A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
We’re working in the renewable energy industry. Traditionally, companies operate as trading desks. Our company is a bit more complex – customers can buy special types of energy that fit their needs.
I’m the director of IT and engineering.
What challenge were you trying to address with Vector Software Ltd?
As the market has gotten more complex, we felt the need to digitize a lot of the work that was previously done manually. We needed a modern data warehouse and customer-facing webshops. That’s when we got in contact with Vector Software.
What was the scope of their involvement?
The most important thing they’ve done for our organization is put together the data warehouse. They also created UIs to help manage it.
It was built from scratch using Google and Microsoft technologies. We did provide wireframes and documentation.
What is the team composition?
We mainly work with developers.
How did you come to work with Vector Software Ltd?
They were referred to us by consultants.
What is the status of this engagement?
We started our engagement with them in 2017.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
I’ve been working with consultancies all over the world. Vector Software involves themselves in the process, similar to an in-house team.
Their team has metrics for everything, including recurring defects, velocity, and other scrum areas. The only real measurement involves asking around my organization and seeing what users think. It’s obvious that we couldn’t do what we’re doing without Vector Software.
How did Vector Software Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?
From a project management standpoint, they’re great. We used Slack for communication, and they worked using the scrum methodology.
What did you find most impressive about them?
There are no surprises with Vector Software. I’m always surprised by what goes on with various projects and teams. With Vector Software, they do what they say, and they say what they do. It’s comforting when managing an offshore team.
Are there any areas they could improve?
As an offshore consultancy, they’re doing it exactly the way it should be done. They’re the best offshore company I’ve worked with.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
They do have a solid process on how to manage R&D projects. As long as you involve yourself in the job, it’s going to go well.

Frontend Mobile App Dev & QA for Software Company
"They offer the full package."

A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the managing director of a small software company in Germany. We specialize in AI.
What challenge were you trying to address with Vector Software Ltd?
We’re a shareholder of a company that develops new kinds of city apps. It’s a mobile app especially for cities and tourism, with some AI. We’re backend specialists and needed help with frontend.
What was the scope of their involvement?
They do all the frontend programming and QA. They also help with design. If we’re having trouble with resources, they help us with the backend as well. It’s a Xamarin based app. The connection to our backend is Python API. The app is for iOS and Android.
They are partially responsible for the UI/UX. We have our in-house designer, but he works closely with them. One of the standard features is a search tool where users can find restaurants, retailers, and more in a specific city. We have tours. The system can propose you some tours, or you can create your own tour through a city. There are also some gamification aspects.
What is the team composition?
We have one full-time developer, a part-time tech lead, a QA person, some IT specialists, a junior developer, and a project manager.
How did you come to work with Vector Software Ltd?
When we started to search for a partner, I contacted people I knew. One of my contacts works for Vector Software Ltd. We talked to them about their business, and they pitched us.
How much have you invested with them?
We spent about €60,000 (approximately $72,300 USD).
What is the status of this engagement?
We started working together in October 2019, and the work is ongoing. We have no plans to end it.
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
They deliver everything on time and within budget. Often, they complete tasks before the deadline. We’ve had very few issues. The quality of the work is excellent.
How did Vector Software Ltd perform from a project management standpoint?
They provide weekly reports. We don’t use any specific tools, but we don’t need to because the team is small. We communicate via Google Meet. We also use email.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They offer the full package, and that makes the difference. They’re reliable. Their estimates are usually accurate, and the work is good.
Are there any areas they could improve?
It’s not a problem with them, but we need to have more interfaces to connect more people from both sides. This is an issue on our side. Soon, we’re planning to implement a ticketing system.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Ask for a long-term team. The most influential people in the group should be there for the entire duration of the engagement. I recommend working with them.
The team at Vector Software Ltd continues providing an efficient service to the client. They act as an in-house team, offering a skilled service and effective project management. They're communicative and solid.
