BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m on the board of directors of Reynolds Amalgamated, and we’re an oil and gas holding company.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Valor Mineral Management?
We have over 100 years of oil and gas mineral interests that have been divided and passed down generationally. We needed a lot of expertise in making sure all the details are correct and accurate over that period of time.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
For this project, Valor helped us digitize our records and make sure we had all the correct data in our files. Initially, they took all of our mineral oil field data and entered them into their proprietary web-based software called mineral.tech. Through it, we could go online anywhere and double-check whether we had any division orders or proposals for oil and gas leases.
This specific project is finished, but they still work for us in terms of actively negotiating our oil and gas wells, checking for errors in leases, making sure our royalty numbers are correct, and checking whether our ownership numbers are accurate. They’re combing through everything for us and making sure everything is accurate.
What is the team composition?
We’ve worked with Joseph (Co-Founder, CEO & CTO), Liz (Director of Operations), Matthew (Director of Land & Project Management), and an accountant. I’m sure more people have been working behind the scenes.
How did you come to work with Valor Mineral Management?
I found them through word of mouth, and I already knew their CEO. They also didn’t have much competition that I was aware of.
What is the status of this engagement?
We worked on this project from October 2019–December 2020. We’re still engaged with them for their other services, however.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
All of our business has been way more efficient. We can now access the long history of our files online, and we can see the hard copies that they’ve scanned in. It’s 100 years’ worth of data, and they’ve been able to go through all of that and add them to their database, double-check all of it, and let us know that we’re up to date.
We’re also no longer using paper files — some of which are more than 80 years old — in file cabinets. They’ve essentially digitized everything for us.
How did Valor Mineral Management perform from a project management standpoint?
Valor’s project management has been excellent. We communicated in person, via email, over the phone, and through text.
What did you find most impressive about them?
They’ve been very smart.
Are there any areas they could improve?
No, there aren’t any. I don’t really have anything bad to say about them.
Do you have any advice for potential customers?
Valor is an excellent organizer of oil and gas records, and they’ve streamlined our business. They’ve made things more efficient for us. If that’s what customers are looking for and they have a lot of recordkeeping to do, they should definitely work with Valor.
