I’m the CEO of Onions52. We grow, pack, and ship fresh onions.

What challenge were you trying to address with ThoughtLab?

We changed our name and needed to do a company-wide rebrand.

SOLUTION

What was the scope of their involvement?

They’re taking care of the design, logo, market announcements, advertising, packaging, and website (i.e., everything involved with marketing). We’ve given them full responsibility for these tasks in return for a turnkey product. They’ve also helped us a lot with writing.

What is the team composition?

There are about 10 people working on this project, including writers and website, graphic, and artwork designers.

How did you come to work with ThoughtLab?

We interviewed a number of marketing companies and felt that ThoughtLab was the most innovative. We didn’t want a status-quo project. They came in and presented themselves very well. We were hoping that they would apply divergent thinking to the project, and they have.

How much have you invested in them?

We’ve invested $175,000 to $250,000.

What is the status of this engagement?

We began working with them on this project in 2017, and the relationship is ongoing. We have a number of phases which are about 75% completed.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?

We’ve had a 100% approval rating in the produce industry. Our company rebrand has been met with excitement. People are remembering our name, which is pretty amazing. Even now, six months later, I still meet people who remember our name because of what ThoughtLab has done.  

How did ThoughtLab perform from a project management standpoint?

They use a timeline manager which we work off of. We have the details of the project lined out and identified with target dates set. They have been accessible, responsible, and timely in completing tasks.

What did you find most impressive about them?

We are 100% satisfied with what they’ve done for us. If I had to name one area as most impressive, it would probably discredit another area that doesn’t deserve it.

Are there any areas they could improve?

I don’t have any suggestions.

Do you have any advice for potential customers?

I suggest potential clients define their project clearly because it ended up being helpful for us. They take their work seriously, and they will walk their clients through the process of what they need to do.

We are a small team of scientists and software engineers that utilize the latest research and technology to solve the most imminent challenges to ocean health, both locally and globally.

Describe the scope of work in detail. Please include a summary of key deliverables.

ThoughtLab was hired to produce a visually-appealing web landing page to contextualize the ongoing negotiations for the global plastics treaty while also visualizing key results and data insights from a novel model and predictive tool for various policy scenarios produced by our team. The deliverables were the landing page and the associated graphic assets visualizing piles of plastic waste on top of Manhattan. 

Remaining deliverables include a few accessibility requirements and implementing a "share your result" outreach feature.

RESULTS & FEEDBACK

What were the measurable outcomes from the project that demonstrate progress or success?

We have since shared the landing page and associated visualizations and results with global journalists as well as many key negotiators representing various countries negotiating at the UN complex in Nairobi. This page has helped us to communicate some of the key insights from our tool to a wider and less-expert audience, while also prefacing the more detailed tool produced by our team.

Describe their project management. Did they deliver items on time? How did they respond to your needs?

ThoughtLab excelled in project management and was able to meet our very rushed timelines, which were dependent on the upcoming UN negotiations. Tanya did a wonderful job of coordinating communication between our teams and ensuring the ThoughtLab team was aligned on our goals, vision, and timelines for the project. They responded positively to feedback, and gave us a structure for the best way to provide feedback in an effective manner.

What did you find most impressive or unique about this company?

The quality of their work was outstanding, especially given the short timeframe of the project. The timeline was unfortunately tough, but while most firms would have had to sacrifice quality and features to meet these deadlines, ThoughtLab was able to deliver. We are thoroughly impressed with their capability and commitment to the client.

Are there any areas for improvement or something ThoughtLab could have done differently?

None! It was a pleasure to work with you all.
