budge and those on the account provided no solutions or real strategy to growing our organic presence, but they did try - numerous times - to also manage our paid search efforts despite our noted disapproval of their SEO work.

Bad. They sent occasional emails and did not ask for approval before publishing releases or leaving comments (how is that considered SEO work?). They used no tools to manage workflow or share results.

Nothing.

I was looking for an SEO partner to help us improve our Google search rankings and drive traffic to our website to help increase business leads.
