I’m the owner of a startup company specializing in selling herbs and spices hard to find or not very common. We used to sell our products through Amazon, our website, and a couple of other e-commerce channels.

What challenge were you trying to address with Top Bros?

We needed a web presence, so we were looking for a partner who could help us with both the design and implementation work required. We were a small organization with a limited budget, so we were also looking for a reasonably priced option.

What was the scope of their involvement?

Top Bros provided us with web design and development services. On the design side, we provided them with a high-level idea of what we wanted to do on the website. Although our input was almost purely descriptive, we also provided them with 1–2 mock-ups, which they then fleshed out into a full design concept.

We went through 2–3 rounds of iteration on Top Bros’ designs, and once we were satisfied with the design, they started with the implementation work. They built the site on WordPress, using WooCommerce as the e-commerce engine and other plug-ins whenever they were available. They also did some plug-in customization and custom coding work.

In addition to that, they offered website administration and maintenance support. For example, we wanted to make sure that we were safe in case of data loss or data corruption, so they implemented an automatic backup system for us that kept rotating copies and archival copies.

Moreover, Top Bros helped us with SEO and website performance. They basically ensured that we were performing well on Google’s and other tests that evaluate websites for speed and mobile accessibility. As for SEO specifically, they ensured that our site had the right SEO tools and plug-ins to improve our SEO practices, and they also cleaned its general structure with the same purpose.

What is the team composition?

We worked with two main points of contact from Top Bros: Mike (COO) and another person who did administrative work. Additionally, I interacted with another person on the business side of things.

How did you come to work with Top Bros?

I don’t recall exactly how we found them, but I believe it was Upwork or another similar site. When we found them, they were reasonably priced and did a great job at providing us with an estimate that wasn’t greater than originally anticipated. They seemed to be very honest in their quote, so we hired them.

How much have you invested with them?

I spent $25,000–$30,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We started working together in 2018, and we’ve collaborated throughout the last few years on various projects. The other day (September 2022), I used them for a couple of things. However, we recently had to take that website down because we’re now focusing exclusively on Amazon.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

Once Top Bros started doing the redesign and SEO work, we definitely started getting a lot more traffic to our website, and it was decent-quality traffic. Additionally, they provided us with high-quality work overall. I can’t recall a single time I found a bug and had them redo something because they always QAd their work before delivering it to me.

How did Top Bros perform from a project management standpoint?

Our collaboration was freeform, so I didn’t provide strict deadlines. However, whenever I told them when something was urgent, they were very responsive. For example, if I sent them an email at night saying that the website was down, I would wake up in the morning and see that it was up again. We mostly communicated via email, but we had video calls now and then if something was very complicated to discuss over email.

What did you find most impressive about them?

The volume of quality work that I could get affordably from Top Bros was impressive. Other companies are economical but not reliable, and others do great work but are very expensive. However, Top Bros provided us with good quality work at a great value.

Are there any areas they could improve?

The only thing I would have changed was Top Bros’ billing. They prefer to work on a retainer basis, but I would have liked to work on a net 30 basis. However, I understood why they worked that way, and they even were flexible with us for some time in that regard. Still, it wasn’t an issue because their prices were affordable, and we were very happy all around.

Be organized and ensure you come to them with clear ideas.

What challenge were you trying to address with Top Bros?

We needed a company to put our platform together for us when we launched as a startup.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They started out by breaking down the features that we wanted to include in the first, second, and third phases. The deliverable for the first phase was the platform MVP. After establishing all that, they created wireframes. We went through multiple draft designs and then moved into development. Since delivering the MVP, they’ve made enhancements and fixed bugs as they’ve arisen.

The platform itself is both a CRM and a project management system hosted on AWS. It allows people to create projects, tasks, and proposals, as well as store their data within different projects and leverage reporting features. The system also contains marketing capabilities.

What is the team composition?

I’ve mainly worked with one person, a senior project manager. I’ve dealt with others at certain times, however, when working through technical questions, but that doesn’t happen too often.

How did you come to work with Top Bros?

I looked at a few different websites and found them on either Google or a freelancer site.

How much have you invested with them?

We’ve spent over $120,000 with them so far.

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since February 2018.

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement? 

We’re very happy with how the platform looks and the quality of all Top Bro’s work. If they tell me that something will be fixed by a certain day, it will be fixed by then. They’ve been very timely, as far as I’m concerned. This was one of my big requirements at the start: we needed consistent support. I needed a team I could rely on and that was dependable and reliable.  

As time goes along, bugs pop up, but they’ve become less and less frequent as the platform has been up. We send along a screenshot with every bug-fix request, which we actually submit using our product. Using the platform internally ourselves has been a great way to test it. Most bugs are fixed within one day, at most.

How did Top Bros perform from a project management standpoint?

We’re using the product that Top Bros developed to communicate as it’s a project management solution.

What did you find most impressive about them?

I’ve dealt with a million companies in the past, and Top Bros stands out because of their cost. They’ve been willing to work with us on the budget since day one, agreeing to include features little by little as the money for them comes to us. They’re focused on building long-term engagements.

Are there any areas they could improve?

There have been some bugs, but that’s only to be expected. I can’t complain, as Top Bros is always consistent. This is my number one need for any partner I work with. I feel like I can trust them.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

Communicating with them via email seems to work well. Additionally, go with the flow and let them tell you what they need. Be open to what they suggest in terms of the feasibility of features.

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

We found Top Bros on Google. After speaking to 3 other local companies, we decided to move forward with Top Bros. We were really impressed with the portfolio they shared. Felt very comfortable with Mike through the sale process which was low pressure, but informative.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

At the kickoff we formulated the website pages. Then they formulated the wireframes. We then received design mockups which came out great, and then they developed those pages. There were other little things in between, but that was the overall process from what I can remember.

Worked with 2 members from the team. I believe one was the project manager and the other was the developer I think.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

My main takeaway from this experience was seeing how fast and responsive they were, not like you average web designer that you don't hear from at times. We were also happy the design mockups they created and felt they listened and executed what we were looking for.

How effective was the workflow between your team and theirs?

Amazing! Got daily responses when asking questions. They kept me in the loop with updates. Smooth sailing.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

As mentioned above, their responsive and turn-around time was most impressive, then the quality of their design and work was also impressive.

Are there any areas for improvement or something they could have done differently?

None that I can see. My website was pretty straight forward. Extremely happy all around.

Top Bros developed our website using WordPress. They presented a few options to me, got our approval, and launched the site. They built a contact form into the site as one of its features. They currently provide SEO support for us and help optimize our site.

Mike (COO, Top Bros) helped with the website and one other person works on the marketing efforts. There are others supporting the project but those are my two points of contact.

I found them on Google and they were local to us. I talked to a couple of other companies, but I really liked what they had to say. They had good reviews and seemed to be the best fit out of all the options.

We’ve spent less than $10,000 on their services. 

What is the status of this engagement?

We’ve been working together since June 2019 and our engagement is ongoing. In July, we moved onto the marketing efforts after completing the website.

We’ve seen more inquiries since starting the project. Our business has received more calls per month and gained one new client so far. We now show up more visibly on Google, so we definitely feel that we’re headed in the right direction. We’re happy with Top Bros’ work, so far.

The way they manage the project satisfies us; we’re extremely happy with it. They communicate really well. 

What did you find most impressive about them?

We were impressed with their presentation from the start. Their team is detailed about the actual process, whereas other companies can be more generic. They had a unique way of selling their services and I felt like they spoke my language from the start so everything made sense to me.

Are there any areas they could improve?

Off the top of my head, I can’t think of anything they could have done better.

We're very happy with the website changes they made along with the gradual increase in online performance we're seeing. Thanks to their efforts, we're starting to receive more leads and see a ROI. Their work has been instrumental in building our reputation online.

They've been amazing thus far. We never have to chase them down for answers; they're very responsive and accessible via email and phone. They provide monthly reports of our performance and we continue to see ongoing growth from their efforts.

The level of comfort in communications we have with their team sets them apart. Although I haven't worked with other vendors, I'm very happy with their services and intend to work with them for the long term.

I can't think of anything they could improve. Even though results don't occur overnight, I think they're doing everything they can to improve our online performance.

Much Props needed a website redesign. We wanted a fresh look to promote the company's services and ability to display properties available with a booking feature. Was looking for ways to convert a visitor into a prospect client.

SOLUTION

How did you select this vendor and what were the deciding factors?

Found Top Bros on a local search. We had multiple meetings with the owner and project manager before deciding to move forward with them. They answered all my questions and were patient throughout the process. It was between Top Bros and one other company that made it to final cut and decided on them due to overall value and comfort levels.

Describe the project in detail and walk through the stages of the project.

First phase included Brand Identity Strategy. Top Bros then wireframed our website, did some revisions on those, and the received mockups which also had revision stages. Based on the mockups, we generated content which they inserted to the website. Had some final last tweaks, tested out the booking feature and rest of the website and then launched it.

The Project Manager lead the way through the entire process with the help of a couple other team members when collaboration or something tech was needed.

Can you share any outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We're really happy with the new website which looks stunning, clean, crisp, and modern. The project was also completed on time.

The workflow included emails and zoom conferences. Always on time to each meeting. Very effective.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

Really enjoyed working with Top Bros. They showed the best customer service we experienced in a while. Went above and beyond to make sure we were happy.

Not really. Top Bros is our go to company for web design.
