I was the former president of CHIEF Supply, a distributor of first responder equipment, and Lydia’s Uniforms, a distributor of medical scrubs.

What challenge were you trying to address with VDInnovation?

We were spending a lot of money on digital marketing, but we weren’t getting good returns. We needed someone who could optimize our marketing.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

VDInnovation first analyzed our spendings and earnings to help us figure out what we were earning on various platforms, including Facebook and Google. Then, they helped us rebalance and reallocate our dollars to the most profitable platforms. The team also set a limit to our digital marketing spend to ensure that even if we didn’t earn, we’d remain at a break-even point. The VDInnovation team also customized a program for each of the product categories we sold.

Our main point of contact was Vanina (Digital Transformation Officer).

How did you come to work with VDInnovation?

We put out a few listings, and they responded. We interviewed a few agencies, and VDInnovation came out on top.

How much have you invested with them?

We spent around $200,000–$300,000. 

What is the status of this engagement?

The project lasted from September 2017–January 2019.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Thanks to VDInnovation, our marketing efforts became more efficient. We saved around $50,000–$75,000 of spending after we stopped some of our campaigns that weren’t profitable at all. Once we did that, we began earning a lot more money than we were spending.

How did VDInnovation perform from a project management standpoint?

We liked their approach — VDInnovation did an outstanding job of being organized.  They were also communicative. Most of our meetings were in person, but we also used email and phone.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The team over-delivered and gave us more value than we paid for. Furthermore, they had a profound understanding of digital marketing and business economics. Overall, VDInnovation did a fantastic job.

Are there any areas they could improve?

To be honest, I don’t have anything critical to say about the team.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Engage with them from a business economics standpoint as well as digital marketing.

They primarily focused on social media marketing.

I worked with Vanina (Digital Transformation Strategist), and I believe she had a team of about 4–5 people.

We spent $250,000–$500,000 on VDInnovation’s services. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We worked with them for about three years from approximately 2013–2016.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

They performed well and met my goals. The top priority was increasing sales of our tax software. 

How did VDInnovation perform from a project management standpoint?

We had weekly in-person meetings. They were available to me 24/7, I never had a problem getting in touch with them. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

Vanina gives way more than the average employee and is highly committed. It can almost be intimidating for other team members.

Give them the opportunity to think outside the box.

We’re an independent school, and I’m the school purchasing agent as well as campus store merchandising manager.

What challenge were you trying to address with VDInnovation?

We were a brick and mortar store and wanted to expand our services online.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They helped us with e-commerce development, also incorporating products from other school departments into the store. The shop was created in Shopify, and they integrated it with our existing POS system. We were somewhat limited in our technology selection because of that, but they worked around that requirement. In our continued collaboration, she adds groups and products to the site, tweaking aspects as needed. 

What is the team composition?

We worked with one person throughout the process.  

How did you come to work with VDInnovation?

Our engineering department allows students to conceptualize and fabricate products. The son of the owner of the company was in this engineering class, so they reached out to me.  

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working with her since mid-2019.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

The feedback was phenomenal. Results were particularly impressive because this was our first website, so we were developing our online presence from scratch. We haven’t experienced issues, but it represents the school well and offers a strong UX.

We communicated with email, which worked well for this relatively quick project. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

They’re highly skilled, talented professionals. 

Are there any areas they could improve?

No, I don’t have anything negative to say about them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Think through the complete scope of the project. Our project evolved along the way, which can add to the cost of developments. Once they understand your goals, they’re better able to offer their services and additional functionality strategically.

I have worked with VDInnovation and Vanina for multiple years. I continue to work with Vanina because of her deep knowledge and experience in the space as well as her commitment to quality and customer focus.
