Technocopacetic was contracted to build a comparison engine for hotel, flight, and restaurant bookings. Progress then stalled and resources had to be replaced several times. The solution wasn’t delivered. This review was originally 4-stars overall for the initial delivery, but updated by the client Jan. 4, 2019.
Technocopacetic successfully began work on a challenging project. Later on, however, the engagement was terminated because of high resource turnover and lackluster responsiveness. Delivery delays have had financial and competitive repercussions. Legal action is currently underway.
A Clutch analyst personally interviewed this client over the phone. Below is an edited transcript.
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of Intevest Technologies, a startup software company.
OPPORTUNITY / CHALLENGE
What challenge were you trying to address with Technocopacetic?
They have given us multiple solutions, from Android apps to the website to the iOS app. We needed software services for our company.
SOLUTION
What was the scope of their involvement?
We had a great idea that we wanted to be implemented on the website, and Technocopacetic developed the project for our company. The concept was unique. Our website compares hotels, flights, and restaurants. They gave us a good comparison engine and helped us get the data we wanted. They also worked on the design. Technocopacetic created everything on Intevest's site, including offers and hotel sorting functionalities.
We also gave them a project to develop the Intevest Technologies platform. We wanted core PHP coding on the site without the use of templates. It had to have a new design, not something copied from somewhere else.
We will be making a partnership with a local bank. After the partnership is established, I will integrate the fintech solution in my app and website. After the bank sends us their API credentials, I will give those to Technocopacetic. After they integrate it, I will launch my product. I am waiting on the bank to launch the product.
After the development, we decided to give them the maintenance part as well. We’ve also decided to use them for SMO (social media optimization) and digital marketing.
What is the team composition?
They have 6–7 members working with us. I generally interfaced with the founders of their company, but they are busy with other clients as well so they’ve assigned four core members for support.
How did you come to work with Technocopacetic?
I found them on a freelancing website. I traveled to Jaipur to meet them personally.
How much have you invested with them?
I have invested close to $20,000. They are good at their business, and I don’t have to pay them much. They offer a good price relative to the market for the services they provide.
What is the status of this engagement?
I first contacted them in May 2017. We have been working together for one year. They continue to be supportive. Technocopacetic is a good company, so I want to continue working with them.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
What evidence can you share that demonstrates the impact of the engagement?
Although the concept was difficult, they developed the comparison engine with great ease and it has been working well so far. They’ve delivered whatever designs we needed for our clients and we never expected such great design work. For our platform, they were able to give us the unique design we were looking for. They have also been willing to make modifications to that design.
I am happy because I don’t have to keep so many employees. I only have to keep three employees. Had I given the project to any other company, I would have had to keep 20 employees. Instead of keeping employees, I give Technocopacetic projects to develop and maintain.
I have worked with other companies, but they were not so supportive. It was a good experience working with Technocopacetic.
How did Technocopacetic perform from a project management standpoint?
They gave us a six-month timeline and completed the project way before that. They have a good team and they’ve all been supportive. I’ve called them late in the evening, and they were able to help me. We’ve had good communication.
I faced an issue with payment so I asked them to correct it. They promised to deliver it by the next day, and they did. They are great at their jobs.
What did you find most impressive about them?
The project and the client are important to Technocopacetic. They are interested in long-term collaborations more than they are in the money. They always satisfy their customers. They ask us proactively about changes to the design or the development. I have been in contact with other companies that told me that they were unwilling to work on requirements not included in the original documentation; Technocopacetic is not like that. They want to have a good relationship with their customers. Also, other companies I contacted for the project were asking for a lot more money.
Are there any areas they could improve?
They sometimes have too many clients, resulting in slower response times. Even when I didn’t get an instant reply from them, they definitely got back to me and resolved my issue.
Do you have any advice for future clients of theirs?
Clients need to pay them on time. They will definitely deliver on time if they are paid on time.
UPDATED REVIEW
BACKGROUND
Introduce your business and what you do there.
I’m the founder of Intevest Technologies, a startup software company. While Technocopacetic Solutions was developing my product, they guided me to Clutch to leave a review. At the time, they were doing good work. Since, however, they haven’t completed my project and I’ve incurred a significant financial loss. At this point, I’m pursuing recourse through the legal system.
SOLUTION
What was the reasoning for the extension?
After a positive start, they stopped taking my calls. I contacted them continuously for a month, but they told me one of their employees wasn’t working there anymore. They then told me they got a new employee, but that resource only worked there for one month before leaving. As a result, no one worked on my project for two months. It also came to my attention that they were unable to pay their employee’s salaries, causing their employees to leave the company. This continued for six months.
How much have you invested with them?
I’ve lost close to 30 lakh Indian rupees ($42,300 USD) in total. Besides the initial project cost, I provided them financial assistance so they could compensate their employees and finish developing my project. They were to pay me back after completing the project. Unfortunately, they stopped returning my calls, and I have not received a refund.
What is the status of this engagement?
I had no avenue for recourse except through the courts. I sent them a legal notice saying they had 15 days to return my money, but they haven’t responded. Currently, I’m paying one of their former employees myself to continue my project.
RESULTS & FEEDBACK
Describe the impact this engagement has had on your business.
When I signed on with them, they said the project would be ready in two months, so I planned my marketing budget around that timeline. Therefore, I wasted a significant sum on marketing a product that is still not ready over one year later. Additionally, a competitor beat me to market, so I no longer have that advantage.
Technocopacetic also affected my employees. We were gathering an immense amount of data regarding the services we were going to offer (flight, hotel, and restaurant bookings), which required a number of employees. I’ve had to let those employees go, which has affected their lives tremendously. Finally, this project—being my dream—has had a heavy emotional toll on me.
Is there anything that the vendor did well or that you would consider a strength?
They started off the project strong, which I appreciated, but after that, my opinion changed drastically.
In what specific areas can they improve?
They should better understand the value of their customer’s money, working day in and day out to deliver.
What advice do you have for clients with similar needs to yours?
Before paying, the customer should ask about estimated completion time and decide whether or not to give the project to the vendor on that basis. Then again, if the client’s requirements aren’t being met, there’s no use providing a timeline.
